I couldn't resist. I bought the Kindle version of the book that was written about a season with the Jets. Kind of the the Gang Green version of MIchael Holly's Pats book. I know. I know. I just couldn't resist finding out what makes a train wreck in the NFL. Lots of good stories, but one thing jumps off the page. We are gonna love Revis. Everything about him screams match made in heaven with Bill Belichick. He eats, breathes, and sleeps football. Knows he's the best and isn't satisfied with anything less than perfection on every single play in practice:

Even on a hot summer Tuesday, Revis abhorred the idea that any of the Jets receivers should catch a pass against him. They seldom did.

During one-on -one passing drills, which were refereed, a receiver pushed off Revis to create space, and he made a catch. When no flag was thrown, Revis exploded . He followed the official as the man tried to continue his adjudications, arguing, “He was pushing me! We can’t do that!,” then expanding his appeal to whoever would listen, protesting on statutory grounds, ethical grounds, and finally philosophical grounds: “They’re trying to make it an all-offensive game!” Giving up the discussion only when it was his turn to drill again, he lined up against Santonio Holmes. At the snap, Revis roared into Holmes, pushing him, beating him, administering such a marauding martial flurry that Holmes never left the line of scrimmage, three flags fell to the ground, and everyone, including Holmes and the official, burst into laughter. Everyone except Revis.

I believe that Revis will assume the leadership role on a very special defense and that Belichick will sign him to a long-term contract as the highest paid CB in the NFL. Brady trying to build a few hotels on Revis Island in training camp should be pretty damn fun to watch. Those two are arguably the two best "Belichick type" players in the NFL.

BTW, Kirwin and Miller spent a little time the other day after their Belichick interview thinking aloud about how the Pats secondary might work with Browner and Revis. Kirwin thinks that a typical play will have Revis on one side, playing slightly off the receiver in man coverage, but with license to jump short routes.

The rest of the secondary will rotate to the other side behind Browner jamming his receiver at the line. Can't throw to Browner's guy if he's stuck on the line of scrimmage. Revis playing slightly off his guy, baiting the QB to throw it his way. Better be a pretty good throw....

They also think there will be plays where both Revis and Browner jam their guys at the line.

:D Can't Wait to see this pair working together!!

I suspect that Belichick will start another new trend.

He was the first to emphasize the two gap 3-4; and he then used the 'good dime' aka Law;s Six, on the Rams; he came up with the 2 TE O; and the hurry up. All borrowed from football history and freshly applied. Be it the Okie 5-2, or the K-gun etc.

This time I think he springs the all CB secondary.

As much as I hated seeing him tie Moss up and the fact he wore a Jets jersey you had to give the guy props - any time you got to see him not playing against the Pats however, just focussing on Revis was a good watch, it's a master class in how to play the CB position. Can't wait to see him playing in a Patriots uniform!

Most of have seen this.. for those who havent, say you don't know them.. or recognize that face.. ;)

So true! Revis plays the game the way it is supposed to be played.

I was talking to my dad about this today. I just cant wait to see this guy in a Pats uni.
This defense is going to be amazing.
SB or bust.

I remember him dropping to like #14 in the '07 draft. I thought, man, would BB love this kid or what? He's chased him ever since. Ty Law was the best CB of his generation. Bill kept chasing him despite his aspirations to go elsewhere. He offered him contract after contract.

Revis is a Patriot now. If you think he's a 1 year rental your mistaken. Bill will chase him down no matter the cost. Great corners are once in a generation. He had one in Ty, and let him slip away. I don't think he'll make that mistake again.

Darrelle wants to get paid, he'll get paid. You're a Patriot now. Let's go win a SB. He came here to win. He's not here for the money. He's here for the glory.

One thing that I was also thinking about is that in practice it will help our young Wr's get better as they try to beat the best....Revis can also give our Wr's tips on some things that will help them be more successful...So he will help the Pats defensively but may also help offensively by being so good and making our receivers work hard to get open....

Revis might be too competitive to give tips. Tips or not, practicing against the best day in and day out makes players better.

Gonna be a fun season to watch the Pats D......Should be a top 10.....

What I keep thinking is what a players like dennard and ryan will get from watching this guy everyday. Dennard already plays with similar physicality, but lacking the polish. Ryan jumps routes very similarly, but he needs to more time to develop the outside skills.

And the person with the biggest smile? McCourty not having to carry the weight of this secondary for the 5th season in a row. Talib was great, but the secondary needed McCourty to be everything and everyone. Revis will let Mccourty play with less pressure, and I imagine finally get the league wide recognition he deserves. Better lock him up quick

I daresay top 5. Perhaps even top 2-3.
I changed my Sig when we signed we Revis.

I dont think it is crazy to have huge expectations for this D this year. Before injuries hit last year we were a top 5 D and sure it was a small sample size but with health and Revis and Browner there is no reason to think that this D wont be better.

I remember how happy and excited I was when I saw NE signed him. I forget he's on the team some days then remember and think "oh yeah, we have Revis" and get excited once again. I cannot wait to watch him actually playing in a Patriots uniform this coming season. And I just hope it can be worked out to a longer deal.

I have modest hopes. Just let us get back to the level of quality defense we had the 1st few years of this decade. That D always put the team in a position to make plays to win and conversely stopped opponents' comeback heroics.
