Knowshon Moreno ?

Interesting. He's a really talented RB with some fumbling issues but it would give them an exceptional backfield that can make all the plays. Hard to imagine that the numbers make sense but he would be a good addition. I'm actually surprised the Jets didn't go all in on him.

IF...IF this were to happen...drafting a RB from the pats would 100% be impossible. Ridley 2 years ago was a good move...last year..he killed me. Pats suck for fantasy RBs!

Moreno may price himself out of what we're willing to pay for an RB after posting nearly 1600 total yards and 13 TDs.

He's also about as inconsistent as they come.

Where do you get those numbers?

He had 4 fumbles as a roookie.

He's had 4 since in 4 years and had none last year in 300 touches.

Are we signing everyone that had big games against us and is a free agent? Lafell, Moreno....is Gordon a free agent??!

Word on the streets is that BB is trying to sign Clete Blakeman and his crew. :bricks:

he only has 3 fumbles over the last 3 years so if its true that maybe way BB is signing him and he can catch the ball. I still don't think his a upgrade over stevan ridley but ridley maybe one fumble away from getting cut

Sounds like he has it under control. i don't know if the money makes sense for them but I'm actually intrigued by this, in part because it gives them an outstanding outside run game and that would give Denver fits. They are strong on the inside against the run but their LB's sell out for the pass rush and they are vulnerable to that kind of attack. If they could construct a decent deal for him i would be for it. If he wants 7-8 million a season it isn't happening but if they could get him in at 3-16 with some backloaded it could work. I kind of doubt that's what he's looking for but he may want to come play for McDaniels. Moreno, Ridley, Vereen would give them a great corps of Rb's.

Ridley, if he doesn't fumble is a far, far, better RB than Moreno.

I love Ridley, he's one of my favorite players on the field and off (listening to him in interviews and such).

I REALLY hope he gets this fumbling thing under control. He has the potential (yeah, I know, the "P" word) to be one of the best runners New England has ever had.

He's a legit runner with some of the best balance in the NFL. I've seen him regain his footing after nearly being knocked sideways countless time, and I can't think of many people who can hit the hole faster than he can. His burst is insane, even if his top end speed isn't the best. He's not going to outrun the defense, but he can consistently hit the 2nd or 3rd level if the OL does its job too.

Just one major issue keeping him from being a great RB in the NFL today.

I wouldn't want Moreno as my bell cow RB like Denver basically used him last year, but in a committee approach like the Pats run, he could be a valuable addition. He is decent runner and a good receiving back.

I agree with the assessment of dumping Bolden and adding both Moreno and Blount. That would be a big upgrade to the RB corp.

I have always liked this guy. Ever since his days when he consistently destroyed the Gators. I hated Tebow back then and loved seeing such an average player lose because their team couldn't stop Moreno even when they knew it was coming. I agree w/ Deus. Sign Moreno, Blount, and laugh at Denver.

P.S. I stopped hating Tebow after witnessing Tebow time more than once and his victory over the arrogant Steelers.

I'll take Moreno over Blount myself. I like Blount, but people act like he's the second coming after the last couple of games.

With that though, I'm a Ridley guy. If he stops the fumbling, the job is his.

I'd be cool with either Blount or Moreno. If Blount signs on with Steelers then DEF would take Moreno. With Ridley, Vareen, Bolden, I'd release Bolden out of those 3.

I don't think signing both Moreno and Blount is very realistic. Since we don't have loads of cap space, we can't offer to overpay them (not that I think we would even if we did have the cap space). Which means the main reason they'd come here is opportunity, and they aren't going to sign somewhere together that already has a back duo like Ridley/Vereen in place. You can probably convince 1 of them to sign due to Ridley's fumbling issues and in Moreno's case as a productive pass catching back, Vereen's injury history but both would be a tough, if not impossible sell.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd take Moreno as he provides depth behind both Ridley and Vereen, where as Blount can only backup Ridley. Blount's likely a little better pure runner, but Moreno's versatility makes him the better overall player and better fit for a Patriots team that was forced to use Brandon Bolden as a 3rd down back for half the season last year.

He seems to be combining Moreno's running and receiving totals.

Yeah, I caught that. I guess he scored three touchdowns in the playoffs to add to his listed 10?

Not according to nfl.com (1 TD).

It seems he's an above average receiver, but just over 1,000 yards in a 16 game season isn't outstanding. Looks better than 999 yards, I guess.

Ridley, if he doesn't fumble is a far, far, better RB than Moreno.

No, he's not. He's a far better inside runner, but he's not as elusive as Moreno, and more importantly, he doesn't have Moreno's capability in the passing game. But I would expect a RBBC anyway.

He seems to be combining Moreno's running and receiving totals.

The term "yards from scrimmage" is standardly used to refer to a RBs rushing and receiving yardage combined. 2000 is kind of the rough elite cutoff. Matt Forte, who is probably considered the best all-purpose RB in the NFL, had 1943 yards from scrimmage this year (1349 rushing with a 4.6 YPC average and 594 receiving with an 8.0 YPA average) and 12 TDs this year (9 rushing, 3 receiving). Moreno had 1586 yards from scrimmage (1038 rushing with a 4.3 YPC average and 548 receiving with a 9.1 YPA average) and 13 TDs (10 rushing, 3 receiving). Forte, Jamaal Charles and Shady McCoy were the only RBs to have more yards from scrimmage in 2013 than Moreno.

The term "all purpose yards" standardly refers to yards from scrimmage plus return yardage. Darren Sproles set the record in 2011 with 2696 all purpose yards. Danny Amendola had over 2300 all purpose yards twice with St. Louis, in 2009 and 2010. Wes Welker had 2 seasons over 2100 all purpose yards, both with Miami (in 2005 and 2006) when he was used as a kickoff and punt returner.

It's all a matter with numbers. Ridley, Vareen and Bolden are a solid group, and while either Blount or Moreno will certainly add to the team, there's no need to go the extra mile, contract-wise, for a RB.

Don't forget that next year, all our RBs are free agents, and there will be just some amount of Cap Space for this position

I'd rather upgrade at center or right guard.

I'm always a bit leery of guys that have career years while also in contract years. But I would take him at the right price. Defenses wouldn't be able to telegraph whether the Pats are running or passing with him in the backfield. I would still prefer Blount, though. I liked the physical, downhill style of running that he was doing at the end of last season and in the playoffs.
