Brandon LaFell projection?

5200 yards and the #2 TE has zero yards, the #3 TE has zero yards and all the running backs have zero yards?

All purpose? Maybe.

Receiving? Definitely lol

EDIT:

Just to see if it's reasonable with all purpose:

LaFell: 800 rec, 200 rushing (he's done some rushes)
Edleman 500 rec, 500 PR (LaFell, Dobson, and Thompkins somehow take JE and DA's spots)
Amendola 600 rec 300 rushing (end around?) 100 PR
Dobson 1000 rec
Thompkins 1000 rec (yeah yeah, I know)
Boyce 500 KR, 500 rec

That gives Brady 4400 yards without the TEs

Gronk: 800 yards (PUP half of the year, a little off his game)

5200 yards for Brady. Not totally impossible!

Tom Brady had a "down year" because of poor pass protection, 3 rookie WR, 1 WR that wasn't injured at some point, only had a legit receiving TE for 6.5 games, a pass catching RB for 8 games, and he was still top 6 in passing yards. 136 yards off from top 5.

You had a perfect chance to bump Brady's numbers up to something like 5500 yards because I put it on a tee for you, but you blew it trying to bust my balls. :D

Hey, on a more serious note, how'd you get that pic from 'a' to 'b'? With the new(ish) rules for photobucket and imageshack, I'm looking for alternatives.

Imgur is the best, but in this case I'm using Tapatalk Pro on my phone, which offers their own hosting and image editing service accessed through the app.

It reduces the image quality as you can see but very convenient. On a PC I would use Tapatalk with the free Windows program Rightload for quick seamless uploads to the service.

If they somehow fix that Oline, draft another receiving TE, Brady can go over 5K yards again.

Love the optimism here!!! [/sarcasm]

So despite improving every year, and now coming to a team that passes more than his previous situation.... You guys are actually predicting his numbers to decline!

I'll bookmark this and bump it in 2015 :)

He's also coming to a team with a lot of options.

I see Gronk, Edelman, Dobson and Amendola getting more targets than him, but I could be wrong.

We need him to have his options in the playoffs. And with several bad breaks (no pun intended) we haven't had the players we need in the playoffs.

What are the odds all those players are healthy all year. There will be time missed, it's like death and taxes.

Lots of options?

Gronk and Amendola are both good to miss a lot of games between the two of them.

Edelman has been fragile all the way up until last year.

LaFell should get a lot of opportunity.

Yea. You both are right unfortunately.

We need him to be a red zone target, pure and simple.

If he can grab 6-8 touchdowns his other numbers won't matter all that much.

In all honesty, I could see Gronk and Amendola NOT being injured as much because of the Pats using Dobson, Boyce, and Lafell more.

There is a good potential for Brady to put up another 600 pass attempts. And that is with Gronk, Dobson, Edelman, Lafell, and Vereen getting the bulk of the work. I would VERY happy if the Pats could go back to the "Brady's favorite receiver is the open one" format. And those 5 give the Pats such a variety of looks. Then you add in Amendola, Boyce, and another TE and it's just havoc for opposing defenses.

And yes, I know I didn't mention Thompkins but that is because there is the potential for him to not make the roster unless the Pats carry 6 WR not including Slater, who is a speacial teamer only.

If he's getting 1000 yards that means one of Edelman, Amendola, or Dobson is terrible.

Not necessarily. If BB exploits the proper mismatches - this guy could have lots of YAC (yards after catch - I know it may be contact - I can't keep it all straight anymore). He is definitely capable of averaging 15 yards per catch - all he has to do is catch 67 passes. IF HEALTHY, this could be a scary O - so long as the OL holds up. Lafell brings ONE HUGE characteristic missing in free agent signings since Moss - INTELLIGENCE. I have a feeling he and Brady will LOVE each other.

I don't see any reason why he won't be able to exceed his previous career high of 49 receptions.

Gronk Edelman and Vereen will be Brady's 3 main pass catchers and DA. Lafell and Dobson will fight for the rest

Gronk will not be back right away - who the hell knows when he will be back.

Vereen has already dropped - LITERALLY - his way out of Brady's good graces. He has SERIOUS work to do there

Edelman EARNED his safety blanket status - but NOT his health card - he is ALWAYS a question mark each season health-wise

If healthy, Lafell could be a much bigger signing than it appears right now.

Depth and flexibility at TE and WR for them. I think they may be using him in the Hernandez role as a hybrid receiving TE but can still split him out and use him as a WR outside the hashes if they want him or need him out there. Depending upon how they use him 600-900 Yds, and 50-70 Rec, but 1st downs and TD's will be more important. The Patriots don't have one dominant WR but the overall skill sets of those they have could make them one of the best receiving corps in football if they stay somewhat healthy. Dobson, LaFell, and Gronkowski give them size and Edelman, Amendola, Boyce and Vereen give them speed and quickness so they can match up in many ways, and as long as they have Brady dictating the game and Match ups they should be one of the top 3-5 scoring offenses in football.

I think you nailed it.

I think what you outlined may be a role the coaches hope he can play

Dude is 6 foot 2 - not Gronk tall but not Edelman short.

He's got every bit as much chance of making a big impact with this team as anyone. Another credible receiving threat is only going to help the others by stretching the field horizontally if not vertically

I think what Belichick really wants to see is Brady have a wide assortment of receivers he can trust, and not just Edelman and Gronk, and LaFell could be another part of that

Only 27 years old. He's improved in every season. Played in a run heavy offense that had a clear cut #1 WR in Steve Smith, and a running QB in Cam Newton.

Now he comes to New England. No clear cut #1. Pass heavy offense. He has the opportunity of a lifetime. Typical Patriot under the radar signing that may turn into a huge gain.

Anyone else think he can break 1000 yards this year? I have a feeling Brady will be looking his way very often.

I think he could, but I don't think he will. My guess would be that he gets about 800 yards, more if Gronk and/or Dobson are unavailable/ineffective. I'm fine with that, though, and don't expect a ton of yards from him. A lot of his value is tied up in his versatility, blocking, red zone ability, etc. Last year, once Gronk was gone the Pats had a lot of difficulty converting in the red zone, so if he helps significantly there, that will be plenty for me.

I don't see any reason why Gronk would not be back for the first game of the season, and Vereen was 3rd over all on the team in rec in only 8 games and 2th in the playoffs we all know Brady loves throwing to the 3rd down back so Vereen will get his,

as for Lafell I hope your right and he has a great season but his been the panthers #2 WR for the last three seasons and has not toped 600 yards and Cam Newton is a pretty good QB who has averaged over 3800 yards a season for his career

What is awesome is that we have 6 wide receivers who might have significant impacts in 2014. We have Gronk and Vereen. Bolden wasn't terrible as Vereen's backup, and could have receptions if Vereen is down.

The biggest question in the passing offense is Gronkowski's health and who will be Gronk's backup.

HUH??? Gronkowski should be back for Training camp.

Vereen didn't drop his way out of Brady's good graces. That's you smoking cheap stuff.

Last I looked, Lafell has missed an average of 1 game each year (2 in 2012 and 2 in 2010). The 2 games in 2012 were due to a foot injury,. So I am not sure why anyone would say "If healthy, <blah blah blah>"

Edelman has started each season healthy. But, yeah, his health is "always a question mark each season"..

I've seen less spin coming out of the mouths of Jets' fans about Mark Sanchez being a good 1st round pick than your post.
