I too, think that the Lyerla comments are a bit overblown, at least in totally wiping him of our board as a low-risk 7th round pick, anyway.

That said, I can also see why it pisses people off as well. I just don't see it myself as being worthy of taking him off the board altogether. Luckily, we have a highly paid veteran coach/GM who knows much more info about the kid, so we'll have to trust his decision.

I would be willing to bet that some of those kids wore Patriots jerseys and had them hanging in their closets, and some of the parents were Patriot fans as well. Imo it would be incredibly insensitive and offensive to bring in Lyerla or any other player who espoused the "Newtown was a Hoax" conspiracy theories the nutbag gunlovers are spreading around.

You be the GM.

Using a site that lists draft prospect rankings such as DraftTek or CBS Sports (or another of your choice), list the players and positions you would like to see the Patriots use their draft picks on. Your choice doesn't have his ranking fit exactly with the Pats' selection, but try to keep it real - say within five slots for the first round, ten slots for the 2nd and third, and fifteen slots after that.

If you want to get creative and include trades, go for it; similarly, make the hypothetical trade realistic by using a trade value chart.

You don't necessarily have to do a full seven rounds, but try to make at least more than one selection so we can see the order of your preference by position.

As a reminder, the Patriots own the following draft picks:
  • 1st round, 29th pick, 29th overall
  • 2nd round, 30th pick, 62nd overall
  • 3rd round, 29th pick, 93rd overall
  • 4th round, 30th pick, 130th overall
  • 4th round, 40th pick, 140th overall (compensatory pick; cannot be traded)
  • 6th round, 22nd pick, 198th overall
  • 6th round, 30th pick, 206th overall
  • 7th round, 29th pick, 244th overall
Zack Martin
Joel Bitonio
CJ Fedorowicz
Whatever OLB is left
Whatever OLB is left2
Coleman TE/WR
Whatever RB is left
Whatever DB is left

I think the forum is now fully aware of your position on Colt Lyerla.

Save yourself a lot of anger, and us a lot of wasted by time by moving on to another subject.

Lol wow...no just prospects I like n 1st or early 2nd rd & only expect to get 1 of them if ne.....

Why the "dislike" and "wow" message from my comment? Like I said, that'd be one hell of a draft for sure, but since we were all copying and pasting from the draft simulator, I was a bit confused as to how you came up with those--that's all.

It wasn't meant as anything sarcastic or any kind of personal attack or anything, so apologies if you took it the wrong way. I don't roll that way unless provoked first.

I certainly have some of the same preferences as you do. I just wasn't sure if you were advocating having us move up for 3 top 50 picks, or what you were specifically saying.

Fair enough, my position is clear, and there is zero chance they bring him in anyways.

I wouldn't worry about it SUP, the Patriots have the #29 and he had them taking a guy in the top 15, a guy in the top 30, and a guy in the top 45 with no explanation as to how they would do that.

Now, after they trade Mallett to Houston for the first overall anf then trade back with Cleveland for their two first they should be able to get it done and then some, as they will then trade their #29 back and add a top #pick a high third, only because they make the deal with Oakland who is just being generous, as always.

I'm guessing there was a misunderstanding, and he thought I was being a harsh smartass. Hopefully, the position is clearer now. I was just a bit surprised and didn't understand where he was getting those players from, that's all.

You can always count on OAK to make us look good somehow, so anything's possible ;)

Without a whole lot of thought, here goes nothing:

1.29 ---- DT Ra'Shede Hageman, Minnesota
2.62 ---- C Weston Richburg, Colorado State
3.93 ---- TE C.J. Fiedorowicz, Iowa
4.130 --- SS Craig Loston, LSU
4.140 --- DE Brent Urban, Virginia
6.198 --- RB Rajion Neal, Tennessee
6.206 --- G Charles Leno, Boise State
7.244 --- TE Marcel Jensen, Fresno State

I just think thats way too early to draft a center.

so then it can never happen...that's some really astute strategy

I still think its kind of high, I would rather take a DE or TE in that spot and draft a center later.

Using first-pick.com managed to get this:
Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 1 (HOU): Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota (A-)
Round 2 Pick 30: Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State (A)
Round 3 Pick 29: C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa (A-)
Round 4 Pick 32 (SEA): A.J. McCarron, QB, Alabama (B+)
Round 4 Pick 40 (COMP): Andre Williams, RB, Boston College (A)
Round 5 Pick 32 (SEA): Kevin Pierre-Louis, OLB, Boston College (A-)
Round 6 Pick 22: Dri Archer, WR, Kent State (A)
Round 6 Pick 30: Kevin Norwood, WR, Alabama (A)
Round 6 Pick 32 (SEA): Brandon Thomas, OG, Clemson (C)
Round 7 Pick 1 (HOU): Matt Patchan, OT, Boston College (A)
Round 7 Pick 29: Nikita Whitlock, DE, Wake Forest (C+)

BC is the new Rutgers for this draft :p traded back twice to end up with #33 which is why I had Seattle's 4th, 5th & 6th and Houston's 2nd and 7th.

I like this a lot, but I preferred Martin (bigger) over Richburg at Center and No I don't think that it's too early for a C. I see Center as needing an immediate upgrade. I also like Dri Archer, but I took DeAnthony Thomas late in my mock who I see as a similar explosive guy, but as a RB/KR. . You've it all but a SS. Very good draft.

The hardest thing about using first-pick is seeing how the AI pick. Sometimes Hageman goes top 20, for example.

I did want Martin but he'd gone by the time that pick came around so the options were Richburg or Swanson and it might have been a bit early to pick Swanson. De'Anthony Thomas was still on the board when I picked Matt Patchan in the 7th but an extra OL is a bigger need than an extra RB.

have the patriots ever taken a center that high?

Four times, the most recent being Damien Woody in 1999.

None in the Belichick era, though in that time they have drafted three tackles and two guards (both first overall for the club) that high.

While it is true that BB has never drafted a center that high, it is also true that he never drafted a kicker higher than the 7th (prior to 2006), or two tight ends (prior to 2010), etc.; past performance does not necessarily predict future results.

There may be no historical trend for Belichick to draft early at the position - but there also hasn't been any need either, with Woody ('99-'02) and Dan Koppen ('03-'12) making the idea of drafting a center a low priority for a very long time. There is a need now that has not been present since Woody became incapable of delivering a shotgun snap, and Koppen was drafted (albeit in the 5th round) in 2003 to replace Woody and Mike Compton.

Right. Since you are only drafting the C to play this year and your G is an injury red shirt this year, you needed to go physically available O line player.

Just had a fun round with the Simulator:

29
ILB MOSLEY, CJ
ALABAMA
62
C MARTIN, MARCUS
SOUTHERN CAL
93
DT EASLEY, DOMINIQUE
FLORIDA
130
OLB TRIPP, JORDAN
MONTANA
140
TE FIEDOROWICZ, CJ
IOWA

Even though I took an LB in the first, I couldn't resist Tripp at 130. Seriously, would anyone here be upset with a draft that looked like this for the first four rounds?

Well, he kinda took a C once. LS Jake Ingram Rd 6 in 2009 (#198). I'll eat my hat if he picks a LS in this draft with 2 already on the roster, but I usually were straw hats so it's at least digestable. You never know with Bill. He's a sly one.:)
