DeSean Jackson Released by Eagles [update]: Signed by Washington

Was about to say sign the beast but, gang connections? Nooooooooooo.

That article seems completely speculative and with little basis. I'd love seeing him here catching passes from TB12. Plenty of ways to structure the deal so that the pats are protected. We have taken on guys with worse backgrounds. I just hope he's done doing cartwheels into the endzone.
I don't see anything "speculative" about that article. It is well researched and provides a factual basis for Philly's concerns. I hate to say it but the Patriots, above all other teams, have to be especially vigilant against a player's off field activities.

Now, there's 2 sides to every story, and the article does talk about Jackson contributing to the local community. But to call this a "red flag" is an extreme understatement.

Wonder how many people he has killed already.

Jackson has a problem with missing team meetings, and the Eagles reportedly believe his friends are becoming a powerful, negative influence. The team is "concerned about having [Jackson] around the younger players. Jackson has become close with a man named Theron Shakir, a member of the Crips and one of two men charged in the murder of a 14-year-old rival gang member. The Eagles simply don't want to wake up to an Aaron Hernandez situation one morning. Jackson has very likely played his last down for the Eagles.

Apart from the photos of him throwing gang signs or hanging with members of the Crips? No basis at all there...

Yeah and Floyd Mayweather hangs out with Justin Bieber, does that make him a resident of p-town?

Well, I hope the Pats sign him immediately.

Last off-season was EXCITING! Wall-to-wall Patriot news!

Wahoo!

DeSean Jackson was cutting meetings to hang out with friends, a source confirmed. Relationship with Kelly was also a big concern. #Eagle

fit right in with the jets

No way in Hades that Kraft lets this happen here. He felt duped by Hernandez, he won't be doing that again. And I'm A-Okay with that.

Highly doubting he comes here now that there's mention of his friends and their gang ties.

Stay away from the beast.

Even if he signs with the Patriots for $1 dollar, he would be poison in the locker room...

You think there is a possibility someone leaked false information about gang ties so that the Patriots would lose interest? Wouldn't put it past the Jets.

Sources tell me recent "robbery" @DeseanJackson10 had all kinds of holes. No forced entry, no money stolen, even had little cash left.

He thinks he's a mini Suge Knight. He's a fake gangster.

That's the other thing. Throw out the gang stuff if you want (which I think is dangerous, given recent history), but do we want a guy who has a reputation of making boneheaded plays on the field and skipping team meetings trying to learn and get on the same page with Brady? Not going to work, and NOT the example we want to set for Dobson/Thompkins/Boyce.

A 1 year deal with contract protections for the club, and Jackson's a worthwhile signing (or at least an individual investigation prior to signing) for about 28-30 NFL teams.

KT was arrested 7+ times and had gang affiliations. People can grow up.

I'm torn on Desean.

I'm going to go the other way and say he was born to be a Raven.

Frightening stuff. I didn't realize it was this bad. Knowing the above, if true, I don't think the Patriots should touch him with a 10 foot pole.
Or a regulation sized goal post either.

Talented and troubled we can do without.
