NFL Draft: Day 2, Rounds 2-3 Thread

We could use an outside guy with size late. we only need one. Thompkins was a stop gap imo. Boyce has more ST value. We could use 2 rookie TE's late and a Keller signing. Logan Thomas and Coke will do. Lyerla could be the best TE in this draft. That isn't a radical stance.

We do need another TE. We should have picked one in the second round IMO.

I disagree with your assessment on our WRs. LaFell and Dobson are both big outside WRs. And Gronk adds another dimension once he is healthy.

We should have picked a LB in the third. After Mayo, Collins, and Hightower, there's a huge drop off.

So.....

Draft Christian Jones
Draft McCullers (or DaQuan Jones, though I prefer the big guy as a project)
Draft Trai Turner
Draft Pierre-Louis
Draft Colt Lyerla (then keep him away from Christian Jones)
Sign Keller after the draft
Sign Davin Joseph (or Richie Incognito or other legit veteran capable of starting) after the draft
Move Connolly to center

and things start to get interesting, both on and off the field.

Turner is gone. Some think that's why the Pats moved back.

I was out all evening and just got back to find out what new shiny gifts were under my draft tree. After spend the day falling in love with our first round pick, I couldn't wait for the next 2 Pats rookies to join the deepening team building effort. Would it be a TE, or an offensive lineman. Perhaps it would be the LB we so desperately need for depth. No matter, whomever it would be I knew I'd be OK with it. There were just SO many good names left for us to pick.

ARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bill, why do you hate us so much ?????????????? There just can't be any reasonable explanation for what you did today. In a day we'd like to think we'd pick up 2 players who we'd hope would might eventually become starters, we take a questionable QB who won't see the field for the next THREE years to come in and back up the LAST 2nd day QB who STILL hasn't seen a significant snap in the last 3 years.

Now in ANOTHER effort to become king of the 3rd day, all we have left to look forward to are 7 picks 3rd day picks to see which will become the next Matthew Slater.

BOTTOM LINE: I understand that underneath the rage, what didn't happen today isn't going to make or break our season. There are a lot of reasons to be very excited about the upcoming season. HOWEVER...... here's the thing. All of our rivals got better today. We DIDN'T.

Mayo,Vollmer,Wilfork and Kelly say hello. Those 4 trump anything are rivals have done in this draft and you can book that. Add in Easley and the enigma that is Armstead.

This board is hilarious right now.

Still got a good shot at a lot of good players. For all we know they are going to own it tomorrow.

Jones, Tripp, Skov, Telvin Smith, Smallwood, Pierre-Louis all still out there.

Gut tells me if Tripp is there at 105 tomorrow they take him.

There is no way in hell the Pats draft Colt Lyerla, that would actually be a good move, and this Patriot's 2014 draft is about making bad moves.

...This board is hilarious right now...

The knee jerking is happening on both sides, as usually happens come draft time. The Patriots took a big gamble in round one, and took a QB in round two. There's plenty of legitimate reason for people to hate this draft, if they do, and there's reason for people to like the draft, as well.

The Jets sucked 2 days ago. I don't know what the Pats salary situation is now or in the future, but maybe they need to hit on some low round, affordable picks. I think we've improved our defense between FA and the draft.

How about you take the Jets and I'll take the Pats this year and we'll see whose approach is better.
I really only give a **** about the Patriots, but to mock what the Jets have done in the draft, which is about 100x better than what the Pats have done, is just stupid.

Only thing they will own is trading tomorrow's picks for some picks in 2017

Like one of Christian Jones,Pierre Louis,Jordan Tripp with 105 tomorrow.

Gilmore and Rodgers were my antidote at TE in the 4th but they were both over drafted a little bit. Still some more options. Lyerla scares the bejezzus out of me but I can't deny his talent. I'd never give him the satisfaction of getting 4th rd pay for being a total -:;) up. Starting to hope Manxs binky Whitlock will be there in the 6th.

Im just trying to stay optimistic. Both picks are questionable, but I will refrain from hating this draft class till I see them play.

Geez, sure glad I didn't stay home all night just to watch this unfold.

Players we need to look at day 3

Andre Williams, Boston College (5-11, 230)

Jared Abbrederis, Wisconsin (6-1, 195) saw this dude play live when they came to play ohio state runs some of the best routes i have seen

Craig Loston, LSU (6-1, 217)

Telvin Smith, Florida State (6-3, 218)

Lol all of the people crying... Year after year. 2 or 3 picks will hit... Others won't ... Oh well. That is how it works

Heck the Patriots are in great shape with all those picks in the 4'th and 6'th rounds. They can get all the rugby players they want now...

I call BS. Pryor was a great pick and so was Jace Amaro. Amaro's gonna be a stud. Only Patsfans are too stupid to see that.

There are many, many evaluations of this year's tight end class that are firm in saying that every one of them except the kid from UNC is no better than JAG talent. Several NFL team scouts are quoted as saying this about Amaro. The capabilities (speed, size, route running) he used on college that made him better than those trying to cover him are below average for NFL tight ends.

We all know that the Kipers of the world are completely untrustworthy in this regard - they rank the players regardless of how they fit in the overall NFL talent scheme, because getting us fans all excited about the draft is how they make a living.

Just because we have a need doesn't change the quality of what's out there.

I am amused and amazed by the whiners on this thread. Doesn't anyone remember Bobby Grier and his great drafts which helped to ruin the team before BB came in.

Kenny Ladler is a name that hasn't come up. I believe he will be a Patriot. Belichick privately worked this kid out. This is the safety they are looking at.
