Hey fellas,

Obviously as you can tell by my screen name (and this post) I am a big Geogia Tech fan...been following GT for awhile now and have covered Tech for Rivals.com and the 247sports network.

I've had the chance to watch Jemea Thomas the last few years and it has been a pleasure. Jemea is simply everything you want in a football player...he is tough, physical and gives it his all on every play.

Jemea originally came to Tech as a RB which speaks as to how great of a athlete he is. He has played every position in our secondary and played them well...Whatever what was our biggest need that game is where he would play...for example Eric Ebron (1st round selection by Lions) was dominating GT in the first half, so start the second half we switch Thomas to playing him 1 on 1 and Thomas shut Ebron down.

Another one of my favorite performances this year was his game against UVA...15 tackles with 11 solo.

In his first career start back in 2011 vs top 5 Clemson...he went against DeAndre Hopkins and Sammy Watkins...he had 5 tackles, broke up 2 passes, 1 TFL, 1 FF and 2 INT's (both in the fourth quarter).

He's also a great special teamer and he will make a impact right away I'm sure...to add on to that his teammates love him and he's a good guy.

Sorry for the ramblings but you guys are going to be very happy with the pick of Jemea Thomas.

Thank you for the input! When I first saw the pick I kind of brushed it off (as I do most 6th rounders), figured it was a late round flyer on another short corner. Then I looked at his 2013 stats: 88 tackles, 2 sacks, 3 ints. That looks to me more like a guy who play a lot of roles, and it's good to hear some anecdotal evidence to back up the numbers.

My hope is he makes it on special teams. That will buy him a few years to develop if he's good enough to be something more.

I think he's a little short but in a highlights video he won a battle against Kelvin benjamin and you're saying he did shut down Ebron, he must be a freaking physical.

Good addition.

I was told on here that he can't cover at all and he makes Arrington look like Revis. But yet from what I've seen and read he's gone against the likes of Watkins, Hopkins, Benjamin, Ebron, etc.and has played pretty decent

The game against FSU (when he's wearing #40) he played with a separated shoulder. If you have seen his amazing one handed interception in the game you will notice his right arm is basically just hanging there.

Thomas can play press, man or off. Can be the 8th man in the box or fill the alley in run support...Can play field or boundary CB, FS, SS, Nickel DB...Even returned kicks and punts some.

Thomas really did it all for us.

He reminds me of someone that slid last year that looks great now: Tyrann Mathieu. Undersized but all heart.

Not what I said at all. I said coverage wasn't his strength and he translates better as an in-the-box safety in the NFL. You were the one implying that I stated he couldn't cover "at all". But you can feel free to look up the scouting reports that say the same thing as I did about projecting where he would line up as a pro. I do appreciate you attempting to twist my words even after I corrected you in the thread, though. Keep up the good work, bud.

Thomas seems like an intruiging prospect. Faced some quality opposition in SEC and held his own. I wouldn't be all that surprised if he quickly established himself as a core player on special teams and perhaps seeing some snaps in the back seven late in the year.

Sounds good, what would be the reason he wasn't drafted higher then?

After Easley, Thomas is the drafted guy who most intrigues me. There is a spot at safety that is open and available for him to seize. Can't wait to see how he does.

Most of us have Thomas making the roster. I suspect that this is our hearts talking. Thomas seems like a perfect candidate for the Practice Squad.

CB: Revis, Dennard, Arrington, Browner (Green for 4 weeks)
S : McCourty, Harmon, Ryan
ST: Ebner
S/ST: Chung and/or Tavon Wilson

IMHO, Thomas is not likely to be a better special teamer than Wilson and Chung.

Size is the knock...but beyond that I have no idea.

He really is similar to Joyner.

Thomas loves the game and as someone else mentioned his heart is what you can't measure.. he loves being physical and has some good hits you can find on YouTube... he thrives off of competition. The bigger the opponent the bigger he plays.

I'm also not just saying this because I'm a GT fan...Jeremiah Attaochu was a excellent college player but I'm not that high on his pro potential.

He actually beats Joyner from a measurables standpoint.

As you can see, Thomas is bigger, has about the same straight ahead speed, is stronger, same explosion (VJ & BJ) and significantly quicker (Shuttle, 3 cone).

So . . . I don't know why one was a 2nd round pick and the other a throwaway 6th rounder. Seems like there's a lot to like though.

Joyner :

Height: 5080
Weight: 184
40 Yrd Dash: 4.47
20 Yrd Dash: 2.59
10 Yrd Dash: 1.59
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 14
Vertical Jump: 37 1/2
Broad Jump: 10'04"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.40
3-Cone Drill: 7.26

Thomas :

Height: 5092
Weight: 192
40 Yrd Dash: 4.52
20 Yrd Dash: 2.57
10 Yrd Dash: 1.57
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 19
Vertical Jump: 37
Broad Jump: 10'05"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.25
3-Cone Drill: 7.03

Thomas played in the ACC. I didn't watch Georgia/Georgia Tech, so I'm not sure how he fared in that one.

Thank you for the encouragement. Thomas is walking into a superb secondary with maybe one open spot at safety. The Pats are loaded at cornerback - best group top-to-bottom that I can remember. Safety is another matter. If Thomas can make the team, that's where he'll be needed most. When I read up on him, it seemed like he's a practice squad guy who could get some time if anyone gets hurt. If he has some patience. he can learn from the very best (Revis.) If he's reading anything you're writing, give him the heads up to work hard and be patient.
