Can I just say that I find it funny that some of the "newer" Boston media are fawning all over their pre-draft sources as if ANY rumor between the Combine and Draft is some kind of rock solid evidence.

The latest is Doug Kyed and his pieces on Michael Sam and the Patriots looking to move up to draft a WR. The piece on moving up to draft a wide receiver totally ignores the fact that the Pats just dropped a bunch of money on Edelman ($6M) , Amendola ($10M), and Lafell ($3M)as well as draft stock in Dobson and Boyce. And that is just in the last YEAR. Think about that. he's invested nearly $20M in the postion and he's going to invest MORE? When the Pats have major issues at DT, OC, and RG and less major ones at LB, and DE?

As for Michael Sam, the Patriots aren't adding a slow-footed OLB who lacks agility when they need faster OLBs with agility who can cover TEs/RBs.

If Kyed had read any of the books by Michael Holley or followed the NFL with any sort of conviction prior to becoming a reporter himself, he'd know that 99.9% of the rumors between the Combine and the Draft are BS and have no foundation in reality. And certainly not trade rumors unless it's within a week or so of the draft and there's a shake-up because one prospect has made some sort of public declaration about his intents..

Michael Freeman is also saying the Pats might move up for an impact receiver. It could be a TE and not WR. It may just be a smoke screen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats made a move for a receiver because there are a lot of impact guys in the first round this year, but I I can see it also just being BS.

I'll be honest. I don't see the Pats moving up for any of the TEs or Receivers. The receivers for the reasons I mentioned, the TEs because I don't believe that any of them are that slam-dunk to make that much of an impact.

Whether by choice or by direction, Kyed's role with NESN right now is essentially to work as an aggregator and rationalizer. Pretty much everything he does is linking to a report by somebody else and then giving reasoning for why that report could be true. It'd be annoying if everybody in the Pats media played the role of skeptic, and Kyed is one that isn't. It's a bit more for casual fans than Kyed's history at NEPD would suggest, but these media outlets need to appeal to casual fans too. Knowing that, I don't have a problem with what he puts out there.

Simply look for these "...". Anything that doesn't include quotation marks is speculation, opinion, or sensationalism.

Also, posters who choose to change the headline or excerpts to make it seem more dramatic, please stop. These apply to both of the aforementioned articles.

Just out of curiousity, who changed the headline or excerpt to make it seem more dramatic?

You can see by the link itself and the title that Kyed is saying WR, not just receiver.

Now I do know others have misquoted the Sam article, but I wasn't focusing on that. I was focusing on how bad of a prospect Sam is for the Patriots.

Good gravy, Ray Clay and others! Let's get down to basics - following the Pats is meant to be fun, it's all about the fun, if it wasn't fun we wouldn't do it. Using this primary piece of logic, I don't understand all your scolding and condescension. If someone wants to get pumped up over a possibly dubious draft report why ruin their fun? There's that word again - fun.

I love the draft. I love all the rumors and leaks and whispers. Who cares if most of it's baloney? 99.9% of what is written on this site could be called baloney because it's all just juiced up fans dropping down their opinions, thoughts, hopes, excitement and dreams. Arbiters of the 'truth' belong elsewhere, like maybe an AP fact-checker office. Here it's fun first and I say pour it on!

The Sam article. Being one of six is not showing the most interest.

So bullsh**t is fun for you. Pointing it out is fun for me.

Can't i have fun?

Did you hear that someone close to Brady says he's lost his passion or the game?

Wouldn't that have been better posted in the thread that dealt directly with the SAM article and not the thread dealing with how the new Boston Media are showing themselves to be puppets?

everybody just wants to be the one with the right guess.....even if it means making 10,000 different guesses and being wrong on 9,999

Yet....you are reading these rumor mongers, you are disseminating the rumor mongers' utterances to a broader audience, and you are discussing said utterances.
On behalf of rumor mongers everywhere, we thank you for your complicity.

You asked this:
"Just out of curiousity, who changed the headline or excerpt to make it seem more dramatic?" I thought in reply to a statement I made.

I answered your question.

If you hit enough tee shots you'll eventually get a hole in one....

I'd be amazed if we don't go for defensive players for our first two picks at least.

RayClay - You seem to have forgotten your initial post where you claimed that BOTH articles had their headlines changed. I pointed out to you that wasn't the case and that it didn't happen in this thread. That part of your initial post was irrelevant to the topic at hand. So, yes, my asking you whether or not that would have been better posted in the thread that dealt directly with SAM stands.

You didn't actually answer the question because you never provided a name. And you can see that no one in this thread misquoted anything about Sam...
