Prior to the 2014 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots signed 66 players.

The New England Patriots selected 9 players in the 2014 NFL Draft.

The New England Patriots have signed 15 players in the UDFA market.

So of those 15 players signed, the Pats have officially confirmed nine:
- TE Tyler Beck, Bowling Green
- RB Roy Finch, Oklahoma
- S Shamiel Gary, Oklahoma State
- OLB Cameron Gordon, Michigan
- CB Travis Hawkins, Delaware
- RB Stephen Houston, Indiana
- TE Justin Jones, East Carolina
- LB Deontae Skinner, Mississippi State
- TE Asa Watson, North Carolina State

That leaves six, which I am guessing includes:
- S James Deering, Rutgers
- LB James Morris, Iowa
- LS Tyler Ott, Harvard
- WR Ja-Mes Logan, Ole Miss
- DT Seali'i Epenesa, UCLA
- DT Deylan Buntyn, North Carolina State

Which would in turn mean that the following are either just invites/tryouts, or bogus rumors:
- CB Malcolm Butler, West Alabama
- NT Calvin Tonga, Colorado State
- CB Jordan Love, Towson
- DL Micajah Reynolds, Michigan State

As well as Arizona NT Tevin Hood and St Francis WR Kyle Harbridge, who are also being reported as having invites to rookie mini-camp.

Does that sound correct?

Why do the Patriots sign a player like Gordon with only 2 starts in 12 games?

Deering and Morris are the top rated players on the above list so I hope they are among the
remaining signees. Ott is tied up with final exams.

I think Stephen Houston might have the best chance to make it. He's the Jamie Collins of the 2014 draftees/udfas, measurables wise. 6'0" 230, ran a 4.4 at his pro day. 40" vertical leap, 11' long jump, 24 bench presses. Just a beast, averaged 6.7 yards a carry last year and has pretty good hands catching the ball. He could be Blount's replacement as our big back ? IF he has a good camp, I can see him beating out Brandon Bolden. Though do we carry 5 backs ? Ridley, Vereen, Houston, White and Bolden ?

I see all over the Internet that Joe Don Duncan has signed with Patriots, but no confirmation!

I'm trying to get optimistic about the # of TEs we have signed in UDFA, however I can't stop having flashbacks of Zach Sudfeld last season. Hoping we find a diamond in the rough here. Joe Don Duncan was a binky of mine (but there isn't a report to confirm he has signed). Justin Jones is a giant and we've seen what a giant can do in the red zone (Fauria in DET), even if his overall skill is limited, perhaps worth the investment? (Don't know too much about him, anyone who wants to school me feel free)

I believe Skinner vs . Morris will be an interesting battle throughout the preseason. I believe on of them will ultimately make the squad behind Beauharnais (who may be up for some more defensive responsibility)

Deering is a interesting prospect.. freak athlete and from Rutgers. If he sticks, he could turn out to be a significant contributor. Has played wildcat qb, RB, WR, returns on ST and was asked to make the switch to safety last year and did so. Noted that he is a quick learner and studies film. Could turn out to be an Edelman like project that pays off in the future.

If Roy Finch can find a niche on this team, I'm all for it.

Tevin Hood looks like some stiff competition for Sigilia/Vellano.

Definitely will be a fun camp/preseason to follow based on these events!

Vikings strike again they signed Erik Lora who was Garoppolo's favorite target not that he'll turn into anything but he put up some pretty impressive numbers against lesser competition.

A lot of those guys were marginal college players. Kind of bizarre signings.

Yes every player who had minimal college production is Matt Cassel good point.

Duncan has to get medical clearance before he signs with a team. He expects to get the clearance this weekend. Same source as the original source.

So you're saying there is a chance he'll sign with the Pats ? That would make me really happy, he had a ton of catches this year. He'd be one TE who I think could make the Pats out of the TEs we signed.

This is a tweet confirming what Jimke wrote :

Dixie State TE Joe Don Duncan must clear few medical hurdles before signs w/ NFL team but expected to get doctors' clearance this weekend.

I'm assuming there's a good chance we get him as he was said to have signed with us before everything went quiet - presumably the medical clearance. But as we know, things can change quickly with UDFA.

Micajah Reynolds signed with the Saints..

Why do the Patriots sign a player like Gordon with only 2 starts in 12 games?
Gordon's best year was as a Red-shirt Sophmore when he played safety. His next years were spent as a part-time LB and special teams player because Ryan was that much better than him..

Just talking about his skill, he's the best TE in this draft. I'd take him any day over Ebron, but I don't know if teams want the headache...

I'd be one happy dude if we sign him. If his heads right, that's a huge steal!
I was on board with signing Colt Lyerla before it was fashionable. That said, I don't live in the United States and don't share the same level of sensitivity regarding his Sandy Hook comments which I acknowledge. I also realize he has many red flags dissuading the Patriots.

I think Lyerlas skill set is exactly what would flourish in the Patriot offense, but the Patriots are front runners in showing support and helping families of the Sandy Hook tragedy, Lyerlas comments buried his chances of ever coming here so long as Kraft and BB call the shots.

If Kenny Britt had no chance (made public by Kraft himself) Lyerla has even lesser than that. If he just had the run in with cocaine, he'd prob be worth a 6th or 7th and be under strict supervision..but he opened his mouth and showed the world how much of an idiot he truly is.

I'd like to also add, Lyerla doesn't have a rich resume.. he wasn't terrible productive so it isn't a given he would produce the way we all think based off #s alone. Hernandez had a much better resume in terms of stats that showed growth.
