Ebron may be the consensus #1 TE, but man he drops a ton of passes.

I still like Amaro as a move TE in our offense.

Amaro is an intriguing player. In Feb/March, he was viewed as a sure shot first rounder and the PERFECT fit for what the Patriots were lacking in their offense last year now, after more discussion and review, he has seemed to completely fall off the map (In terms of the Patriots anyway).

I believe a lot of this has to do with the question marks around Gronks health and future. Amaro doesn't seem like he could come in and be the physical force in both the run and pass game that Gronk is (In Amaros defense, few players match Gronk in that aspect, if any). This leads me to believe that the Patriots are more interested in making sure in bringing in a TE that can offset a potential Gronk Loss (to injury and ultimately FA) so players like ASJ , CJF , Niklas and even Joe Don Duncan seem more appetizing.

With that said, I would welcome an Amaro pick only if they chose a second TE relatively soon after (potentially before). Example Amaro/CJF or ASJ/Amaro.

I'm with Ochmed, I want them to draft Amaro to replace Hernandez. Might be able to trade down and get him too. I think at 6'5" 265# 4.74 40 he might be a little big for that role though.

If they don't go TE early on Amarro or ASJ I'm more than ok with Richard Rodgers from Califonia. Can't block very well yet but he did line up as a TE and as a Wr so he does have a nice route tree to work with.

If this is true, this might change things:

However, on Friday, he got medical clearance and went through an individual workout with the Jets. At 6-foot-6 and 271 pounds, he ran a blazing 4.56 in the 40-yard dash, with a 37.5-inch vertical jump, NFL scout Dave-Te’ Thomas told Packer Report on Saturday.

If that's the case then it's 29 if you want him and risking losing him with a trade back.

I think there is a real likelihood Sefarian-Jenkins is going to go earlier than expected because of his athleticism and the premium teams are putting on having two starting TE's. If the Patriots really want him they will have to use #29 to get him imo.

I'm not buying it. If it was an individual workout, then the two parties there were ASJ and the Jets. I'll never believe times from a player or his agent, and the Jets have plenty of incentive to keep a good workout a secret or leak a report exaggerating a workout, but no incentive to tell anybody about a truly exceptional workout.

If there is one thing Bill won't stand for, it's someone who won't take coaching and direction well. ASJ is by all accounts someone who rubs people the wrong way and is difficult to coach. He doesn't seem like a Belichick pick in the 1st.

People question Easley because of a comment he made about not liking to watch football. But he was a team captain at Florida, well respected by coaches and a tone setter on defence. I'll be happy to miss out on ASJ, even with this rumoured workout. Plus its the season of misdirection - I'm not even sure we can trust the source.

I do not think that any of these TE are a bargain in round2. I would pick Hagerman at # 29. In round 2 #62,I would go after one of the big WR .Probably Benjamin at 6-5 240 from FSU.I would then take Lynch TE 6-5 258 Georgia at #130.
Both of these players,could be used as we were using Hernandez and Gronk.add S Vereen #93 Minn,RB Gaffney #140 Stanford,OG/C Bodine #198 N.Car, OC/G Linsley #206 OSU and WR Enunwa #244 Nebraska 6-2 225 4:45

I too, think that ASJ could go higher than projected, and my concern is that if we don't take him at 29 he could be long gone by the time we pick again at 62. I am guessing that he could really go anywhere from about 30-50.

My problem with Amaro: He is not fast enough, quick enough, or elusive enough to replicate AH or be a move tight end. He is essentially the size of an inline tight end that can't play on the line or block.

His combine numbers were pretty awful; for a pure receiving tight end who adds nothing in terms of blocking to run a 4.74 40 and 7.42 3 cone is down right ugly. I would like to see 4.6s and 6.9-7.1 3 cone for a high pick at move tight end.

His tape was also pretty unspectacular which makes me believe he was a product of the huge passing numbers the Tech system creates.

Give me ASJ/Niklas/CJF and Burton/Thomas later on and I ll be good.

Niklas early, Jensen late.

Yeh, good point.

I think the other issue is, philosophically, it seems BB wants to spend 1st round picks on three or four down players, which Amaro is likely not to be because he won't be able to be involved in the running game until he skills up his blocking. Therefore he likely won't last till the late 2nd or early 3rd where his position in the scheme would value him. That was part of what made the AHern pick so amazing at the time, because 3rd to 4th round is where the correct valuation of this position seems to be in BB's mind and they got a great player at the position. If only...

I believe Gronkowski ran a 4.75 ? He pretty fast enough. What I like about him (Amaro) doesn't always translate to numbers. The guy is confident and hungry, he wants to be the best. he wants the ball in key situations. I don't know what video you are watching, everytime I watch film of him I'm very impressed, he just knows how to get open, almost like a big receiver, AND, though not a great blocker, hes good enough. I really think he'd be an amazing addition to Gronk, AND, a very tough red zone matchup. I think he can be better than AHern. I'd be thrilled even if we took him at 29.

I don't know where he may drafted next week but this guy is moving up and should be on our radar as an AH replacement if we don't draft one of the more well known TE: Florida's Trey Burton.

At the combine, Burton measured in at 6’2 and 224 pounds and ran a 4.62 40-yard dash.

He started as a QB at Florida, but soon became a Wildcat specialist. He’s lined up at RB, H-back, TE and WR and ran with the tight ends during the NFL scouting combine.

In 4 seasons with the Gators, Burton had 153 carries for 720 career yards and 16 touchdowns, made 107 receptions for 976 yards and four touchdowns and completed 11 of 17 passes for 103 yards with no touchdowns and one interception.

Very impressive ! We know how much BB loves guys who can do it all. Hopefully Burton and Dri Archer wind up as Pat's picks.

The more I think about this TE class the more I get confused. So I'd rather not out think and confuse myself and prefer to go safe and take Fiedorowicz in the 3rd/4th rather than potentially blow a 1st/2nd on ASJ/Niklas/etc. when there are other positions with more certainty we can take a look at in the 1st/2nd rounds.

I have felt all along to not take a TE until round 3 at the earliest. I realize the impact and need for a TE on the Patriots, but I think there are more pressing needs to address first.

Gronk ran a 4.68 40 and a 7.18 3 cone, both significantly better than Amaro.

Burton is a late round project binkie of mine. Add another 10 lbs on to him and give him an entire year of working with an NFL TE coach and he has the potential to be great.
