Taking a look at Asa Watson he is very similar physically to Hernandez –

Aaron Hernandez

Just talking about his skill, he's the best TE in this draft. I'd take him any day over Ebron, but I don't know if teams want the headache...

I'd be one happy dude if we sign him. If his heads right, that's a huge steal!
Can I ask what brings you to that conclusion? Lyerla physically appears to be very talented but he had just 34 receptions in his college career.

There have been plenty of athletic prospects who did not produce.
The NFL has far greater mental demands than college. It demands a lot of commitment and conformity. Many people who are athletically gifted struggle with this.

I am a big Jeremy Deering fan; I actually thought we were going to draft him so getting him as an UDFA is huge. I have no doubt he will make the roster and he has a high ceiling.

-Height: 6011
-Weight: 209
-40 Yrd Dash: 4.40
-20 Yrd Dash: 2.63
-10 Yrd Dash: 1.56
-225 Lb. Bench Reps: 18
-Vertical Jump: 33 1/2
-Broad Jump: 10'06"
-20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.32
-3-Cone Drill: 6.99

He started out as a RB so he is new to the safety position but he has the talent to be a starting safety if he can learn the position.

Why do the Patriots sign a player like Gordon with only 2 starts in 12 games?

I have no clue. I remember seeing him in person getting absolutely trucked by Le'Veon Bell in college. Gordon is pretty bad, he was one of those guys the offenses picked out to abuse.

Yep, some of those guys are head-scratcher-oos.

About the same height and weight. Hernandez was very productive in college. This guy, not so much. This guy also has a heart problem of some kind. Only caught 3 passes last year. Taking a flier on a guy is one thing, but this is a head-scrather for me.

They gave a $15,000 signing bonus to this bum.

Asa Watson has Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome.
Here is what Watson had to say in an article done by USAToday:

"I never had a problem with it in a game. I've been able to manage it. It hasn't really been a concern as of late. The doctor explained it as a nuisance rhythm. It'll be there and it'll nag you, maybe for the rest of your life, but it's not going to kill you. It just feels like an adrenaline rush that doesn't stop for 10 or 15 minutes."

Here is a description of Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome:
"Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome (WPW) is one of several disorders of the conduction system of the heart that are commonly referred to as pre-excitation syndromes. WPW is caused by the presence of an abnormal accessory electrical conduction pathway between the atria and the ventricles. Electrical signals travelling down this abnormal pathway (known as the bundle of Kent) may stimulate the ventricles to contract prematurely, resulting in a unique type of supraventricular tachycardia referred to as an atrioventricular reciprocating tachycardia "

I'm pretty sure the Pats wouldn't have signed him if they felt the heart issue continued to be a big deal. I will say that I'm not sure why he only played 3 games in 2013 unless it had to do with the torn hamstring he suffered in the Spring of 2013.

Watson is a real mysetery, physically he's very impressive but he barely did anything in college. Regardless, I hope we bring Joe Don Duncan in to compete with Watson, the other UDFA TE and HooMan and let them battle it out.

B6, theirs plenty of film on him in YouTube. Go take a look for yourself. Then compare his combine measurable to the other TE's that got drafted. That's with months not playing football. Kids a beast.

Signing these 9 UDFAs took up $15,664 in cap space.

I dont know if this is 100% true but I heard that Yavin Smallwood had a deal to sign with the Pats if he was not drafted. I would have loved them to grab him, but alas.

Oregon is a spread running team, which partially explains Lyerla's lack of numbers. He wasn't on the field that much. ****son, in Baltimore now, had a similar issue once they went to the spread. He looked excellent in the previous offense but nearly disappeared once they went with the spread running attack. Colt has more raw talent, but ****son might be a better football player. It's just tough to tell in this offense.

Nu'keese Richardson WR invited to minicamp

Talented 5'10" WR who was kicked out of Tennessee in his rookie year, 2009, for taking part in an armed robbery. Spent a year at Coffey Community College and was then out of football until last year where he caught 39 pass for 588 yards at University of Pikeville. Seems to be an odd one. Maybe there's hope for Lyerla yet....

Ok, this is just proof of my theory that 40 years ago, someone started a contest for the most bizzare first names wins the prize. Nu'Keese ? Really ?

Ever since the Ras-I Dowling debacle I'm down on signing wacko first names.

Mel Kiper chimes in with his take on which UDFA's are most intriguing to him. He goes by each team and here is what he has to say about the Pats:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10936050/intriguing-undrafted-free-agents-nfl

Interesting comp he throws out there is Roy Finch and Darren Sproles.

New England Patriots

James Morris, LB

Justin Jones, TE

Roy Finch, RB

Tyler Ott, LS

Morris can make this team as depth at linebacker. He started 42 games for Kirk Ferentz and will keep up mentally. Jones is a worthy project, a monster tight end at 6-8 -- and he can run. I profiled him over a year ago, but he was sidelined with grade issues in 2013. Finch could create some preseason highlights. The Darren Sproles comps are inevitable. I had to throw in Ott because he was my No. 2 long-snapper and has the local connection, having played at Harvard.

It's important to keep in mind that we actually have no idea if some of these UDFAs are actually part of the team, like Morris, Ott, and Deering. The team has said absolutely nothing about them, no signing announcements or interviews. Maybe it's just a procedural thing, but I wouldn't assume they're on the team just yet until the signings actually happen.

Even if the numbers are identical it doesn't add up to Hernandez. He had a special gift for creating and/or finding open spaces. Not so much now.
