Little immediate help -- implications?

Keep in mind we also have one of the youngest rosters in the league... didn't we have the most rookies on a 53 man roster last season? Count on the growth and development of them. Also consider the fact that the Pats had similar grades on 3rd-4th round prospects and it makes sense they would trade down.

I would love to see guys like Coleman, Exum, Burton/Thomas, Tripp/Smith/KPL/Jones taken in the last day of the draft.

AzPatsFan, yeah, sitting behind Gronk for the six games he plays in next year, before he gets another boo boo, misses the playoffs, and then takes his sweet time coming back and repeating the process. Plus, I don't know if you're aware, but they can play two TE's at once. But hey, apparently they're set with Hooman and his nine catches per year.

No I'm not, but why did you want to draft clones of Hoomanawnui and think you were better off? These TE aside from Ebron were exactly that. You will have more luck with LaFell and/or Harrison, IMHO. Meanwhile Hoomanawanui is a good blocking TE, for two TE rushing occasions.

We are doomed!!!!!

Players we need to look at day 3

Andre Williams, Boston College (5-11, 230)

Jared Abbrederis, Wisconsin (6-1, 195) saw this dude play live when they came to play ohio state runs some of the best routes i have seen

Craig Loston, LSU (6-1, 217)

Telvin Smith, Florida State (6-3, 218)

I don't get the excitement over the draft-able TEs this year either. Maybe the Patriots made loading up on Superstar tight ends look easy one draft, but that was a lot of awesome falling into place. Things usually aren't going to be that perfect. None of those TEs really looked like can't miss talents. I would love to see more depth like most people here, but we aren't replacing Hernandez easily. We aren't going to backup Gronk with a Gronk lite.

You know what i wish we did but i dont think the Pats will because of Aaron colt lyerla is a great player he plays a little like hernandez but he also has alot of problems

Not sure where immediate help is needed, the biggest weakness in this team right now are backup LB's and TE.... that might be addressed either between now and June, or in June..

There are still 7 picks, and confident that two or three will make this team...

Not real worried, the draft sometimes is viewed as a panacea for a team.. all the while it is at best a crapshoot...

Dropping 12 spots in the 3rd/4th is almost inconsequential if you have fairly equal grades, or options.

My theory is that they are trying to hit on some 4th or 6th rounders, (they have 6) to find some cheap players to balance off Revis, Wilfork and all the big second contracts coming up.

They plan that stuff out instead of being forced to cut important players.

This is pretty much what Coach said in his press conference. He felt that the value wasn't there with his 3rd pick and so he traded getting another 4th & a 6th round where he expects to be able to find at least the same value as what he traded out of. I agree with him on this.

Now, as I've said elsewhere, I would have preferred he took AJ McCarron, but I'm just a fan and an Alabama Homer, so there's that. :) I'm good with his 2 picks so far and am looking forward to see what transpires today.

We didn't get much immediate help, but the team has to work with the cards they're dealt. The TE's are weak in the class. The safeties are typically weak in the draft. We picked up a DT/DE already. I wish we grabbed a G/C in the 2nd round, but oh well. Perhaps the 4th round. This is the area I'd like a back-up LB and potentially an OT, depending upon how much they like the current OTs on the team and who's available. If they don't like Buchanon, then I'd consider another DE for competition.

In the end, the defense will hopefully play similar to what they did in the first quarter of last season, before they lost both Mayo and Wilfork...and Kelly. That was a good defense, and we have better pieces this year.

On offense, hopefully the slew of receivers improves. And perhaps we can find a TE and RB in the late/mid rounds in combination with the undrafted depth that's supposedly out there.

I am still holding out hope that Tony Gonzales signs some time after training camp breaks.

I would like another Lombardi, but hey, that's just me

The Pats will win another AFCE and have a winning record.

What more do you want?

Not only that, but I guarantee a first round bye and a win over whatever cupcake they face out of Indy/KC/Cin/SD. The AFCCG and SB might be a different story.

I found my pick #105 binky for today. He only needs to last for 5 more picks. He certainly wouldn't be a reach at least as ranked by CBS. He fills a definite team need at SS but is versatile enough to play elsewhere in the secondary. OK size for the position and decent measurable athleticism at the combine. I assume he has been thoroughly vetted, scouted and physically tested by his big brother for purposes of this nepotism selection:

Brock Vereen looks like a Patriots fit with the next pick.

so I am the bar last night and the Pats pick comes up and it's a third string quarterback. I'm saying to myself, gee I've only had "a couple" of beers, how come I can't see straight?

I mean really? I woke up this morning convinced that they had traded the pick and I just didn't catch it at the bar, but no, that is what they did!

Unless there is some trade for Mallet already in place, this pick makes absolutely no sense! With contracts now, you are just going to have to overpay to keep an unproven QB, by the time Brady retires! Unless anyone thinks Brady is done in the next two years?

This pick is an absolute waste!!!!!!

PLUS HE ISNT EVEN BETTER THAN MALLET

In fairness, I don't see how he can be worse than Mallett. All he needs to do is complete a pass.

So, why are you surprised that you don't understand what the team is doing?

The team signed a backup QB for 2014-2017. Why is that so hard to understand. Mallett was only signed through 2014. We are likely to trade Mallett.

I understand that many folks would rather depend on a 7th rounder. Belichick disagreed. For months, he has been bringing in every top quarterback. He settled on Bortles and Garopolo. I don't know who his 3rd choice was. We would have found out if someone else drafted Garapolo,

trade mallett for what?? think we all overrated him.

as for the draft, it's been the worst one in a long time. don't like having belichick as the gm, sick of this value garbage.anyway, i'm hoping for da'quan jones and a decent tight end. expecting brock vereen and the gunner from rutgers.

You'd think we finished last in the AFC with how many "immediate starters" we've passed up in the draft. Our roster must be awful.

Good teams are lucky to find 2 starters in a draft IMO. Because they shouldn't need it. Safety, C, and RG are the areas that needed the most immediate attention and even if they were better players I'd be terrified having a pair of rookies starting together in front of TB.

I'm more than happy with this draft so far and will probably be ecstatic after today.

It might stink carrying 3 QBs bit it beats having only a rookie behind Brady next year. Easley could very well start if he's healthy. He can be that good. But he doesn't need to because our roster is already one of the best in the NFL and if theyre healthy I don't think he's better than Wilfork or Kelly as a rookie.

Let's also not forget that interior OL can often come late. We may very well see a rookie win a job there and we should see plenty of depth added at RB, S, OLB, TE, and probably the entire OL. We have 7 picks left still.

I just think it's crazy that people think we're passing up starters left and right. You read a few good things about a prospect you've never heard of before last weekend and suddenly you want him starting on the team. Nuts lol.

And if Easly comes in and contributes and Garoppolo does succeed Brady and turns out to be good and the Pats are still a contender in the AFC?

Would it still be the worst draft in a long time? No it wouldn't
