What is Tom's future?

Greatest QB season ever. I'm very comfortable rejecting the Brady looks younger and played better argument. And I bet fans from the 44 states outside NE would see it the same way (lets throw in that suburb of NY....Conn. as well). Voters for MVP certainly rejected this argument. The Manning haters seem to believe hitting receivers at a 68% clip is easy or the ball just automatically lands in the "best receiving corp's " hands.

Tom Brady completed 68.9% of his passes in 2007. You know, when he had a receiving group like Manning had last season.

It's as if you try to make the weakest arguments possible.

And they both fell flat on their faces when it mattered most. So between the two seasons, it seems like a moot argument to debate whose was better...

I would consider Brady in 2001 to be the season that is among the best QB season ever, because he elevated a team with no chance to a Championship.
Statistics are pretty, but winning means more.
Brady 2007 would be hands down winner if the D had held up on the last drive, because he would have won everything, every game, and been the focal reason in most of them.

Realistic scenario if Garoppolo turns out to be legit:

Miguel has mentioned that in 2016, Brady becomes tradeable as we would receive cap relief if he is traded at this point.

The 2016 offseason approaches. Brady is still playing at a high level as he turns 39 and Garoppolo has been on the bench for 2 seasons, impressing in TC/preseason/film room/etc. BB trades Brady to a talented NFC team for two 1st rounders or something like that. Garoppolo is named the 2016 starter.

Thoughts? If BB truly is about maximizing value, this scenario isn't out of the question.

IMO Brady plays the next three years and then considers if he could play another two or retire. I think its pretty much a lock Brady will start the next 3 years.

Brady has a contract through 2017. No one has any idea how many years he will play.

It seems a no-brainer to sign a quarterback who will be his backup through 2017.

Other than Mallett's departure date, we have no need to discuss quarterback for awhile. Brady will play at a high level as long as he can.

I'm going to be very, very sad no matter what happens... unless it plays out perfectly and Tom chooses to retire after a Superbowl win.

I think my eyes just welled up a little thinking about it.

I have nothing to go on other than Tom's studious love of the game and his obvious intelligence, but I really do hope he stays on in some capacity with the organization. Quarterback coach maybe for starts.

After TomB finishes his career as a QB in the NFL, he will likely stay with the Patriot Organization is some form or another. Reason why I say this is because:

1) Patriots Org have TomB have a very good repore.
2) TomB loves football.
3) TomB and Gisele have fully relocated back to MA (sold LA mansion).

Why would BB retire?

Talk about a "retire to what?" guy.

He doesn't even begin to hint at burnout.

The only thing that would make sense is he wants to catch up reading on this 2,000 plus collection of football books.

Maybe join Dungy as a talking head?

Could you imagine an hour long Belichick "X's and O's" on NFLN?

Talk about must see TV.

Ron Borges was on CSNE last night and said he does not think Brady is going to play the final three years of this contract at the current pay rate. Borges thinks there will be a contract situation after this season.

If they trade Tom Brady I will have a hard time even watching their games, he has done too much for this organization to be traded away for cap relief.

But when Brady goes...BB goes

Disagree. I think it's a big, fat "it depends".

I believe BB is egotistical (I say that as a believed statement of fact, not as an insult) enough that he wants to prove to the doubters that it's (primarily) him, not Brady.

So I believe that if at the time Brady hangs up the cleats BB thinks the team is in a good place, he will coach for a while longer. But if he thinks the team is at a place where it'll be uncompetitive without Brady, he'll follow Brady out the door.

Borg,

Don't get me wrong. Peyton used to make receivers great. I forget who, but there was an eh guy with the Ravens who became a world beater with the Colts.
But that was then, Saturn the bringer of old age is relentless. Eric Decker made Tebow look good.
Welker was good pre-Peyton - heck, You can't argue that he didn't help Brady.

Yeah, MVP voters, blah, blah, blah. You know how much respect we have for football writers.:) (Hint: these are the same guys that voted Vick come back player the year after he came back.)

Did you hear what he based that on?

Gisele.

Between what she makes and them selling the house they built in California for over $40m. Just don't think she will be hounding Tom to get more money.

Also history shows Brady just doesn't do that. In fact he would probably restructure to have less of a cap hit if it meant keeping Revis.

With the Garoppolo pick, Bill is clearly thinking about this franchise's future, but how do you think it will unfold on Tom?

3 years from now he will be 40, he will likely want to still play, he said pretty much so recently. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/14/brady-plans-to-play-until-hes-told-not-to/

With that in mind, does anyone here envision him retiring as a patriots or will he go somewhere else like it happened to Peyton?

Everything we know about brady suggests that, while he wants to play until he's 40, he won't want to do so if he can't play at a high level. I think it's highly unlikely that the pats (in this case BB) and Brady will have contrary views of what he can contribute to the team; they will either both see that he is still contributing at a very high level or they will see that he isn't. So, I don't think it's likely that it will come down to him feeling he has to go elsewhere to make a point.

Is it possible that some team trying to sell season tickets or PSL's and build its gate would throw a silly amount of money at him for a year or two even if he isn't still "Tom Brady?" Yeah, I guess so and that's the only scenario under which I could see him going elsewhere to close out his career...but I hasten to add that I think that's very, very, very unlikely to happen.

BB might trade Brady. That's not so hard to believe.

I think this lights a serious fire under Brady and he once again sets out to prove everyone wrong about his impending demise.

....

Disagree. I don't think Brady needs an untested QB from a relatively small college program to light a fire under him. I think that he lights his own fire; the players who might provide some kindling for that fire would have names like Manning, Rodgers, Brees, Luck and Wilson, not Garoppolo
