If Revis restructures, do you think he'll make Team Captain next year?

I feel like the `mercenary` narrative is a lot of hype. I think Revis wanted to be paid like a top NFL player, which he was and is, and the ego of Woody Johnson became a point of conflict for both parties. The Jets suck. If I was going to stay and suffer with them, I would want to be paid too.

I think him coming to New England for what is essentially a 1 year, 12M mutual try out period, with him being protected from the franchise tag in case he hates it, is a possible indicator that he means what he says when he says he's here because he wants to win. If he was the mercenary NY haters claim, he would of just gone to Oakland for 16M+ a year, and I'm sure they would of given it to him. They have lots of money and 3 good quarterbacks in their division.

So let's say good things happen this year, he likes Kraft, he likes playing with Belichick, he likes playing with guys like Tom, and he restructures to try to solidify himself as a part of something... historic.
A 4 year, 40-45M contract or whatever, and he's going to be a Patriot for the duration of his prime, if not one for the rest of his career.

I remember Revis was the guy for awhile firing up the Jets Ray Lewis style (only more coherently) before kick off.

Under the above circumstances, do you think he'll make Team Captain by next season if he has a monster year and is fully assimilated into the locker room?

anything is possible but all I really care about is him playing at the highest level and helping the pats win a SB this season

as long as he doesn't call Belichick a jerk again.

Being a captain means absolutely nothing to me. Being a captain should mean something to the players. If Revis is made a captain, it'll be because the players made it so.

Maybe we should wait until he plays a couple of snaps in preseason before trying to figure out this stuff.

The whole "captain" thing is somewhat convoluted, remember hearing an ex pat talk about the process... every player votes, it is put into a hat and then the coaches go off and count the votes....

The players who mentioned the process cast a crooked eye on the whole election...

If Revis is truly as ego-centric as his interviews make him appear, then he should not be a captain on any team, nevermind the Patriots.

McCourty, Mayo, Ninkovich, Brady, Edelman, Mankins, Slater…and that's it.

That's way too many guesses wrapped in theories wrapped up in wishful thinking and all tied together with a nice big red bow of hope for me...makes my head hurt...but to each his own.

All that matters IMO is that Revis plays up to his potential this season, the Secondary is feared and the Pats get to the Playoffs where they are competitive deep into January. Everything else will just have to wait and/or take care of itself.

Speaking of team captains: are the Pats the only team with elected captains for the season not to have the little "C" patches on players jerseys?

From accounts I've been reading the past few days, he is a hard worker, is a student of the game, and puts in tons of video/scouting study. He was also impressed by the way the Patriots conducted practice when he held joint practices as a Buc last year. Also, he has been on some crappy teams and wants to win. I think he is going to like being part of this no nonsense, professional team where winning is a priority. I am certainly not expecting a discount when it comes to the next contract, but hopefully it sounds like it might be a great match.

Leaders lead if they are captain or not.

Sounds to me like he sets high standards, doesn't like to lose and doesn't mind letting people know.

Good!

He isn't going to restructure. Lol!

The guy has said himself that he is all about the money. He is going to get every dollar he can. Hell, he has already had a major injury. He isn't going to miss any more chances to get top dollars if that is possible. Nice dream.

sounds like the voting process is the same at all levels of sports..from high school to professional.

If he restructures, I would give it a qualified MAYBE.

Also as to his GREED (never underestimate the OTHER guy's GREED!), that may be overstated. Now that he has enough money in the bank an extra million or two might not seem as important (utility theory). It's very important when you're on your rookie deal and one injury could mean your career is over and you go home relatively empty-handed.

I think that guy we haven't drafted yet could be a captain.

Rodney Harrison made team captain the first season he was with us so Revis can if he shows leadership.

He's already demonstrated leadership and was the Jets Captain and used to give pretty fiery speeches in the pregame huddle which is why I mentioned it.

I suspect he will be a defensive Captain.

I think I read that one or two other teams don't do it. The Ravens may have been one.
