Where Does BB Double-Dip in 2014?

O-line....

That's what I think. I'm calling Zach Martin to slip to 29 and we take him. Pick up a center around the 6th. Would allow you to cut Connolly. Extend McCourty and and you've almost generated enough space to cover the cost of the rookie class.

And, we'd have the ability to trade for help on the defensive line or wide receiver. And, enough cap space to bring in a pretty decent vet in a trade.

As much as I think they need a double dip at DT/DE and TE I would surely not be disappointed with a Christian Jones /Jordan Tripp dip at LB.

didn't know where to put this but Breer says on twitter that the Pats will prioritise interior O line and D line in the draft as well as try and find a move tight end. Makes sense that we might double dip at G/C and DT then.

ASJ and Bishop Sankey, Washington.

DT

Wilfork and Kelly are both on their way out. Might be both of their last years with the Pats.

So, you would have us carry seven DT's? Perhaps you think that Siliga, Chris Jones and Armstead will be cut?

TE seems most likely; the question is where in the draft.

OL is certainly a possibility. There is need at OG, C and backup OT. Any of Connolly, Wendell and Cannon could be gone in 2015.

My outside shot is at RB (one early and one late). We have exactly zero running backs signed for 2015. I would note that even young running backs sometimes take a year to learn the patriot offense.

O-Line - One pick is for an immediate starter with Marcus Martin, Bryan Stork (could be a real steal if he drops into 4th), Su'a-Filo and the other pick is Brandon Thomas or Bodine for 2015. This years draft is loaded with OG/Centers and the Pats can land two solid starters without using a first round pick. The Pats may be able to get Su'a-Filo in the 2nd round and Remington winner Stork in the fourth and the Pats would have a great O-Line and still get a first round DT, third round TE and fourth round DE.
Double dip from the same team. Notre Dame with Nix/Truitt and Niklas. FSU - Stork and ILB Jones. Stanford - Yankey and Skov.

I don't think its crazy to think that at least 1 of Jones, Siliga or Armstead don't make the roster. I also think if you plan on carrying 6 DT's for the season you can't afford to go into camp with just 6 quality players at the position because injuries are inevitable, especially with Wilfork and Kelly both getting older and coming off major injuries. If having to cut a quality player is the worst thing about double dipping at DT then I will happily take it.

I'd also add that all of Wilfork, Armstead, and Kelly are coming off of some serious injuries, so it's certainly not a lock that ALL 3 contribute as much as we hope, even though 2/3 seems to be reasonable. As someone else has pointed out, there's also the reality that none of them are locks to be on the team next year for 2015 too.

Of course, I believe that Bill Belichick has stated that he sees Armstead as primarily a DE--although I may be incorrect just the same. I thought that I had remembered us talking about in the past, with Belichick stating that he sees Armstead cut out for the position of DE when reporters asked him about it several times.

The fact that we should expect additional competition at DT with Joe Vellano and Chris Jones shouldn't exactly be a head scratcher. Those 2 (or at least ONE of them for sure) will need to earn their jobs to beat out hopefully better competition that should be coming in. Like any other position, the object will be to add a bunch of players and see who sticks; not only now, but for the future as well.

I can definitely see them double up on interior OL. Both Wendell and Connolly are players that we in my opinion should try to replace. Mankins had a very good year as a run blocker and an OK year as a pass blocker, but he is getting older and his cap hit is big. If we could get a top RG in the draft and a good center it would be easier to move on from Mankins after this season.

I see that some say DT. I have DT as one of our top needs. But I don't know if we really need to double dip. We have Chris Jones who did good as a pass rusher from the inside and we have Siliga who did good as run stopper. We also have Armstead who is a bit of an unknown, but one that have potential.

With both Wilfork and Kelly coming of injuries and being on the wrong side of 30 I see a need for a top DT. But I don't know if we really need 2 as I think that we have young guys that could rotate on the 2nd DT spot.

OLine
TE
LB
QB (taking 2nd QB to play TE)

OL, TE or DT/DE.

Assuming pick availability, I could see the Patriots adding Hageman and McCullers at DT, Richburg, Martin, Swanson at CE and Thomas at OG, and Amaro, Seferian-Jenkins, Fiedorowicz and Lynch at TE.

I'd be happy to see the Patriots trade down from 29 and accumulate picks similar to the 2013 Vikings trade. There is a lot of depth in this draft between picks 40-100.

I say we draft both a Y (Gronk-like) and F (Hernandez-like).

Didn't catch this, before. I just want to take a moment to applaud!! :D

Most fans don't seem to distinguish between the classic Tight End and what I call the Flex End.

They're two very different Positions with two very different Skill Sets and with two very different Impacts on the Field, as indicated by Gronkowski & Hernandez constantly sharing the Field back in the day. We shouldn't call a Flex End a Tight End any more than we call an Offensive Guard an Offensive Tackle. ;)

Offensive line. The draftees are there. Take them.

OL is certainly a fine position to consider a double dip. Anything in the trenches for me should be strongly considered. I think both the DL and OL are areas that we should explore that possibility.

I would enjoy a draft that has a minimum of 2 DL and 2 OL.

No real telling what BB will do but here is my hope:

RB: Seastrunk: Great in the passing game as well
RB:DeAnthony Thomas: Weapon

TE: Amaro:move
TE:CFED: Beast
