This is what my 2nd comment on Mallett, good one?

Yeah you're right, his play in the preseason isnt indicitive of how good he is lmao. What else should I be basing his skill off of?
How about BB keeping him on the game day active 46 for the last 3 years?

Latest Up to the Minute Report: Patriots to trade Mallet, but might not either.

According to sources..

combination of not having anyone else and a little BB arrogance. He took the kid in the 3rd round he wasnt going to cut him after 1 or 2 seasons.

Mallet only unseats Brady if Brady goes into major decline. I'd rather not see that, thanks.

Mallett unseats Brady if he is a better option for the team, taking into account performance, cost, and age. I know you think Mallett is not very good. I disagree with your assessment. And while many here have deified him, it is clear that Tom at this point needs weapons, protection and defense to win a championship. You give those elements to many QBs in this league and they will compete to win championships too (Joe Flacco says hi). I suspect the Brady/Mallett gap is not as big as you think, and and narrowing daily.

Tom Brady is, at worst, a top 5 starter in the NFL.

Ryan Mallett is, at best, a top 5 backup in the NFL.

The gap is huge.

You guys remember how yesterday I was saying some people in here have just lost their minds with regards to Mallett? Ya this is the sort of thing I was talking about.

The gap between Brady and Mallett when he was drafted was about the size of the Pacific Ocean at high tide. Since then it has narrowed to roughly the size of the Pacific Ocean at low tide.

What you pass off as authoritative, is just your opinion of their relative abilities. My opinion differs. In reality, the size of the gap is unknown to anyone outside the organization. Many (all?) on the outside would have said the gap was enormous between Bledsoe in Brady coming out of camp in 2001, when we know now that the coaching staff viewed them as virtual equals.

Per Ed Werder, Mallett is not available for trade.

IMO, this is great news. I think he will be a very good QB after these 3 years behind Brady.
Just about everyone not named Tom Brady is available for trade. If Mallett is not trade it is because they did not get a good enough offer.

You could not be more wrong.
Many, though a minority, felt that Brady totally outperformed Bledsoe in 2001 training camp. I was there at smithfield and it was obvious even to non-professionals.

Apparently we can look forward to Ryan Mallett unseating a healthy Tom Brady somewhere around week 6.

If that's before the trade deadline maybe we can get Clowney and Watt for Tom!

I heard BB turned down #33 and a First next year from Houston

Good at what?

Holding a clipboard and wearing a ball cap backwards?

I guess sometimes people forget that if Brady retires in two years Mallett will be a 28 years old 6th season QB that has never played a meaningful Down in the NFL

Okay, I'm opposed to trading Mallett. If we keep him we have a viable backup who has been in the system for three years. If we trade him then we have no backup QB and a 37yo HoF QB in a year in which we seem to be expanding the envelope of acceptable decisions in service of winning now, plus probably an additional 3rd round pick, and we would require another backup QB.
