Pats draft QB Jimmy Garropolo from Eastern Illinois in the 2nd round

Actually has a quick release, but not a strong arm. If you're looking for 60 yard bombs, you're gonna see a lot of under throws.

we dont have any WR that runs a 60 Bomb so that is fine. We run short route passing offense and our WRs and OCoord invented the rub play. The last time we ran 60 yrd routes was with Randy Moss. Jimmy G is the perfect QB for this offense and I think it was a smart pick

on a side note, I am a Notre Dame fan and want us to pick up Nix. He has slipped this far and that tells me teams do not rate him that high. This is a long draft folks so lets wait until its over to analyze it. I still think we trade Mallet to the Texans for CJ Fed and a future pick. You heard it here first

I agree, think he is going a bit senile. Such a strange pick. So many needs, and he sits there watching the best WRs and TEs go, without even attempting to trade up. 2013 may go down as his last good draft. Very odd draft by BB so far. Not even worth paying attention to. That being said, Garrapolo has a super quick release, passed for a zillion yards against high school kids, and had 53 TDs and only 9 INTs (once again vs HS kids).

How do you know that the Pats didn't attempt to trade up? Please, enlighten everyone on what inside information that you have to confirm this..

Garropolo didn't play against HS kids, but keep spewing that ignorance.. Shows that you are worth listening to..

this is like 2007 the roster is already filled with the starters and most of the backups and its not a good Draft if your picking at the bottom of each round so they are going all WTF picks hoping some of them can be starters or at lest backups in a few years

Watching a great GM like Bill Belichick at this point in his career, is like watching Willie Mays play for the Mets. He's really not a very good GM any longer. Avg. at best.

Not thrilled with this pick. I'm not a boom-or-bust-team-building advocate, but since Brady has like 3 years left, it would be nice to try to load up at least somewhat for a final run. I can see not mortaging the entire future, but a little home equity loan would be nice.

CBS Sports gives the Garropolo pick a C-. Have to agree, terrible pick. Window is closing quickly on Brady's chances. All offseason we were complaining Brady has no weapons. He still has the same weapons. This is a crime they aren't giving one of the greatest QBs of all time some good weapons. Deepest WR draft of alltime and we draft a cripple and a QB who won't matter for years. This draft gets an F so far. What a shame.

as much as I don't like this pick you have to look at it this way BB is not going to pay more then a rookie contract for a backup QB and from what we seen from Mallett in the preseason his not worth re-signing so they get there cheap back...now does this help the team now no but lets face it no player out of the top 10 was going to help the team this year anyways,

I still don't care for the pick but it helps keep the backup QB cheap and young so it is what it is

I completely called this.

"Garoppolo in the 2nd"

And you all laughed at me. Told you so.

You guys need to think... the greatest advantage we've got when it comes to grooming Brady's successor is... BRADY. We need Brady around for a few years to teach his successor everything he knows. Sooner the better, just in case it doesn't work out. Clearly Mallett was not going to be the guy, so the Pats had to find the next project.

I like this choice. Give him time with Brady to learn what it takes to be elite.

If there's one thing we've learned from Brady over the years, it's that the QB is massively more valuable than anyone else.

Don't get it.

2014 - Brady at QB
2015 - Brady at QB
2016 - Brady at QB
2017 - Garropalo takes over
2018 - Garropalo leaves for more money

Wow! Bellicheck truly is a moron at drafting. I really hope people will begin to see how bad average he is as a GM finally. This is the dumbest pick in the Bellicheck era I've seen yet. A QB when Mallet is here and has ridden the pine for years? Get some freaking guys to improve the team you have now to win another SB for your HOF QB and your HOF DT. Good lord this was stupid.

Good call, because you can't resign a player after his rookie deal expires. Maybe trade him for a bag of footballs now so we can at least get something for him, right?

Garropalo gets a new contract in 2017 with the money freed up from Brady retiring.

Take a look at draft analysis that spans the past decade, or fifteen years. You're so wrong on this it isn't even funny, Pats have the most starters, most Pro Bowlers drafted in the NFL while Belichick's been running the show. But I guess the important thing is the fans being happy with every pick on draft night, right?

Still talking Mallett trade with Houston on NFL Draft.......maybe a swap this year and a pick in next draft ?

or maybe they are beating a dead horse :)

As I said after the Easley pick last night, have you watched this draft? How many players really went where they supposed to? How many had 4 safeties in the 1st? Marcus Smith in the 1st? I never understand how fans can watch two full rounds of a draft go nothing like any mock draft and still with confidence say a player would have lasted until later.

Landry went the very next pick so that's almost exactly where he should have gone. Also, I would rather have player that could help Brady this year instead of having another guy that Brady is going to mentor for a few years.

I'm beginning to think Tom pissed Bill off at some point. "YOU, NO LINEMEN TO PROTECT YOU, NO NOTHING, YOU GET NOTHING!"
