Im a huge BB fan and I put Objective Homer. I think he is the best coach of his era and has the possibility of going down as the best ever. But he has to do 2 things

1. Win a post spygate SB...even though i think spygate was way overblown, his critics will always use it against him
...
It won't help. Seriously then the cry will be he only won 1 after spygate. I like those people because it gives me an opening. Here's the reply:

I agree, poster's name. Since week 2 of 2007 he went 16-0 and only won 2 of the three AFCC's he was in and only went 11-5 with Matt Cassel solely on the aging tapes of defensive co-ordinators in 2006. Do I need a sarcasm emoticon or is your position stupid enough?

What kind of Belichick fan am I? Hmmm.

I guess I could best sum it up as follows: I am the kind of fan who remembers having his arse frozen to a metal bleacher while watching Jim Everett beat a 1-15 Patriots team.

He doesn't walk on water and he is certainly not infallible. But for providing me with a decade and a half of following a team that is the envy of the league, I could be talked into giving him a reach-around if he fancied it.

i almost misunderstood your post, by my own fault, but i concur

Spygate was the end result of Bill's arrogance and trying to outsmart everyone else. Most of the time those are positive traits in an NFL head coach. But not all the time.

Level 0: If I were any more homer I'd be writing greek epic poems. (although i will admit that when you go for it on 4th and 2 and you only get 1... even if you're right, it didn't work that one time)

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a ball to long-snap for a safety.

I am a Hardcore Homer!!! It cracks me up when people who watch football on TV and played ball in high school think they know better than a man who was born and raised on the teat of football. You will never ... ever have another football mind like BB. Is that too much???;)

I take exception to the idea that it can be "too much." Go be a Jets fan. ;)

Most people watch the Pats and know wins and losses, or run play vs pass play, etc but the real genius of BB is when you understand what he's doing to set people up and the concepts he's using within the game. He can make good coaches look foolish.

It's the reason he can win 11 games with a qb that hadn't started since high school, drag the 31st ranked defense to the Super Bowl, or got 16-0 just to piss people off. If you see the game within the game, you realize how he's moving pieces around the chess board to attack or feign weakness to spring a trap. It's a whole other level of the game and that's what separates him.

Percentage wise I think he made the correct call given the circumstances. It didn't work out, but I wouldn't call it a dumb move.

First, Faulk made the first down and the refs screwed NE on the spot. So in a very real sense the play actually worked.

That said, if BB was planning on going for it on 4th down all along (and IMHO he should have been), they should have played it that way for the whole series -- i.e. realize you have three downs before the do-or-die down rather than just two downs before do-or-die, and I don't think the playcalling in the series reflected that. So that's what I fault him on, not the fact that he went for it.

My fault. We need an emoticon for, I don't know what to call the first part.

"Accepting the uniformed Patriots hat of idiots as unavoidable," is kinda wordy.:)

Did I forget to post this or is this a double post? Sorry, the new site saved it for some reason.

Worth repeating.
Hope that doesn't make us BB haters! :)

So far not a single user is willing to admit to being a Subjective Critic or a Super Critic.

They are either trying to skew the results..

or theyve all got me on Ignore.. ;)

I voted "objective homer" but the description of "homer" should be for "objective homer"

Belichick has so much more inside information than anyone else here his decisions should be above reproach. You and I are not capable of judging him without the same level of inside knowledge.

Just look at that statement, it's so true! How on earth does anyone on here including myself think they know more than him. Last season Belichick took a dig at the media for saying whose mistake a particular play was on when even he admitted you can't know who was at fault since he's not on that team.

So as quoted above... "You and I are not capable of judging him without the same level of inside knowledge." That statement is so true and not a "homer" attitude.

Every time I doubt BB, i get proven wrong. He's made some mistakes, like everyone else does, but he's a mad genius that i love to trust

Doubting BB on draft picks you'll be a % winner since most draft picks do not succeed.
Then again, that's true with all NFL GMs.

I would love to know if BB knew at the time of the trade that trading for Isaac Sopoaga in 2013 would cost the Pats a compensatory pick this year.

Interesting bad consequence
I think BB was desperate at the time
Bet he did NOT know the consequence
He needed Miguel on his staff

1. Hardcore Homer - In Bill We Trust, always and forever.

Belichick is an unappreciated genius that never makes mistakes. If you think He made a mistake, you're an idiot.

2. Homer - In Bill I trust.

3. Objective Homer - In Bill I trust.. usually.

I trust Belichick in the things I dont undertand but if the evidence is there, I'll criticize him for it.

4. Just an Average Fan - In the Patriots and winning games I trust.

I just love football. I don't have too strong of an opinion about Belichick either way. I'm here mostly to learn and to talk football. I probably shouldn't be called a "casual" fan because well, I'm here participating in a football forum -during the off-season.

5. Objective Critic - In my knowledge of football I trust.
bos_101111_reiss_pat.jpg

I criticize Belichick when I feel he deserves it but will probably give him the benefit of the doubt by waiting and seeing how things turns out if I don't understand any one particular move of his.

6. Subjective Critic - In my knowledge of football I trust -above all else.
mqdefault.jpg

I compare everything Bill does to what I personally would have done in his place and criticize him when it differs.

7. Super Critic - In Bill the GM I never Trust.

Anything Bill the GM does, the average NFL GM/coach probably could have done better (or maybe even me). I may or may not think Bill is an average/good/great coach, but the one thing I am certain of, he is a poor/average GM.

Just for fun. No right or wrong answer. I'm guessing the majority of posters fall between 3 and 5.
Hardcore all the way. Note the resemblances in my avatar and the first picture! My football roommates thought Steve was one of the finest coaches they had ever played for and it is because of his father that BB is such a student of the game. He truly understands what is required for continued success - keeps raising the bar!

;) We all gotta love ANY poll that gives us a chance to say we're objective!
Yeah, I'm objective...because I'm always right...
