Again I have to ask...

Why can't people here be bothered to read? Feel free to find where I said he can't come back strong.
The new board is messing me up. Then you go on top of that an make some chick your avatar....dude we need emails for this stuff. I don't know who I'm talking too....

For a team with its two best DTs coming off major injuries, this is a needless risk.

Deus being Deus. No surprise there.

I can't wait for his "Even if Easly becomes a Hall of Famer, it was a bad pick because he was too much of a risk for the first round."

you had a good look at the Seahawks board? I would bet good money he was going there at 32.

I'd have been fine with BB letting them take the risk. If Seattle had wanted him badly enough, they could have traded up for him.

CBS Sports gives us an A. This is a high risk high reward pick, and I'm digging it. It's 2014, people come back from ACLs in 2 or 3 months, and Easley is now living in the top medical city in the world. We got this.

Dominique Easley | DT, FloridaThis is a terrific pick. He would have been a top-10 pick if not for injuries to both knees. He will be a star -- if healthy

Bleacher Report. Nuff said.

Positives: Quick first step if healthy.
Negatives: Undersized and may need a red shirt year.

I don't think I'd be hanging my hat on that.

It's not who, it's when. That projection was written before Easley's outstanding workout -- recent writeups all say 2nd with a chance of 1st.

So you're saying we reached, at least the way I read it.

I really don't feel comfortable drafting a guy in the first round that shows up with two knee braces. What's the odds on him playing out his rookie contract?

Well said. I think we get a little too wrapped up in the fact that a late 1st is a "1st rounder." Whenever you find yourself thinking "That would have been a great pick if they had managed to trade down just a bit," then the pick is fine.

I had him pegged as a second rounder, but ahead of 62. He's not my favourite prospect but as you noted, for those who paid attention, the Patriots interest in him was becoming clear. Considering that he has an elite first step, I find some of the over the top angst about this pick bizarre. I was never as positive about Easley as some, but I can certainly see how he helps this team and why they drafted him.

I can't wait for his "Even if Easly becomes a Hall of Famer, it was a bad pick because he was too much of a risk for the first round."

He shat all over the Collins pick last year, too. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't discuss that much these days.

Deus doesn't like the pick. So he is officially a bust. /end thread.

Ahh.... same old Rob. The Irony is just laying about all over the place.

1.) I've been far better at calling players, for good or bad, than have you.

2.) I didn't call Easley a bust.

Other than that, though....

Well, other than that, you've still got nothing.

I'd have been fine with BB letting them take the risk. If Seattle had wanted him badly enough, they could have traded up for him.
Hmm ... What if BB and the entire Patriots scouting/training/medical staff concluded, after careful study, that Easley is NOT a risk because of his knees? What then?

I don't get why people are so quick to despair over this pick. Consensus is that this kid was considered top talent until his second injury. However the know it alls in this thread must have better knowledge of his knee situation than the Pats do....

It's a risk for sure but it has an equal chance of being a terrific pick. If he can prove some durability it would make for a wildly talented defense.

Here is an article from NESN last week saying the Pats would have competing for Easley in round one:

So there were other teams that thought Easley was worth a first round pick. Let's stop acting like it was a major reach.

Mike is right check out this thread over on FieldGuils (Seahawks Site) -> http://www.sbnation.com/users/trippsixxes

If there's substance to that Mallett rumour and we get 33, then we're in a really good position. Get ASJ and Richburg/Bitonio and I call that a win. And at this point, considering what's off the board (the best DBs for example), I start to get interested in someone like Carlos Hyde or Kony Ealy if we have an extra pick. I wouldn't rule out Trent Murphy either.

So when Logan Mankins tore his other ACL in 2011, that made a big difference to you?

Popping the ACL almost a decade later isn't exactly the same as popping them twice in 3 shortened seasons. Come on, man. Don't be that guy.

He shat all over the Collins pick last year, too. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't discuss that much these days.

Not much to say. The point still stands. Go back and look at the whole season, you'll find I didn't talk about it much at any time.

He shat all over the Collins pick last year, too. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't discuss that much these days.

Yeah, Deus' argument last year to trash the Collins pick was a coverage LBer wasn't a position of need. Yes, because the Pats were so flushed with LBers who could cover. Hell, by the end of last year, the Pats barely had enough LBers to start in a 3-4 defense.
