Did they not get the memo? Tom needs help! Forehead over in Denver is throwing to all pros but once again when needing to get receiving help Brady will be asked to throw to UFA rookies like Kenbrell Thompkins for miracle game winning TD's.

They had stud tight ends and abundance of good college receivers sitting there at every pick waiting to be taken but instead decide to take a player that could have been had later on.

They must be expecting some serious year 2 jumps from what they already have and think Amendola is going to REALLY turn into Welker this time because without even knowing if Gronk will be 100% ready to go they did nothing in free agency to help and nothing in the draft either.

So what's the master plan now? Dustin Keller? The dude whose leg bent in half less than a year ago?

What a let down once again, but it's OK right? Tom is Tom and will find a way won't he. Pathetic if you ask me.

Seriously addressing an O Line which allowed. Brady to get beat up isn't helping him out?

They could have gone for a TE, absolutely, but I'm not too disheartened that they didn't.

Your post is clueless to the extreme.

We have a tonne of youth at WR with Edelman resigned and you have to imagine they're going to make that second year jump with the promise they showed in their first year.

The team did a massive amount to help Brady by protecting him.

Brady missed wide open receivers last year...FYI. He should be focussing on that as opposed to how the team is helping him out.

After seeing numerous 'loaded' offences fail at final hurdles, I'd sooner load up on defence like we did in the early part of Brady's career.

The coaches and staff have an obligation to their players to win. I expect Brady understands that.

Giving Manning weapons last year didn't do **** in the long run other than help him break records. I'm tired of gaudy offensive player stats I want to see them hoist another trophy. To shut up all the people who chalk up all the championships to taping defensive signals.

Brady has to want another ring more than he wants to break or tie this or that record. How anyone could watch the Ravens or Seahawks or Giants win and come away thinking that improving our defense is a negative for the team is beyond me.

As far as drafting Garappolo, the team's obligation is to all players and fans to try to win, not to one. The reality that Brady's career is coming to an end is a bitter pill but Belichick has always built a roster to compete year in and year out and that's not going to change. He's clearly not going to ransom the future just to try to win now. How often does 'win now' mode work? I can't remember a time. In fact, year in and year out the offseason champions seem to lose because you can't build a championship team like you build one in Madden.

But even if they get O-Line help what the F does that matter if his receiver can't catch a cold? I'm sorry you have to be blind to have not seen that joke of a passing offense without Gronk. They didn't even pick up a backup for Gronk!

He's right, but get ready for the homers to bash you.
Or some people just think that there is more to a football team than receivers.

I love the Easley pick and think that he can help us much more than any receiver or tight end that was available. The 4th round OL picks gives us flexibility and can hopefully let us replace the weakest link among the starters in Wendell. Maybe even Connolly. That in turn will let us run the ball better and keep Brady standing.

The Patriots had to practically throw out their play book and re-write it with the loss of Hernandez and Gronk. That isn't easy to do. Their rookie production was more than solid.

I am DELIGHTED that they decided to beef up this D to the extreme in the offseason but you do understand that you need at least a modicum of Offense to succeed don't you? You seriously can't just expect the D to do great work and then not have a pass offense to help? In case you missed the SB Seattle's receiving corps TORE the Broncos to shreds to go along with that defensive performance.

This is one step in fielding a team, not the end results. IMO this was a very utilitarian, practical draft that addressed team needs now for depth, and for the future...

It seems every year after a draft, the same knee jerk reactions happen.

They will address TE, LB and other positions in other ways.. this is not about TB, it is about the NEP. There will be a football team after #12 retires..

The interior line cost Brady way more than lack of WR targets. The team came out of day 3 with a guard, a center who can play guard, a tackle who can play guard, and a 3rd down RB. How can Brady be let down with that?
Because plenty of teams have GREAT lines that protect their QB but don't have receivers worth a lick that can get open and catch the football.

Honestly even with the potentially improved 0-line if Amendola doesn't step up, Edelman doesn't keep up that pace and those rookies don't make a jump to go along with Gronk having to be there for it work then you are going to see the same thing as last year.

Protecting the Franchise is the #1 priority of any FO. The Pats really struggled in two areas last season, C and RG. They should get better at RG with Cannon returning to the spot now that Vollmer is back whilst Stork should be a significant upgrade over Wendell. Look out for Halapio by the way, he was a 4 year starter at RG in College, two time team captain too. He is NASTY and could really push for a starting spot. The Fleming pick is a solid one too, 38 career starts in one of the most competitive conferences in the country and for a quality program is no mean feat, he's been very healthy too.

I think we've solidified what was our biggest problem last year.

That should allow Brady to find Gronk, Edelman, Amendola and Dobson, which is hardly the worst bunch of weapons in the league, is it?

We have weapons already - Edelman, Amendola, Gronk, Dobson and Lafell. There really isn't much room on the roster for another weapon other than backup TE. TE and S are the only areas they did not address in the draft. But you can't build a perfect roster, only try to build the best one.

also, seattle didn't have "weapons" like the forehead, but they won the super bowl anyway and the forehead got embarressed.

It is not a bad bunch at all but your last paragraph is an assumption because 3 of the 4 were injured ALOT. If they are all healthy and out there then Tom will be Tom and this team will put up 30+ easily to go with a vastly improved D. But i don't need to tell you that the NFL is the NFL and injuries happen on a daily basis, so where is the depth at receiver in a passing league?

If the same thing as last year is a top 10 offense, 12 wins, and an AFCC game appearance - this time with Revis and Browner starting at corner instead of Talib and Dennard, and a disruptive interior pass rusher and a veteran DE to spell Jones and Nink - then I'm ok with it.

Have you ever analyzed other teams depth?? We have a deep roster in most positions, and that is our trademark. To focus on WR and what might happen to them is folly.

Just adding pieces to add pieces makes no sense for the Patriots.. there will be more additions by September. This draft addressed not only current needs, but future needs as well.

what you overlook is that a vastly improved defense, on paper, will allow more time for Brady to have the ball in his hands.. in the past "keep away" was an effective tool at limiting the success of Brady.

The Pats were 3rd in the NFL in points scored last year. From some of the posts, I would swear they were 3 from the bottom. And if you watched the games last year, then you would understand what rookie receivers likely can do for an offense as rookies. It is more likely last year's rookies will contribute than would a new addition to WR or TE. Linemen, on the other hand, can contribute immediately if they have the ability.

You can help an offense with defense as well. If a team doesn't have to pass because of a deficit and gets the ball back at midfield, then life for an offense is that much easier. That seems to be a big theme this offseason, while keeping some solid offensive contributors and adding some young talent. Not flashy, but potentially a substantial improvement in all three phases.

TE's in this draft was flawed. Picked up a couple of UFA. If you geet a WR this draft you give up on the 3 from last year. Not ready to do that this year. 1 year in the system is better than a rookie who might not be smart enough for it. Beefing up the OL and DL was my priorities. Did just that. We strengthened our team where we needed it. That gives us the best chance to win. That is how you help Brady. without protection WR's do not matter. I like it
