NFL Draft: Day 2, Rounds 2-3 Thread

We are in a "win now" mode and so far this draft has been extremely contradicting.

What in the world is going on?

Belichick isn't gambling the teams future unlike certain other teams. Tom Brady, unfortunately, is getting to the end of his career now and if they think Garoppolo can step in as a starter in 2, 3 or even 4 years time and the team can still be a playoff contender then the pick was worth it.

Regarding WR for day three:

I prefer Dobson/KT over any of the WRs left. It's time to just roll with Edelman/Dobson/Lafell/Amendola/KT. A kid drafted in rds 4-7 probably won't make the team.

Andre or Ka'deem at pick 105.

well, in the ironic symmetry is funny dept, the Red Sox were also one hit tonight...

I found my pick #105 binky for tomorrow. He only needs to last for 5 more picks. He certainly wouldn't be a reach at least as ranked by CBS. He fills a definite team need at SS but is versatile enough to play elsewhere in the secondary. OK size for the position and decent measurable athleticism at the combine. I assume he has been thoroughly vetted, scouted and physically tested by his big brother for purposes of this nepotism selection:

Brock Vereen looks like a Patriots fit with the next pick.

In September, he was cleared 2 weeks ago during a re-check. He is on the record saying he felt 80% during his pro day. He will be ready opening day.

Let's hope so.

But an ACL is still an ACL. Not only is it a physical injury but typically these guys have to get over a mental hump.

But I'm more dumbfounded by the selection of a QB in the second round and then trading out of the third to accumulate more picks.

Are these rookies really going to make the team?

I agree with the mental aspect 1000% but we actually have a record of him going through this process. The result, came back stronger like Rocky Balboa in the 12th round.

I also love his comments in reference to his injury, talks about being able to focus his downtime on reshaping his entire physique. He seems like a maniac when it comes to fitness and his approach. I'm willing to bet on this kid. Especially one that goes as hard on the field as he. His motor doesn't run cold.

I have no clue how good or bad JG will be, but I could do without the whining from people who:

1) wonder why we spent a 2nd rounder on a back-up QB, as if that was the sole aim of the F.O.
2) have "never heard of this guy."

I can't believe anyone who cares enough to post in a draft thread doesn't care enough to know that Jimmy Garoppolo was a consensus 1st/2nd rounder. And the idea that AJ McCarronn is preferable? Holy cow. Mettenberger maybe, but people, please -- step away from the keyboard.

Thank god didn't rain check a beer with 2 girls to watch this ****.

What a waste.

Grade E for the Patriots in this draft so far.

You keep bringing up his two ACL injuries yet somehow forgot he already came back from an ACL injury and played two seasons. So he's been over what ever imaginary hump you are talking about.

As for them making the team when was the last time draft picks didn't make the team?

"This kid's got a quick release, good arm and is very athletic. Tom Brady, at his age, and Ryan Mallett's uncertain status forces this pick. This is an insurance policy for an unknown future. He's an interesting quarterback. He makes every throw. The feet and quick release are what stand out." -- Mike Mayock

Not to rain on the Jimmy Hate-Fest. But there are some analysts that see the positives in the JG selection.

The odds are never good for late round picks.. That's long been established. But the fact is that the Patriots have actually had better than average luck with them.
Thus making my point, that it would be better to use the 3rd pick. I understand giving enough tries some luck happens, but that is a gamble. Our whole draft, so far, has been gambles. Will Easley longevity hold up? Will Mallet be traded? Will Jimmy be Tom's successor? We need a few safer picks at some point.

Assuming they target the areas they deemed as deep? Yes. Brandon Coleman or Martavious Bryant makes this team. Coke Lyerla makes this team. Blake Annen makes this team, a developmental athlete/OL makes this team we could Use more speed, more youth on the line.
