If he is 40..and the pats feel like Jimmy G is ready..they may go to him...if at 39 we all see brady is declining bad..the call will have to be made....i just hope he doesn't go somewhere else

But when Brady goes...BB goes

Really, really bright!

Garoppolo will share the same fate as Mallett: potentially over drafted back up Quarterback who won't see the field as long as Brady continues to play to a high level.

The Patriots just invested heavily in protecting Brady. If he's given time and protected, there's no reason to think he can't play and produce for some time.

I'm going to be very, very sad no matter what happens... unless it plays out perfectly and Tom chooses to retire after a Superbowl win.

I think my eyes just welled up a little thinking about it.

I have nothing to go on other than Tom's studious love of the game and his obvious intelligence, but I really do hope he stays on in some capacity with the organization. Quarterback coach maybe for starts.

With the Garoppolo pick, Bill is clearly thinking about this franchise's future, but how do you think it will unfold on Tom?

I think Belichick is primarily thinking about the future of the backup QB position. That's the Pats' most immediate QB need.

...

I am not sure about this, if Brady is 40 and about to go, then BB would certainly surround him with talent on the draft for one last bang, but instead of being selfish he took Jimmy on the second. That is a commitment for the Pats.

Plenty of people keep talking about this "one last bang." Belichick has never done anything to indicate that he would do anything like that.

if tom wins 2 more titles i think hed consider retirement at 40

i will be very surprised if BB isn't still here after Brady is done, and i think brady will be here 2-3 more years.

If he is still the starting QB in his 40's then i will come back here and admit that im a moron who wanted to see BB be successful without brady and i didnt know what i was talking about

BB stays after TB leaves.. He loves the game, has his son next to him (showing him the ropes) and the most important factor (IMHO) he wants to show people he can win without TB (on a consistent basis)

Sadly, the odds are that Brady is already in a decline that will be more pronounced in the coming year, and even more so in the year after that. If this isn't the case, I'll be delighted, but those are the odds. It is a requirement of those in the personnel roles in the organization to play the odds, not their hopes.

I agree Bill obviously has a healthy ego regarding his legacy and he still loves what he does and he seems to be in good health

I think 1 more and he is pretty close to done at 40...probably shooting for one last ring

I think Brady will continue to perform at a high enough level to start until he's 40-41

He supposedly takes great care of his body, on top of already being blessed with aging very well. I mean, look at him compared to Peyton. Manning is 1 year older (age 38) and looks 55 years old. Brady is 37 and looks 30.

1) No one knows how long Brady will be able to play at a high level; we all hope until the end of his contract, or even longer. That is one reason for making sure that we have a quality backup. To go from top to bottom if Brady is down, as Indy, did is not acceptable to Kraft. For those who think that the rest of the Indy team wasn't that good, I would simply note that the next year the team was in the playoffs with Luck as quarterback.

2) I expect Brady to retire as a patriot. Brady doesn't have compensation levels anywhere near what Manning had.

3 years from now he will be 40, he will likely want to still play, he said pretty much so recently. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/14/brady-plans-to-play-until-hes-told-not-to/

With that in mind, does anyone here envision him retiring as a patriots or will he go somewhere else like it happened to Peyton?

If Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning can finish their careers with different teams there's no reason to think that scenario couldn't possibly happen with Brady either. And if there is one coach in the NFL with the stones to make that decision he is the guy who is currently the HC of the NEP.

I really hope brady stays a Patriot for the rest of his career but it's not unthinkable that he might not...

Montana had another top 10 all-time QB behind him.
Manning had this generation's Manning behind him.
Favre "retired" twice

Brady's got nobody behind him and has shown no inclination towards retirement.

BB does not have a "phase out" plan, and he does not keep players for sentimental reasons.

If Brady is the best QB on the roster, then he will play. If he declines and loses his starter position, then will come the inevitable "How much do you pay the backup?" question.

I would agree the Pats probably drafted Mallet's replacement, not Brady's replacement. Brady would have to fall quite a ways before any backup challenges his strangle hold on the starting QB position. Given Brady's skill set and level of play, I wouldn't presume to predict when someone might present a challenge. It still seems like a long way off as Brady would be considered at worst a top 5 QB by any reasonable football fan.

I think this lights a serious fire under Brady and he once again sets out to prove everyone wrong about his impending demise.

Hopefully Garrapolo is actually as good as that pick would suggest and he gives Brady serious pause when watching him work, practice and learn, because all that will do is push Brady that much harder. The more I think about it the more I like the entire dynamic to this, the only part I won't like will be the incessant speculation.
