Re: Adrian Wilson might have been cut

I didn't come here to be offended. I came here to read Pats news as I often do. And I'd take it from your response that you're not Asian. If so, then don't tell me what's offensive to me or what ought to be offensive to me. It often helps to get your head out of your as* and listen rather than piling on and reoffending.

No, you clearly came here to be offended and then ***** about it. Another exciting Friday night for you, eh?

We'll fight back against such slurs. Might as well get used to it and get comfortable with the 21 century.

At any rate, more people in my ignore file as a result of this. I'll not be missing much from any of them and I'm off to bed so good night, ladies.

Oversensitivity like what you expressed in this thread is a major problem in our society. People like you look for offense, even when none is intended. You warp the concept of tolerance to the point of intolerance towards the innocuous. You are part of the problem...

It is too bad that Claremonster reacted by poking fun at the sound of another language. He was a longtime poster who's presence generally made this site better. In our overly PC society, such a trivial act must result in banning for fear of the backlash of unthinking sheep. It is a true shame that the real infraction went unpunished. It is ironic that on this site, and in the overly PC masses of western society, poking fun at "white" ethnic groups is perfectly acceptable. I've never seen someone on here banned for poking fun at the Irish, not that I'm suggesting that they should be.

I find your intolerance extremely offensive. Until you learn the true meaning of tolerance and understanding, this world will be a better place without you.

The thread title is “Patriots release Adrian Wilson” why are most of the last three pages of this thread dedicated to discussion about ethnic backgrounds.

Keep it about football, if you have a personal issue with someone take it up directly in PM or ask a moderator to mediate the situation. If the conversation does not exist, the risk for being banned does not either.

He should probably retire at this point. He looked dreadful last preseason prior to the Achilles injury and it was unlikely he was ever going to come back the same after that. Very solid professional career, though. But he's not the player he once was.

Well said. We will deal with people who transgress this board's very clear rules.

I must admit to being disappointed that we didn't get to see Wilson here in his prime. I'm ok with bringing Chung in and seeing what he does in camp.

Don't tell me what to do, 6.

You can do whatever you want brother I was just making a recommendation. This does not seem like something worth being banned from the forum over.

Clare got banned for last night? That's crazy.

For the record, I'm not asian and I wasn't trying to stir up any trouble last night. However, I will stand up against prejudice of any kind, even if it isn't directed to my own ethnic background. It was pretty clear what claremonster's intent was in calling Patrick Chung, "Wang Chung." This was confirmed by the blatant racist PMs and other posts he directed to another poster. Even if "Wang Chung" was a band, claremonster could have explained himself and apologized if it offended anyone. He did not. Instead he made even more hurtful comments. Good riddance to him, and I hope it's permanent.

Right-O.

I would venture to say that I have known more Chinese people than 99% of this board and most would be no more offended by "Wang Chung" than they would be by "Flock of Seagulls". The intent isn't relevant to me.

That being said, IDGAF either way. I just cannot tell you how furious Wotan's (Mav4?) lame insults made me, especially towards Pissah. You lock those two guys in a room and I know who is coming out in one piece, and it ain't Wotan. And I'd be thrilled.

And now I'm really done.

I'm with you, PatJew. Somebody needs to read more, or was simply picking a fight knowing full well the phrase was not offensive at all.

I hate to comment on the sensibilities of others, but can we please strive for literacy and use of the Internet tools on the Internet? The word, exactly, was "Wang Chung". Capital letters typically signify a name. It is proper English. The name means "yellow bell" in Chinese, and is not racist in any way, shape or form. Ignorance does not make a term racist, and education is a dangerous thing. This is the reason why scholars get in trouble for using more than one syllable words like 'niggardly' (meaning 'stingy' and in the dictionary). If you wish to be a beacon of light in a hateful world, try arming yourself with actual fact first.

I would submit that before people start professing outrage at a term or phrase, it is wise to enter the offensive term in quotes in this crazy tool called 'google', as one is already on the Internet in order to visit this site, and see if it is actually a racist term or phrase. Or use common sense and ask why 4 pages passed on this site without outrage, as some posters may actually have a clue and would jump on an actual racist term. I hate racism, but laziness and/or stupidity are a close second.

I looked to figure out why Adrian Wilson was still being discussed, given his contributions, and regret that I looked at the thread. Sheesh.

I can't believe so many of you are defending someone for making racist comments and *****ing that an Asian person who is offended by it is "oversensitive." You guys are ******* pathetic.

I'm not defending the comments afterwords that are posted in this thread. The first post was not and that was what I was referring to (as were others here), so you had better not be calling me out. I believe I clearly explained my concern and what started that issue.

If you are calling me out, I am happy to have a PM discussion on the subject in greater detail.

The only conclusion I can draw from this thread is that not everybody can have fun tonight.

I did not read them and I do not know who is wrong or right in the situation. My post was a broad statement. I just would hate to see valuable members of the board end up banned over something that doesn't even have anything to do with the thread title.

That said you have the right to determine what is worth what in your mind, and if you feel that something needs to happen or be said then I can respect that.

I didn't even know Pissah was involved, but I love that dude he is probably my favorite user on here so I understand your desire to defend him.

I was merely stating that I think it was quite obvious that he was not using a slur in his initial post. Anything that came after, from Claremonster for instance, I can understand being bothered by. But somebody can CHOOSE to be offended by something, and then use the "don't tell me what's offensive" bit. Pissah pointed that out with regards to your handle, and you responded not with discourse, but with absurd name calling. That's when I wondered what your deal was. You allowed the discussion to only take place on your terms, in which you were the sole arbiter of intent and what was/is offensive, all while using undeniably offensive language yourself (I am sure the ladies on the site do not appreciate you using the term "pus*ies as often as you felt compelled to, for instance). That is bush league to me, no matter what form it takes. You could have explained yourself without resorting to the kind of hypocrisy that you did, and I would have had no issue with it. I wouldn't then be re-offending you, which was near impossible from what I wrote, as I was merely trying to get you to look inward a little and see the way you were behaving.

Re: Adrian Wilson might have been cut

FYI - Pat Chung was born in Kingston, Jamaica. His father is Chinese-Jamaican and his mother is Afo-Jamaican.

Clare shouldn't have been banned, and you acting as if "Wang Chung" is some deep racial insult just shows you're either really young or really oversensitive.

Hell, I believe that Berman used to use "Everybody Pat Chung tonight" as his call, and Chung is a singer.
