Patriots and DT Vince Wilfork restructured his contract. It's a new 3-year, $22.5M deal, per source. Wilfork stays a Patriot.

Wilfork’s new deal is through 2016 and earns him the right to make $8M in 2014.

I wonder how much is guaranteed and how much leverage we have if he wont be able to contribute in a meaningful way..

That is great news! Wilfork will give us three more quality seasons of service I have NO doubt in my mind.

top 2 questions.

#1 Cap breakdown? How is it structured? - We will find this out as time goes on and I assume it will be reasonably good for both sides.

Then the MUCH MORE interesting question.

#2 How does this effect the draft?

At what point do you extend for Donald now? If Hageman falls in your lap at 29 do you take him?

This is one we will be debating till the draft and with no clear answer. On one hand you possible have 5 Good to decent DTs on your roster. On the other Kelly and Wilfork are here short term and this might be your best chance to land a quality DT without having to reach too far.

If this deal is based more on hope than medical fact and/or the guarantee is on the high side, I won't be at all happy.

I we think it will be ten or eleven defensive linemen on the roster we're looking to add two or three more significant ones? (Nink, Buchanan, Cha. Jones makes eight).

Most likely 2 good to decent years then cut him on the 3rd with a smaller cap hit than the 3.5 we would have had to pay this year. I don't think Wilfork is ever going to be near to his 2012 form again for a sustained period but I expect him to be better than he was in early 2013.

Vince Wilfork’s new deal is for 3 years, averaging $7.5M per year. So, 3 years, $22.5M. $3M is guaranteed.
