Brandon Thomas goes to SF. FML.

49ers strike again. thomas is a stud. they'll redshirt him this year. will be a starter next year

Ok then...Brady was 6th rounder and Seymour a 1st who was seen as a reach, how about that? :)

Cassel had a fantastic season when Brady was hurt and netted the Pats the 34th pick in 2009, that to me is a clear-cut value-based HR. Mesko might have been a stretch, but three seasons of elite punting for a 5th is great value.

Seymour was a 1st round pick, not a 6th they jumped on in round 1.

Come on.

Look, trading up, trading down, staying the same.... they all work. They all fail. It's what you do with the picks. The article acknowledged that, even while acting as if there were only one right way.

Honestly, is anyone shocked? Bill always trades back in the draft.

Actually, to that point, Bill had traded UP more than he'd traded down.. Now it's even. 17 each way..

49ers are ****ing crazy. Also how do they keep trading crap draft picks for starting WRs? Boldin could be chalked up to nepotism but Stevie for a 4th next year?

Good God.

No wonder SF is one of the best teams in the NFL. They have already had a great draft and still have two 4's, two 5's a 6 and two 7's.

Lyra

Sure but if you draft him as a te and he thinks it's a qb. Well not good.
I doubt BB comes to you, tells you he thinks you can help the team doing X and you snub him by demanding to do Y. I mean he isn't a 1st round pick. He could easily be selling insurance if he isn't careful. Attitude/coach-ability matters when your drafted late.

We are in a "win now" mode and so far this draft has been extremely contradicting.

What in the world is going on?

There is a variety of reasons.. One of which is that from 2004-2010 San Fran sucked. And it's only been recently that they've been using the draft to refill their roster, letting over-priced free agents go and not signing free agents, and trading away decent players who no longer fit the new model to add to their picks..They've made numerous trade downs the last couple of years to build up the number of picks they had. Then, you add in the comp picks they've gotten from letting guys such as Goldson, Ginn, etc walk and it's easy to build up picks. The Pats were like that from 2009-2011.

I loved the Easley pick but not the QB pick. But god forbid being negative about it. No one here knows if the guy is our future or another early drafted QB who will be a nothing. I am not overly critical of the pick but I am dismayed by the lack of urgency on offense. We are moving onto next season with a very similar if not the same offense.
I'm fine with that if the defense is improved, which it definitely will be.

What makes you think the Patriots are in a "WIN NOW" mode? The contracts they gave to Revis and Wilfork?

No...he'll be a 6' 2" turtle with a 3/4's delivery. You're dreaming if you think anybody is going to reteach this guy how to throw over the top. He's a flashy college QB like 10,000 other flashes. If they wanted a project why not wait until the fourth round? So now, in this draft that has been riveting with all the talent going to our opponents, we select a "maybe if healthy" and a project, AND move DOWN out of the third.
If anything, I'd have thought they'd at least address the move TE in one of the first three rounds. Instead, we go to the "Stockpile Middle Picks" strategy again.
