I'm not getting involved in this (I deleted the post you are referring to). BB clearly knows more about the situation than the rest of us so I'm fine with what he's done.

That's fine. I made my post before you deleted your's. I'll drop it if you don't wish to get involved.

I wonder what this says about Connolly and his restructure (if any).

Sorry if this is re-posted.

I think the point here is that when Bill Belichick feels a player is good enough to start for him and 'a bunch of people on this forum have been saying for a long time he stinks' that I would put more faith in the opinion of Bill Belichick for many reasons. They start with him having a more comprehensive set of facts. The concept that it is his job to grade this player on film evaluating everything he does, vs a fan watching the game and deciding who they think suck is one. The idea that he knows the player and works with him on a daily basis is another. The fact that he has also done film study to evaluate the other options is another.
When you add to the fact that he has much more information to base his judgment on and much better skill in reaching one (although I think there are some posters on this forum that actually think they are a better judge of football talent than BB ) you would have to think his judgment is a more sound one that the fans, even if they have a huge consensus among them.
That doesn't mean that BB is always right. I can picks stocks based upon a cursory study using my less than perfect knowledge of the market, and sometimes I will do better than a professional market analyst, but I don't think you would pass up his advice to take mine.

Restructure Connolly, Draft Xavier Sua-Filo in the first round, plug him into RG.

Let Connolly and Wendell battle it out at center, loser gets cut (Unless Connolly's deal is redone to a point that carrying both doesn't matter.

And he's in a better position to evaluate the alternatives too..and the value of those alternatives. Maybe he'd rather load up on defensive players in the draft or on skill position players and doesn't like the value of drafting a center. Who knows? We certainly don't.

Just having more much more information doesn't necessarily make someone's decisions better if they're not doing a better job of interpreting the information they have.

BTW, I know plenty professional fund managers that I've beaten with my index fund :D

name ONE internet "football genius" that has EVER made the jump from board know-it-all to an NFL team anywhere at any time in history.

See 'reasoning, circular'.

An internet poster cannot be correct on an issue, we know this because NFL teams don't seek them out, they don't seek them out because they cannot be correct.

See, it makes perfect sense

so, trouble answering the DIRECT, EXTREMELY CLEAR CUT QUESTION I see...

I've received offers from several teams, but have yet to find a team or owner worthy of my services.

None, but the Patriots are long overdue to hire Miguel.:)

I think the Patriots would be well served to hire Ian Logue as a consultant for fan relations.

I see this deal as an 850K investment in Draft/FA flexibility and competition. If the Patriots do not resign Wendell, they likely have to either sign a FA at higher guaranteed money and/or they may find themselves in a position where they have to over draft an interior offensive lineman and give him little competition to have to fight for his job. the signing of Wendell ( and to some extent Wilfork) better allow the Petriots the opportunity to maximize flexibility in the draft. It allows the Patriots the freedom to cash in picks to move up if they see an elite talent, the luxury of drafting a very highly rated player on their board who has slipped at a position that is not currently of high need or the luxury of trading back when O lineman is thinning if they don't see value on the board. Most of the same people who hate this deal would be screaming (and still might be) if BB passes up a potential defensive playmaker in round two or three to reach for an average interior Olineman because he is responding to a run on that position.

None of this means they will draft the best player at each opportunity, but building depth and competition in FA always affords a team more choices on draft day and through camp/exhibition season. At less than then $1,000,000, I think it is a very reasonable investment.

I think that's extremely debatable, SC.

The key wording here is vs "top teams," mostly coming against good defenses in the month of Jan/Feb.

Did we run enough in the last SB46 loss during the 2nd half, having the lead at halftime? Or did we pass too much? You decide...

In the BAL loss during the AFCCG in 2012 when they dared us to run (much like the Jets did 2 years before) by going to a nickle defense the majority of the time, did we run enough? Did we do it successfully? Or did we pass too much? You know the answer to these questions. We couldn't run successfully enough to do it often enough, so the 2 went hand in hand.

Until we're able to dominate or at least hold our own in the trenches and impose a physical will during the colder months of importance, the likelihood remains pretty good that we may not be able to run successfully enough to beat the top teams.

Now--one can argue that we don't "have" to run, and they'd have something of an argument on some level, but it sure helps a lot!

It's called balance and it used to be a very popular word around the NFL.

The best example of the Pats going pass-happy was against the Giants in both losses in 2011. The Giants were pathetic against the run that year and had a terrific pass rush.

It appears that the Pats may actually be moving in that direction now. Better late than never.

Of course he is wrong about the contract. He is guessing wildly.
Andy, your statement implies that you have more knowledge about the contract details than does Field Yates. Please share.

If I understand correctly, Wendell will receive more money in 2015 in 2014 if he starts in 2015.

Dante gave his input. At very least, Wendell is a fine backup (ditto for Connolly).

It seems time for a draftee or two.

Also, it seems that Connolly's extension/restructure negotiations should wait until after the draft.

The combination of having more information and better skill at evaluating it and decision making means his decisions will be better. The decisions are complicated so being wrong for the right reasons and vice versa does happen.
Surely you agree that BB is more skilled at making football decision that you right?

Yeah, right
