Just saw a blurb on this. He'd seem kind of redundant considering what we already have. But, he might come cheap.

For a spam sammich and a bag of tater chips he might have a few active games. :singing:

Austin Collie
Miles Austin

If they sign cheap on the dotted line, why not?

Damn. With that receiving corps, may as well just buy my tickets to Super Bowl XLV right now.

If the New England Patriots offensive line can't handle the "Pot Roast" next season, it does not matter who the wide receivers and running backs are.

Being that Super Bowl XLV was in February 2011, I think you missed how tongue-in-cheek my response was. :)

Trust me, I currently know the caliber of the two aforementioned wide receivers.

Austin Collie = Captain Concussion
Miles Austin = Chronic Pulled Hamstring

Sign the best. No-brainer if vet min.

Good. I would love to pick him up for a cheap 1 yr show me deal with low guaranteed money and have him fight it out for a spot.

I have been for this move for a while. Either he gets cut and you lose 100K for a decent gamble or he contributes and you got a steal.

You are looking at it from the whats best for Josh Boyce viewpoint instead of whats best for the New England Patriots.

I think it is fair to say Boyce has the inside track at a spot though.

Dobson, Edelman, LaFell & Amendola are all locks due to various considerations (LaFell could potentially be cut but VERY unlikely).

That leaves 1-2 spots open. I think Boyce might get the benefit of a doubt over other guys but he has to earn it after camp starts. If they decide they want to keep 2 WRs he is VERY likely to make it. Boyce & Thompkins are probably well ahead of the rest of the crowd. I like Harrison but he has to show it and lacks experience which will hurt him.

Exactly. people complained when Collie signed as well but they didn't complain when he contributed some big plays to them down the stretch. Belichick isn't looking to turn heads with these signings he is simply trying to add epth and insurance to the roster and allow it to sort itself out in camp.

This I would like very much. He's a good player when healthy. Fast and a good route runner (imo from what I've seen).

Only problem is, he is never healthy.

I don't know. Playing 97 games out of a possible 112 over the last 7 seasons doesn't back up that statement.

Austin can be a dynamic player when healthy. I wouldn't even mind him as a kick returner.

Yes, Boyce and Thompkins are likely fighting for the last WR roster spot. I think it a bit silly to believe that Miles Austin (or even someone else) has little chance to beat them out.

Austin, Smith, Bush... we are into the dregs now and its a volume game. The probability of any one of them making a serious contribution is close to zero. Sign as many as possible to minimum salaries and see if anything sticks.

We've seen Brady do awesome things with less talented WR's than Austin.

Yeah, it's weird -- Austin really has just had the one injury. He's been a pretty reliable player until last year. He's not anywhere near an Austin Collie in terms of repeat physical calamities.

Helps not having been a slot receiver with Manning throwing to you.

All I find in the news is Jeff Howe speculating the Pats might want a Miles Austin "type."

That's on twitter.

a wide receiver whose always on the injury report list?? if that's what they are looking for, I would prefer Collie....he seems to have spunk.
