Does this just make too much sense? (Andre Johnson wants out of Houston)

Mallett for Johnson really this makes to much sense not to happen doesn't it?

If the 49ers got Boldin for a 6th rounder and Stevie Johnson for a 4th, I'd like to think we could trade Mallett + a 3rd for Johnson.

(No idea how the 49ers got those guys for so cheap. Especially Boldin)

A Mallett for Johnson trade is never going to happen, but a Mallett and other compensation for Johnson could. Mallett isn't enough to get Johnson on his own although Johnson may not be long for Houston after this season anyway considering his cap number jumps to over $16 million with a $10.5 million base and a $1 million roster bonus.

It isn't as crazy as it sounds. Johnson is likely in his last year in Houston unless he takes a a significant pay cut. So the Texans may be willing to move him and get some value for him. That said, the Pats would likely have to throw in at least another mid-round pick to get a deal done.

The Texans know the odds are good that Johnson will not be on the team in 2015 and may be willing to get what they can for him this offseason.

Boldin went from one Harbaugh to another Harbaugh, so that might have had something to do with it.

They couldn't keep Boldin, so they were probably just happy to trade him away to a NFC team.

Pie in the sky. As always. :)

That said, he's right: Houston is really not the place for a 33yo star receiver, certainly not with Case Keenum or Tom Savage throwing the ball. That said, he certainly seems to have plenty left in the tank. I watched him post 8/121 on us last December in person.

Wonder if Mallett + DA (and maybe a low-round pick) would do the trick? This would be fun:

WR1: Johnson
WR2: Dobson/Thompkins/LaFell (maybe Boyce, but idk)
WR3: Edelman
TE: Gronk
RB: Ridley/Vereen

Well Buffalo wanted to get Johnson out of town badly. If the Pats were the only team that made an offer for Johnson, Bills would have made the deal.

As for Boldin, Ravens didn't want to pay and Harbaugh gave his brother a steal and kept Boldin out of the conference.

The new question these days is:

Can he play that "move" tight end we are missing so badly?

Whenever I read comments that want to package Amendola to The Texans I wonder if the people are aware of how the financel aspects of trades work.

This is not Madden, you cant just package players together and simply swap. It all has financial consequences.

That all being said, it is nice to dream..

Apologies for the duplicate!

Current cap hits
Amendola: $4.6M
Johnson: $12.1M

Post-trade cap hits
Johnson's salary and roster bonus + Amendola's dead money: $7.5M+$4.8M=$12.3M
Amendola's salary and roster bonuses + Johnson's dead money: $3.4M+$12M=$15.4M

So that'd be asking the Pats to take on an additional $7.7M (which is almost exactly how much cap room they have right now), and the Texans to take an additional $3.3M. (Cap numbers are rounded and from Spotrac. Apparently people can't decide if Johnson's salary is $10M or $6.5M. This assumes $6.5M.) Mallett is pretty negligible given that he'd need to be replaced with another player.

As noted above, Johnson's value is in the range of a one-year underpaid rental. A deal probably doesn't happen unless he renegotiates his contract first. He's probably worth a high pick on that basis; after all, Dillon got a #2 for the Bengals.

If such a deal were to happen -- then yeah, part of the compensation might be one of the Patriots' rookie receivers, and another part might be Mallett.

Contrary to apparent popular belief, this could have some wheels to it.
First off, I am a Patriots fan and Miami Hurricanes fans, so I know this guy like the back of my hand.

Andre Johnson is a leader; a quiet man who keeps to himself and leads by example. Despite many tough years: coaching changes, lack of of solid QBs, lack of secondary targets, etc., Johnson always remained calm and collected and never gave the media much to talk about.

However, last season you could see him visibly frustrated by the offensive play, specifically QB/coaching and overall regression from the successful year prior.

I truly believe that #80 WOULD indeed restructure his contract if a similar scenario arose. His body language last year was an illustration of a frustrated player without an answer.

With his salary, I doubt they'd be able to net much around the league, which to me, at least makes it a POSSIBLE outcome.

Exactly his age and his desire to get a ring means Mallett for Johnson straight up is completely possible and he would absolutely take a pay cut for the best chance of a championship in his career.
Brady would love having him aboard and he could teach the youngings.

I hope that last part was sarcasm. John harbaugh gift wrapped boldin to his brother.

andre johnson? yes please. great receiver, we'd finally have someone who could stretch the field consistently.

probably a pipe dream though

Having Aaron Dobson this season will be the first time Brady has had the same X-WR two seasons in a row since Randy Moss.

2010 – Brandon Tate
2011 – Chad Johnson
2012 – Brandon Lloyd
2013 – Aaron Dobson
2014 – Aaron Dobson

I am excited to see what he can do. I do not think we can afford Johnson and honestly I think that we need to stop having these 1 year players at the WR spot.
