but but...he already cleaned out his locker

Awesome!!

So how much space do we get with this?

Just heard on the radio on 3M is guaranteed. I know I heard that right... but no way that is true.

top 2 questions.

#1 Cap breakdown? How is it structured? - We will find this out as time goes on and I assume it will be reasonably good for both sides.

Then the MUCH MORE interesting question.

#2 How does this effect the draft?

At what point do you extend for Donald now? If Hageman falls in your lap at 29 do you take him?

This is one we will be debating till the draft and with no clear answer. On one hand you possible have 5 Good to decent DTs on your roster. On the other Kelly and Wilfork are here short term and this might be your best chance to land a quality DT without having to reach too far.

We have needs at DE, OT, OG, C, SS, LB.

I we think it will be ten or eleven defensive linemen on the roster we're looking to add two or three more significant ones? (Nink, Buchanan, Cha. Jones makes eight).

Agreed. DT seems set barring a Donald BPA trade up or Easley falling pretty far. I wouldn't be mad with an early round DE, especially since there are none left in FA.

Man, that's still a lot of dough for a soon-to-be 33 year-old who is coming of an Achilles tear. Just saying....

I heard the same thing. That's a good thing, a very good thing IMO.

Welcome news, absolutely delighted to hear this. This offseason just keeps on giving.:)

Signing Phillips to be a rotation guy/3rd down LDE might be more impact than drafting a DE at #29. The failure rate/long wait for production of 1st round DE's over the past 8 years or so is very high.

Can we have eat crow thread for all those who wanted him gone so we could spend his money ...of course that was not me.:D

I will tell you right now I wanted him gone (nothing against him personally) but it was always depending on the deal he would take. If he will only cost 6M this year total (and we were gonna pay him 3.5M anyway) then sure keep him. He can be useful most likely but I still do not agree with the philosophy of having a space eater being a high paid player which is what Vince likely is at this point for the rest of his career.

I think Armstead could count as a DE. I can see one 3/5-tech type and a at least one DE still.

That is why officially it is only $2,999,950 guaranteed because they made him pay for the new nameplate.

Phillips was just signed by the Titans.

Those bloody cheap and ungrateful and disloyal patriots

3M guaranteed is not a lot of dough. I heard from 98.5 that its all in 2014. So say he never plays in 2014 and is cut afterwards. Then we still got $4.58M off the cap by just sitting on the contract - problem is we can't really spend it because we can't assume he won't play - unless he goes down early on before camp or early in camp.

He was just signed by the Titans. Only JAGs are left at DE in free agency. A 2nd-3rd round DE could help as a 3rd pass rusher.

OK Vince, now come back healthy and hungry (for flattening Ron Mexico). :rocker:

iam sure felger, mazz, borges, chb are all pissed right now

I'm personally thrilled that we locked down the best secondary in the NFL so that we could start an aging/injured NT who doesn't pass rush for 3 years

hopefully he doesn't play very much and all that money is incentive-based

Trade down coming in 3...2...1

I think they might still go get Dee Ford. If Easley slips into the late 2nd, I hope they grab him.

Now I think they trade out of 29 and go TE, OL, LB with their first three. Of course, it all depends upon who falls to 29...

I never thought they'd trade up for Donald. He's not the BB type.

I could see a trade up for Ebron, but that's about it.

EDIT: Just saw the guaranteed money reports, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence that the Pats think Vince will be all set to go.

So, in retrospect, if Hageman falls, yeah, I think they grab him.
