I'm assuming you traded a 3rd rounder for an additional 4th, 5th &6th?

Four times, the most recent being Damien Woody in 1999.

None in the Belichick era, though in that time they have drafted three tackles and two guards (both first overall for the club) that high.

While it is true that BB has never drafted a center that high, it is also true that he never drafted a kicker higher than the 7th (prior to 2006), or two tight ends (prior to 2010), etc.; past performance does not necessarily predict future results.

There may be no historical trend for Belichick to draft early at the position - but there also hasn't been any need either, with Woody ('99-'02) and Dan Koppen ('03-'12) making the idea of drafting a center a low priority for a very long time. There is a need now that has not been present since Woody became incapable of delivering a shotgun snap, and Koppen was drafted (albeit in the 5th round) in 2003 to replace Woody and Mike Compton.
I kind of think that if they thought that Wendell was so terrible that they would not have resigned him at all, but you could also say they are just trying to make sure they do not NEED to draft a center and are planning on trying to draft a better center. You are right though, just because they have not drafted a center highly before does not mean they would not do it now. I guess I just view DE and TE as higher priorities than center.

Looks like there was a trade in there somewhere, but I would be VERY happy with that draft. I worry about Lynch being a headcase, but his talent can't be denied. He'd be major value in the 6th. Colvin would need to be stashed away for a year before he can play, but I think he'll be a stud if that knee checks out in the future. I would like to see the team do more than Deandre Coleman at DT. McCullers would be a better project at that spot but you would have to have a third to get him.

It looks like Tennessee gave up a 4th, 5th and 6th for the Patriots 3rd in that one. Some very nice picks too.
