Crucifying and judging a person over a handful of words out of the billion in a lifetime is rather harsh. There is a difference between blatantly denying an actual event, and not believing the reports of an event. Lyerla isn't alone in believing that the Newtown shootings were a conspiracy. People from all walks of life, including university professors don't trust the official reports. While he was stupid, and foolish to publicly say what he did, that doesn't negate he is right to question what is reported to him. Any logical person will digest multiple view points of information to reach their own assessment. Not everything reported is true, we should all know this based on the Boston bombings last year with horrible inaccuracies from CNN and other networks in desperation for views. At the end of the day, this is a football team were talking about, not the cardinal vote for the pope. Lyerla adds depth and incredible value. If he truly is remorseful and willing to be a perfect and model citizen or face being cut at the drop of a dime, he has a niche on the team.
With that said, if he believed it was a conspiracy yet kept it to himself and never let the world know, would you still want him? What if he was your best friend and had the same belief but shared it on a much smaller platform to you and other friends?
