Pats 2014 Schedule

There was nothing presumptuous about it, as your response verifies. You're trying to create an equivalence between something that's based completely on a pre-established formula and something that's not. You're even trying to claim victim status in the process with "10 days rest <...", which is ludicrous in context.
telling someone you don't even know what they are trying to claim is the definition of presumptuous... and i'm not creating anything, it's already created... you keep focusing on how the schedule came about, i'm just speaking about the schedule itself...regardless of how the schedule came about, for this one issue, a certain aspect favored one team and another aspect favored the other, and i was simply bringing to light the other team's favor in that very small scenario... that was all...

in any event, i understand your point, my mistake probably was expecting any form of concession to my point...

but in any event its no biggie either way... good luck this season, look forward to our match up...

This is an anonymous online messageboard. If you can't figure out the problem with your "presumptuous" argument, given that fact coupled with your posts, I don't know what to tell you. As you wrote:

well you're close... i'm not saying there's a moral equivalence, only that there is an equivalence...

in the follow up, my so-called "presumptuousness" ends up more accurately called my "correctly grasping the meaning of the post".

As for your point, it's not that you're not getting a concession. It's that it's irrelevant to what the poster was posting out, which is, to use the quote:

it looks like the NFL is trying to put it's over-sized thumb on the scale
.

Since there's no scale to have any thumb put on when it comes to the predetermined formulaic stuff, your attempt at an equivalence was doomed to fail. That's why I suggested the "oh, well, too bad" approach as an alternative response.

So I am %99 sure I am going to Lambeau and 50/50 I might follow them to San Diego. If I don't do SD maybe Buffalo.

Anyone else planning and scheming?

Looks like a 19-0 schedule to me.

100% i will be in Lambeau with my brother in law who is a Packers fan. Bringing the long underwear for that one.

Might make a family trip/shopping trip around the Vikings game in Sept.

I love when the Patriots come by the NFC North. My first Patriots game was in Minneapolis in '96.

This isn't Patriots related, but I am looking to go to SD-AZ on Monday, September 8. Works out perfect since I won't miss any Pats games.

Dolphins get the Patriots in the heat of the day to start off the season, but the Patriots can't even get a 4pm time on their game in case of colder weather during week 15?

That sucks.

We're nitpicking a bit if we think the league avoided an earlier time to appease the Dolphins.

Starting the season in the heat of Miami has happened before - they don't get the advantage you'd think as the team is used to playing in the heat and humidity of August up here. November weather in New England - even at 1 pm, can be quite an advantage playing against a Florida team

That many away games is tough to start the season, and bear in mind that no Belichick team peaks that early - so there could be a surprise loss early but that home schedule coming into the bye is nice!

If I win the lottery I'll move to Boston for 6 months. If I get a big win at the casino/sports betting, I'll go on holiday to Boston for a bit. If none of these things happen I'll stay at home and be sad, then happy when Brady makes Aqib Talib look like a high school back up DT in Foxboro

First, the league does do requests (though I'm not saying that they did any in this instance). Second, I've lived in both Fla and NE, and the advantage is quite real, even in the summer months.

Looks like there will be no Patriots/Giants FOX61 affiliate (Connecticut/parts of Western Massachusetts) conflicts this year where they end up airing the Giants over us.

Week 8: vs Bears (1pm - FOX) [Giants on Bye Week]
Week 12: vs Lions (1pm - FOX) [Giants play SNF vs Cowboys]

Most years there aren't, but the last 2 seasons (2012 vs Cardinals, 2013 vs Bucs) the Patriots had a game not shown on this affiliate due to the Giants being on Fox at the same time.

Yes the NFL does. Teams can submit 3 dates they can not play at home. And 3 start time requests for specific home games against specific teams. The 3 non home game dates are always honored, but the start times the try but can't always make it work.

I prefer starting with a bunch on the road. The team is well-rested in September so let them travel at that time.

At this point, I doubt anyone will be surprised if Pit makes the switch.

To be honest, Deus, the general consensus here in PIT from the fans and sportswriters is that it will take a pretty bad effort from MAF to get pulled, particularly since they don't really have anything behind him like last season. Of course that could happen at some point, but I think this back/forth exchange of goals in the first 4 games hasn't really shown that he's been playing badly, although it could be argued that they'd like to see a spark by giving the backup a shot, I suppose. Keep in mind that he made 42 saves tonight though, compared to winning goalie Bobrovsky's 22 saves.

I think it was more of a poor team effort by PIT. Neither one of Crosby or Malkin has scored a goal in the first 4 games. As a matter of fact, Crosby hasn't scored a goal in approx. 10 playoff games now. You'd have to go all the way back to the Ottawa series prior to last year's BOS matchup, where he went scoreless as well throughout the entire series.

Kind of weird how all 4 games saw the team that was down 3-1 come back to see victory. If that wasn't weird enough, all 4 games also have seen the same exact score of 4-3 to boot.

I don't think the NFL schedule makers did any favors to us.

--2 games to start the season on the road, and 3/4 first games on the road.

--Prime time games in week 4, 5, and 7.... (stretch of 3/4 games after the 3/4 away to start the season)

--Playing DEN with them coming off a prior week's TNF game with 10 days rest

--Playing BOTH Cincinnati and Indy with them coming off of byes

--Away games in a 3/4 week stretch at the end of the season as well in weeks 13, 14, and 16

There are obvious positives as well, but these are what stick out as challenging aspects to me.

Yikes, 3 out of 4 on the road to open the season, then weeks 13 & 14, Green Bay then San Diego. Not going to be easy!

I think there are some obvious positives as well, such as our 4/5 home game stretch, and our placement of the bye, but those more challenging aspects are what stood out to me, personally.

Some comments on the comments:

1. I am baffled on an annual basis on why the freakin NFL keeps sending us down to Miami in September, and sending them to NE in December. Clearly someone down at NFL Headquarters scheduling department is a sadist. It would seem SOOOOOOOO much more logical to reverse those 2 games.

2/ Not only would it benefit BOTH teams on the field, but having a Pats game in December, would be better for the Dolphins organization since they'd have a better chance at selling out. Who the F would want to pay a couple of hundred bucks for the pleasure of getting both heat stroke AND cancer sitting in that sauna of a stadium for the better part of a hot and humid 95 degree day....even if you are a Phins fan. On the other hand, there might be thousands of NE fans who'd travel to Miami in December, and thousands more Miami fans who would appreciate going to their stadium in relative comfort to see a big game.

3. Make no mistake. Playing Miami at 1pm at home in early September is as big an advantage for them as having Miami come up here and play us in a snow storm. An 85 degree day in August in Foxboro doesn't come close to what a 90 degree day is in Miami in early September.

4. Having to play 3 of our 1st four games on the road is a very tough way to start the season. A 3-1 start would be a HUGE success. A 2-2 start wouldn't be a shock or concern, at least to me.

5. I hate that Manning gets that 10 day rest before our game with them, but I'd rather have the home game than the rest.

6. Making us travel to Minneapolis AND SD on two consecutive weeks sucks. Those are both long trips.

7. The schedule makers didn't do us any favors, but nothing really onerous. 11-5 would be an excellent result, 10-6 would be OK. Anything over 11 wins would be an exceptional regular season IMHO.

Playing in Miami in September has not happened many times.

Pats have played in Miami in September six times in last 30 seasons:
'83, '84, '94, '96, '00, '11

In October eight times:
'90, '92, '98, '01, '02, '03, '07, '10
