Unsuccessful Migration - We'll try again next weekend

No need to apologize, Ian, but a bummer for you...I'm sure you had other things to be doing over the weekend.
Anyway, your commitment to the Board inspired me to re-up my lapsed subscription as a PatsFans Supporter!
Thanks for all that you do.

he RUINED MY LIFE!!!!!!

:D

he found Brady2Moss's dead logins...we KNOW you did it, you MONSTER!!!!

No worries Ian. Anyways, can't wait to see the new changes once completed.

Definitely a bummer, although I knew Saturday night when I hit the first snag that delayed the first import and caused me to abort until Sunday that it wasn't going to be a good weekend :ugh:

Meh - "it is what it is". I'll run it the way I did the first time and hopefully it works the way it did then. But I'm definitely tired after being up late three straight nights and then hit a second snag this afternoon when my notebook started giving me the blue screen of death. Finally managed to solve that, so I'm calling it an early one tonight before anything else happens :bricks:

Every bit helps, and it's much appreciated :)

But don't forget to re-enter your information into the T-shirt page. That's how I keep track of recent donations to make sure you get your stuff.

do you have to be up pretty much all night to do it?

Nothing exciting happening for another few weeks, so no worries. Plenty of time.

way to infuse the creeping terror of paranoia into the situation....

Unfortunately I lost it 75% through the migration, likely because of the higher traffic on the server for a weekday causing a higher load which caused an issue with the process running. Needless to say I'll wait until next weekend and give it another shot then. It was running much slower than the first time I did it, which was a successful attempt and went off without a hitch. Although I used a different method, which I'll try again next weekend instead to hopefully ensure it works out.

Sorry everybody.

Ian

No need to apologize, clearly the blame lies with Hydra.

Not all night, but a lot of it. Have to shut the board down, run a back-up and a few other processes before I can really start it, which overall takes about 90-minutes or so to prep it.

Then once I start the migration process it takes 2-3 hours or so to get through the first few steps of importing everyone's accounts, etc. before I can get to the point where I can start the process to begin the thread/post import which obviously takes the longest (15hrs the first time I did it). Once that starts I monitor the pace of how that's going for the first 30-minutes or so just to make sure it's running OK. But after that I'll let it run and then I just check on it in the morning. If everything runs relatively smoothly I'll start at 8pm and then hopefully by 1am-2am I'll get to bed.

At least that's about how it went the first time I made the first dry-run behind the scenes and that worked fine. I'll try it again Saturday night and hopefully this time will go a little smoother

Ian -

How much time would be saved if you deleted the year long tidal wave of Welker-Amendola-Edelperson threads?

Apology accepted Ian, don't let it happen again or their will be severe consequences. Saturday night is OK with me but try to have it done by noon Sunday or it might inconvenience me, and we cannot have that.

Wow. What a d.ck!

I think I speak for everyone by reiterating how impressed we are with your dedication, and the way in which you run the site. Top of the line stuff all around.

Thanks again, and hopefully the migration won't be too much of a pain in the butt for you personally. The last thing we want to do is upset your wife ;)

Ian, given the news -

Experts Find a Door Ajar in an Internet Security Method Thought Safe

while you have our attention on technical issues, this might be a good time to suggest that users change their passwords, particularly if they use one here that they use at sites with more personal vulnerability, or have used this site to link to another where they made a purchase.

Just a thought.

A good point. Definitely a scary thing...gets more and more sophisticated each time. Fortunately we're OK for now, but things like this are one of the other reasons we're moving away from this software. I keep reading and getting notifications about about too many holes in the newer versions.

But I agree, using the same password for everything is something we all need to be better about. I try and change it up but I only have 4-5 that I rotate between, and it seems like even that's not enough with what I keep reading :ugh:
