Cameron Fleming RT, 4th 140 - Nice Pick

After watching the second video I imagined how he'd do with a football in his hands powering forward for hard yards. :) He looks like he has some speed and agility for someone with that amount of strength.

I love the fact that the commentators believe he is NFL ready day one.

I had him mocked to the Pats, really like this guy, smart player. Really like this and the Stork pick.

Patriots pick Cameron Fleming in 4th - espnBoston

The pick:Cameron Fleming, offensive tackle, Stanford.

Mike Reiss' take: After not selecting an offensive lineman in the 2012 and 2013 drafts, the Patriots double-dipped this year, first with center Bryan Stork (4th round, 105th) and then Fleming. This is important from a feed-the-pipeline and salary-cap integrity standpoint. Specific to Fleming, the pick strikes me as "Marcus Cannon Insurance." Cannon enters the final year of his contract and he's proven to be a starting caliber player who could be worthy of a lucrative contract next offseason that the Patriots might not be able to match. There also is an element of "Sebastian Vollmer Insurance" as well, as the team's starting right tackle is recovering from a broken ankle sustained last October and has battled injuries at times over his career.

Size stands out: Fleming is listed at 6-foot-4 7/8 and 323 pounds. It just so happened that Stanford coach David Shaw was on NFL Network at the time of the pick, and he said, "The first thing that stands out is size." Shaw added that 323 pounds might be generous. Fleming was an Aeronautics and Astronautics major at Stanford.

Offensive tackle depth chart:Nate Solder (left), Sebastian Vollmer (right/left), Marcus Cannon (right), Fleming (right), Jordan Devey, R.J. Mattes.

What's next: The Patriots have three sixth-round picks (179, 198, 206) and a seventh-rounder (244).

It Is What It Is >> Patriots select Stanford OT Cameron Fleming with 140th overall pick

Stanford offensive tackle Cameron Fleming was taken by the Patriots with the 140th overall pick in the draft on Saturday.

The 6-foot-5, 323-pounder is a two-time honorable mention All-Pac-12 pick who made his bones as a right tackle as a collegian — he started 28 games at the position the last two years. He graduated with a degree in aeronautics and astronautics, and will likely battle to work as a backup tackle behind starters Sebastian Vollmer (right tackle) and Nate Solder (left tackle).

NFL Draft Day 3 Live Blog: Pats Draft OT Cam Fleming 140th Overall << CBS Boston

Here is the scouting report for Fleming from CBSSports:

STRENGTHS: Certainly looks the part of an NFL offensive lineman, boasting a massive frame with broad shoulders, long arms and with his weight evenly distributed throughout his upper and lower body. At least fair initial quickness as a run blocker, occasionally firing out when he needs to get to the second level. Powerful drive blocker. Latches on and controls opponents, keeping his feet moving through contact to move the defender off the ball. Uses his length and strong arms to catch rushers, pinning them inside or riding them out to keep the pocket clean. Missed two games with an ankle injury in 2011 but has otherwise remained healthy throughout his career.

WEAKNESSES: A bit lead-footed in pass coverage, struggling against speed rushers. Struggles with balance, coming off the ball too high. Drops his head on contact, relying on his power to knock defenders onto their heels but leaving himself vulnerable to swim moves. While powerful, isn’t necessarily nasty, which could concern some given the especially physical close quarters play of the interior, where some will project Fleming. Worth noting, as well, that all 38 of Fleming’s career starts have come at right tackle.

COMPARES TO: James Brewer, New York Giants – Like the 6-foot-6, 330-pound former Indiana Hoosier tackle, Fleming offers great size and power, but his lack of ideal quickness and agility could lead to a move inside in the NFL. If he commits to the position change, Fleming could develop into a starting option but it may take a year or two of development.

He started 38 games for Stanford against very good Pac-12 opposition. He’s also graduating in the spring with a degree in aeronautics and astronautics. So he’s wicked smart.

At 6-5 and 323-pounds Fleming is another big body on the line. He’ll provide injury insurance for Sebastian Vollmer and Marcus Cannon.

New England Patriots draft offensive tackle Cameron Fleming in 4th round | masslive.com

The New England Patriots continued to build on their depth on the offensive line in the fourth round.

After earlier selecting center Bryan Stork out of Florida State, the Patriots added Stanford tackle Cameron Fleming with pick No. 140. Fleming majored in aeronautics and astronautics.

The 6-foot-4, 323-pound Fleming started 14 games at right tackle last year for Stanford, helping the Cardinal rush for a school-record 2,904 yards.

Fleming will provide insurance behind Sebastian Vollmer at right tackle.

Yeah, these O-Line picks make me feel a lot better about the O-line for the foreseeable future. The offense needed an injection of talent somewhere, and TE is light in the draft and we already have a buch of WRs.

Had to wait three days but my prayers for an offensive lineman have been answered!

So I guess Pats football is rocket science after all...

Fleming was an Aeronautics and Astronautics major at Stanford.

Fleming is not the type of player who will be a perennial all pro O-Line player BUT he is a very smart player who makes few mistakes and a lot of upside. He is also an enormous individual. All he needs is some more nastiness and playing with Mankins will sure help solve that problem. Good value pick who could be a good and consistent player for a long time. Tom Brady should be a very happy man because he will have a huge line in front of him.

Hope these guys like uggs.
