2014 UDFA Signings

Looks like the Eagles got Blake Annen and Trey Burton as UDFAs.. too bad..

Looks like BB is going to throw a bunch of UDFA TE's at the position and hope that one pans out. You really don't need 4.6 speed in the red zone. For a TE, its more a matter of quick feet and body position than pure speed that's important. So a relatively good 3 cone time is more significant to me than a good 40 time

At any rate glad to see the Pats are trying to address the TE position with these FA signings.
I suspect that Belichick didn't think there were any draftees in the 4th round who were better prospects than Williams and Harrison.

Camp fodder is great. After all, we might find another Sudfeld.

As you say, Belichick is looking is free agency for a TE. I suspect that we will sign Keller. Otherwise, we will go with Gronkowski, Hooman and have Williams and Harrison fight it out for the 3rd spot. Even the default situation is better than we've had in many of the Belichick years.

Belichick made his choice of Easley instead of ASJ. I think that he is more comfortable with the TE situation than we are.

we could of had them both. easley might of been available at the end of round 2.

Seali’i Epenesa, DT, UCLA

Malcolm Butler, CB, West Alabama

Calvin Tonga, NT, Colorado State

A bigger back at 5'11" 225 with decent power, hands and speed. Nice signing. Competition for Bolden/Ridley.

Houston has very impressive athleticism. Better than Ridley overall.

Ridley

Height: 5112
Weight: 225
40 Yrd Dash: 4.65
20 Yrd Dash: 2.66
10 Yrd Dash: 1.60
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 18
Vertical Jump: 36
Broad Jump: 09'10"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.21
3-Cone Drill: 6.78

Houston

Height: 5103
Weight: 225
40 Yrd Dash: 4.52
20 Yrd Dash: 2.61
10 Yrd Dash: 1.58
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 24
Vertical Jump: 40
Broad Jump: 11'00"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.23
3-Cone Drill: 7.07

Ridley wins the three cone by a decent amount and the shuttle barely. Other than that Houston wins. I have no idea how good a RB he is but his athleticism is off the charts.

Or 2nd round pick Jeremy Hill :

Height: 6005
Weight: 233
40 Yrd Dash: 4.58
20 Yrd Dash: 2.70
10 Yrd Dash: 1.61
225 Lb. Bench Reps: 20
Vertical Jump: 31
Broad Jump: 9'5"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.59
3-Cone Drill: 7.64

Houston wins them all, most by a lot, only 8 pounds lighter.

Hopefully he can actually play; I wonder about that because athletically he should have been a 2nd round pick.

We already know better than that with our own eyeballs, The Sea Chickens were devastated when BB took Easly. It was obvious on their televised War room.

Houston looks like the real deal! Houston we solved a problem!

People forget that in 2001 all our TE's that season had just 20 catches for the entire regular season.

BTW - ASJ would have NEVER had the impact on the offense that Easly will have on the defense. ASJ would have been an OK pick, but Easly is a much better one. Given the choice I would take Easly every time.

If BB had thought that ASJ was the better pick, he would have traded down. I think the fact that BB only took 6 or the 15 allotted minutes to make his pick, shows that he wasn't that interested in trading down, and shows how sure he was that Seattle would have picked him.

As a very minor point, it's now 10 minutes for round one, seven for round two, and five beyond that.

Any news on Dion Bailey or Brandon Coleman........those guys would be awesome pickups

Never mind........damned Seahags got Bailey......Saints got Coleman

I know that this is what About.com has posted, but NFL.com was putting up only 3min 30 seconds per draft pick in the 5th,6th and 7th rounds..

DB: The five minutes starts, IIRC, the moment that the previous pick is received, not announced. The reason it didn't start at 5:00 per pick is the delay between the pick coming in and NFL.com updating.

It does not look good for Lyerla getting picked up by a team.
