OT: AFCE Bruins Owner Jacobs to Buy Bills?

Not open for further replies.
I have a hard time seeing it happen. I don't see Jacobs giving up full control of the Bruins to his son right now. Jacobs is the most powerful owner in the NHL.

I don't see Jacobs buying a team that he will not own the stadium in either.

Odds are anyone buying the Bills is buying them to move them to Los Angeles or a yet unnamed larger market. I can't think of a unrepresented large market outside of L.A., but that doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

The only thing that could stop this is if the NFL wants to keep L.A. open as a negotiating tool for owners who want new stadiums. It seems to be a common for owners to threaten a move to L.A. if they don't get a stadium.

Too much of a cheapskate to pay NFL retail?
Have at it Bruins fans!
that was before the nhl cap. he spends up to the cap now that there is one. he shelled out huge cash for tuka and bergeron this past off season.

I thought Bon Jovi was buying the Bills and stealing BB away? ;)

Hopefully the Jacobs family will buy the Bills and be cheapskates for a long while like they were with the Bruins...

Jacobs can have them he is from Buffalo so it would not shock me also he raised Bruins tickets 40% to 70% he must be saving up for something.

Here is how this could work out great for us (Boston fans)

The NFL will not let anyone who owns another sports team in a different market purchase a NFL team. Here is the solution:

Jacobs sells the Bruins to Bob Kraft (which has always been my dream). Actually it would make much more sense for John Henry to buy them (because then he will own all of NESN). I'm not a big fan of Henry's politics, but I have to give him credit, he is a great baseball owner, spends the money and the Sox are always "doing the right thing" in the community. Needless to say, either one of them would be a tremendous uprgrade over Jacobs.

Jacobs can then take the money and buy the Bills. You know he will run them on the cheap, and thus guarantee the Pats 2 victories a year. Plus he will keep them in Buffalo.

Plus, if Kraft buys the team, he would more than likley move the Bruins practice facilites to Patriot Place, build a nice rink there for Foxboro, and hopefully let the B's play outdoors in Foxboro! That would be great!

Chara and the Gronk what a great TE/ Blueline combo!

The Jacob's family would not sell the Bruins they would keep it in the family. But if kraft owned the Bruins that would be something I'm not sure if I would like that. Being the owner of 2 teams (pats and revolution) seems like a hand full, I can't see Kraft being the owner of 3 big sports teams I think that is a little to much.

Please your not counting soccer as an actual sport are you? I'm sure Kraft can assign the runnings of the soccer team to Jonathan's pet hampster.

Jacobs is not selling the Bruins outside of Deleware North. He makes too much money, owns the stadium. Owns the concessions. Makes a lot of money off of the Celtics lease to play at TD Garden. Make a lot of money from his 20% stake in NESN. Has a arena that is used about 200 events a year and makes money on each.

Jacobs would "sell" the Bruins to his son Charlie Jacobs who has been running the team for about 10 years now and brought Cam Neely into team management and hired Chia.

Hahaha I agree I'm not a big soccer fan at all but it is a sport unfortunately.

Jacobs is a Buffalo native. I can't see him going out of his way to acquire the team (or have his son acquire it) in order to move it. In fact, I would think he'd be getting involved to keep them in Buffalo. And I'm 100% behind that.

Hopefully he can turn the Bills into a place to find talented players, and trade them to the Pats :D

His personal fortune is very much tied to the area. It's not just Delaware North (which owns, by the way, food vending at universities and ballparks all over the country, but also shipping, travel, casinos... he has his hand in a lot of businesses). But he's also big in development and real estate. He is Chair of the Board of Trustees at U Buffalo and they are overseeing an investment of $1 billion in the area over the next several years.

Ticket prices will go through the roof.

I thought I read a stipulation on the new ownership was the team had to stay in Buffalo for a very long time/lease agreement?

Hope it happens, the NFL without the buffalo bills wouldn't be right. **** LA and London. Bills fans need something to do between shoveling their yards and making igloos.

DOn't forget how much $$ he makes whenever you park your car under the garden. NHL playoffs are like $45-50 per game

There's a 10 year contract between the Bills and the stadium. If anyone wants out, they'll have to dole out $150 million or so.

Depending on what the Bills end up going for, that may actually be worth it. According to Forbes, he average NFL team is worth $1.17B (although that's the mean, and is inflated by the Cowboys, Pats, and Redskins basically). The Bills are 30th on that list, at $870M. If you paid $870M plus $150M for relocation right off the top, the total of $1.2B, which is about the value of the Colts (11th place) and is right in line with the average value of an NFL team). Even if Forbes' numbers are wrong, if their numbers for each team relative to the others are roughly correct, then $150M represents about the difference in value between the Bills and the average team.

Granted, there's then a bunch of added expenses associated with relocation that would have to be taken into account. But if you're moving the team to, say, Los Angeles or something, then a $1.2B entry price probably isn't the end of the world. Alternately, you could buy the team, stay in Buffalo for 10 years while pulling in TV contract money and enjoying the growth of the league as a whole, then in 10 years see what city offers you the greatest amount of corporate welfare to move there and create jobs, or whatever the hell it is that you claim you'll do to justify stealing from the taxpayers but actually won't.
