Dumb question...

What if Brady said...Coach, 2 more years and I'm done.
He has a lovely wife, kids, enough money, and he has taken one hell of a pounding lately.
(maybe Giselle said...2 more years and you're done)
When was the last time he said he was playing into his 40's?

Right before the start of last season, several weeks before the opener.

Your point is noted though, as we don't know one way or another. The good thing is that we have a coach who tries his best to plan ahead, and cover his ass as much as possible. They've done a nice job of addressing the future, so let's hope that continues.

Personally, I think it was more of a decision of addressing the backup situation since Mallett will be gone at the end of the year, and the new rookie will need a bit of time to learn our offensive scheme.

My opinion about the Garapolo choice is that the Pats have several opportunities to make the right choice for Brady's successor... they started this year with Garapolo who might have the skills and aptitude, but if he does not show up in TC or practices throughout the year.. they will draft another QB until they find the right one.

Have heard this several times this week, the Pats want to defy the trends of many of the "NFL dynasties" who were caught short after their star QB retired... they want to stay good, not start all over after Brady retires.

So be prepared, if Garapolo does not fit the bill.. probably will choose another qb next year, until they get it right... the Pats are looking for an Aaron Rodgers rather than a Jeff Garcia...

Check this out.. @ 1:30...

... Other than Edleman, he was throwing to guys stuck in molasses. Maybe I should've been out there. So he can make me look great.
Just to add emphasis, Edelman is a punt returner who was his best receiver.

Put noodle arm Peyton on our Patriot team and Brady on last year's stacked Denver offense.
With nobody open Peyton would of been wilting and quitting and pouting his way to a -7-9 season with us, and Tom would of won his 4th ring with Denver's O making Seattle's "almighty D" look foolish.

Don't doubt me.

Like 35 of Peyton's 55 TD's were five to ten yard dump offs that someone else not named Peyton took sixty yards to the house. Give him a trash O-line, a smurfs, two injured rookies and Blount, and see how far Peyton gets anyone.
You forgot the worst part. Edelman would be concussed.
Small sample, but Collie catching from Peyton ends up eating Gerbers because chewing is too loud. With Brady he's OK. Welker's first year with Peyton he gets a concussion.
Admittedly a small sample, but if I was a small slot receiver, I'd stay away from Peyton.

Tom Brady will "accept backup status" the day I'm coronated as the King of England.

What choice would Brady have if he's under contract?

At the time that Brady signed that last contract the argument was that it was a phony number and would be renegotiated later. The article is just a rehash of that same stance.

I think it would be great if Brady played for the low number that his contract will offer him. The talk at the time was that it was Brady's idea to take a team friendly deal and he willingly signed it.

There will be 1000 occurances between now and 2016 that will have more impact on the assessment in 2016 than all of the combined knowledge and speculation today.

And we'll discuss each and every one of those inside and out.

I believe the pats like garappolo, but don't be surprised if they draft another QB next year...they are going to keep looking until they find a star to replace Brady.

I think you may be misunderstanding the meaning of "accept" here. I believe the intended definition is that Brady would come to recognize that the decision for him to be a backup QB is a valid or correct decision. I reiterate, without the slightest doubt, that there's no way that's happening.

I don't like the pick. But, after hearing Belichick's comment that he'd rather get a qb too soon instead of too late. There haven't been a lot of teams that have won the Super Bowl with a back-up qb. He's been a part of two of them; Brady and Jeff Hostettler in 1990. I'm sure he thinks he can win with a good qb.

The other qb's to do it were; Warner, Dilfer, Plunkett(80), Staubach(71). Didn't start Gm1. But, started the Super Bowl.

Brady of 2004 could not beat out Brady of 2013. I'm looking forward to a talented, serviceable backup in Garoppolo for many seasons, saving the club millions in cap space and providing superb insurance.

My question was what choice does Brady have? Is he going to simply walk away from the team because he's not the starter or not getting a reworked deal?

I agree that most players have a hard time accepting that they're team doesn't want them anymore, but it really isn't up to them. That's why Montana wore a Chiefs uniform.

I can only conclude that you responded to my post without reading it. "Accept" in the original context implies agreement. Being forced to "accept" the decision is not what was originally intended. I don't know how to explain the difference to you any more clearly than that.

Bottom line if Brady has good playmakers such as level of eagles wr's he is the best qb in the NFL hands down. What other qb in the NFL could function with the wonder twins edelman/amendola as the #1 wr. This is rediculous. Is bills ego scared Brady gets more credit than him. He is actually making Brady look good carrying that offense and himself look in competent for continuous failure to find a playmaking wr even when they r under his nose. NOBODY wanted either of them on the open market. They r neither fast or physical. They can b pressed or shadowed. Their catches r schemed.Everybody knows slots work best when playmakers deep and intermediate range give them space. There r no proven playmakers on this team. Just everybody hoping Dobson or lafell who r nothing that special to write home about can step up. At this point its nothing more than lottery ticket hope. When u have a marquise Lee talent, hope upgrades to expectations. Marquise Lee is a more explosive Brandon Lloyd. By end of season not getting Lee or marty Bryant will prove to be critical mistakes. Remember dissapointment last January n January when all u could think of is wait til we get a playmaking wr for next yr. Well they r going for the hat trick. Some won't acknowledge it til buffalo or the jets sweep us and take the division.
