Does this just make too much sense? (Andre Johnson wants out of Houston)

i would love it if they could make it work, as he still has some left in the tank....and i think he could be a good fit.....big, strong, still fast enough, can muscle db's....but they would definitely want more than just mallett....and im not familiar enough with the cap implications to know if it is plausible....but, man, he would be a great weapon for brady for the next couple of years or so

Reportedly Andre Johnson hungry for a Superbowl has publically reported his dismay and is planning to skip otas and all team activities.
Mallett for Johnson really this makes to much sense not to happen doesn't it?

Is there a way for me to add the picture of Godzilla face/palming from my hard drive or from face book?

Let me explain why the people who think this has no chance of happening is poorly misguided.
First let's talk about what Johnson's unhappy ramifications do to a first time NFL head coach like OBrein if the longest tenured player doesn't buy into the teams direction and is being a distraction and making the young guys doubt.
You move that player Belichick did it with Moss, Glenn, Milloy, Thomas.
Who was OBrein taught from again oh yeah thats right BB.
Johnson specifically said the word superbowl In what he's looking for.
That says he has limited himself to 3 maybe 4 teams. The Patriots don't want to throw new undeveloped talent at the existing receiving corps. However Belichick loves veterans am I going to fast for you?
The Texans want Ryan Mallett the Patriots still could use a proven receiver.
Mallett COULD be a franchise qb how much is that worth?
Johnson is at the end of a illustrious career a man who has never made a peep about dissatisfaction is clearly in his mind done with Houston for the fact he chose to publically display his frustration.
Johnson would come here rejuvinate his career with Brady and elevate Bradys play In the process teach Boyce and Dobson maybe Thompkins. Go out on top with a ring. Finishing his claim to the hall of fame he knows his chances more than double to the hall with a big season and a Superbowl ring.
Who has a better chance of taking you there Ryan Fitzpatrick? Tom Savage well not Savage but Brady.
I really don't think a additional pick needs to be thrown in this kind of thing sells itself.

The Texans want Mallett?

They "want" him that badly they didn't trade for him at any point in the draft, or since the start of free agency. In fact, they drafted a QB instead.

BOB has already had a good look at Mallett if he felt he could be a starting QB he would have gave the pats a 5th round pick for him not a hall of fame WR and Johnsons CAP hit is over 12 million this year once he finds out that teams that do have a shot at a SB will not pay him more then 7 or 8 million he will shut his mouth and play for BOB with a smile on his face

#3- Don't think Houston would trade him to someone in the conference
This was my first thought. Houston wants ultimately to beat New England, not make the Patriots stronger.

We will see I'm rooting for Johnson here Aside from Mallett and maybe Admendola I wouldnt trade any other young talent.
They are Texas Boys he would just be sending them home.

Current cap hits
Amendola: $4.6M
Johnson: $12.1M

Post-trade cap hits
Johnson's salary and roster bonus + Amendola's dead money: $7.5M+$4.8M=$12.3M
Amendola's salary and roster bonuses + Johnson's dead money: $3.4M+$12M=$15.4M

So that'd be asking the Pats to take on an additional $7.7M (which is almost exactly how much cap room they have right now), and the Texans to take an additional $3.3M. (Cap numbers are rounded and from Spotrac. Apparently people can't decide if Johnson's salary is $10M or $6.5M. This assumes $6.5M.) Mallett is pretty negligible given that he'd need to be replaced with another player.

Exactly.. the dead money is the real problem, not the trade itself.

Houston would have to basically eat $12m, IIRC. Or they could wait until after June 1 and split that dead $ between '14 and '15.

Would someone mind explaining to me how the Patriots are going to fit Andre Johnson's 12 million dollar cap hit into the remaining 7.8 million dollars of remaining cap space whilst signing its 2014 draft class and adding whatever remaining Free Agents the team decides to sign?

The economics don't add up without circumnavigating the cap or moving piece the Texans probably don't want or need.

I'd sit tight and monitor the situation. If Johnson keeps running his mouth, BOB may have to cut him.

If Andre Johnson came here that would be unbelievable. I know the game is said to be won in the trenches, but we haven't had a good outside threat in some time. Andre would not only be serviceable but instead the upper echelon of the league. Let's hope he gets cut, because the Pats would certainly be on his short list of suitors.

Let's just hope he doesn't take a significant cut to ride the Denver's 'all in' train.

This was my first thought. Houston wants ultimately to beat New England, not make the Patriots stronger.

Although this may be a valid point, there are several reasons it might not come into their reasoning:

1.) The Pats and Texans do not meet in the regular season. The only way making the Pats stronger is a negative to them at least this year is if both teams make the playoffs. I am not betting on the Texans making the playoffs this upcoming season.

2.) Andre Johnson is likely an one year rental if the Pats get him. He has a $10.5 million and about $1.6 million in bonuses due to him next season. So the Pats will need him to redo his deal if he is to stay on in 2015.

I am not holding my breathe for a trade like this, but I am not dismissing it either. It is unlikely it would happen, but I think it is far from impossible.

Makes perfect sense. May have to throw in a later round draft pick.

He won't have to cut him. Someone will trade for him. He got 1400 yards last year with no QB. Someone will throw a third or fourth at least to the Texans just to avoid trying to have to fight to sign him in free agency.

The economics don't add up without circumnavigating the cap or moving piece the Texans probably don't want or need.

Because the Pats wouldn't inherit a $12 million cap hit. Johnson has a $6.5 million base salary this year. That is what they inherit if they trade for him, not his dead money. They can easily convert part of that base into a bonus to spread it into the final two years of his deal.

They can easily fit him under the cap this year. It his base salary the last two years of his deal which would make it questionable that if the Pats traded for him that he wouldn't be an one year rental.

i would make a run at johnson..but mallett for him? haha
