Edelman is back

If you watched Brady the last two years, you've seen how bad Brady throws a deep ball. It's not just his WRs. His downfield throwing sucks, and defenses know it. We could have Calvin Johnson out there, and defenses would still play press. The only option for Brady at this point in his career is to get receivers that get open quick, or get him dominate pass catching TEs. A downfield pass catcher won't make a difference with Brady at QB.

I would agree, Brady has been seriously off on his deep passes. He'll hit them here and there but more often than not, they go long. I've wondered if he's just nervous of being intercepted so he tries to put in a place where only the receiver could go and get it.

Didn't help that the offense first 3 drives were 3,3,7. 3 punts, 1:21, 1:23, 3:43

Exactly. Turning it over on downs with a sack was painful to watch as well.

Any emergence of the contract details yet? I can see a 3 year deal with a max value of 10-12

Just speculating though

Lmao, do I need to refresh your mind with the perfect stallworth pass in 2012. Or the several ones to Dobson this year that he either dropped or got called back by a penalty. You do realize Brady doesn't throw a ball up for grabs and will sometimes over throw to live for another down.

You need to stop your whining buddy. Still laugh at you laughing at me thinking we wouldn't come back from Denver, and then sliding away for awhile.

Thanks for the laugh, because this is a joke of a post from you.

To the Edleman news:   :woohoo: :yeeha: :bounce: :whoo: :rapture:  :cheer2:

And something that made me raise an eyebrow..

Even though the #Patriots agreed to terms with Julian Edelman today, expect them to seek out one more free agent WR on the market.

Note: Ask Ian for more Smiley Emotes.. ;)

We'll find out soon enough what BB thinks about the WR corps, but I don't think it's a significant need. And barring another miraculous Moss-like trade or emergence of a no-name rookie, what we've got is what it'll be. Remember, this team won championships with the unspectacular but efficient likes of Givens, Brown and Branch.

I agree that we're not likely to see Moss 2.0. That's why I wanted Smith. He was the best of a pretty weak FA WR group.

I don't understand why you're down on the tight end element to this offense and how it can further enable the WRs. It worked incredibly well with Gronk and Hernandez complementing each other.

I'm not down on the TE. I'm realistic about the difference between a TE and a WR. Even when the team had

Moss
Welker
Gronk
Hernandez

there was still a problem at WR3, because Tate sucked. This team hasn't really fielded a full, quality WR crew since 2008.

Kenny Britt - Tennessee Titans - 2014 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Free agent WR Kenny Britt will visit with the Patriots on Sunday.

Britt visited with the Rams Saturday, but left without a contract. New England still has a need at receiver after bringing back Julian Edelman and could be a fit for Britt given Bill Belichick's ties to former Rutgers players. Britt has drawn interest from as many as five teams, but should only require a one-year, "prove-it" deal.

Those cheap patriots.

Great, great news. IMO this was a very important signing, and the team knew it. Not because Edelman is a star, but because they get to start the season with a WR who Brady is already completely on the same page with. They NEEDED that. It will help the offense click from game 1 regardless of who else they draft or sign.

Yup. I have MUCH more confidence in Edelman as our #1 guy going forward, than Amendola. He was brought up entirely in our system and finally blossomed last year. Hopefully we've got him at least for the next 3-4 years.

This really alleviates our need to draft a WR. I think we go with a different position in round 1 now but I still wouldn't rule out a round 2 WR if ASJ/Niklas are all off the board by then. Moncrief in round 2 would not shock me.

Very excited to see him back. I've been waiting to here this news. Now he's home again!!!

Thrilled to have Edelman back. Still wish he weren't our #1 WR and there was somebody else on the outside that could help (and don't say Gronk... at this point we can never assume full health for a whole season with him). Dobson will need to break out in a big way to open things up underneath.

Glad Edelman is back. Hopefully we see a vet added to help outside the hashes.

Dobson will need to stay healthy and continue to improve as he did in games in which he was healthy last year.

Woohoo! :rocker: I had a feeling JE would remain a Patriot but was starting to get worried. IMO losing JE would have been the equivalent of the Welker snafu--unnecessary and F'd up by both sides.

I don't see how you can possibly downplay the importance of this signing b/c of the possibility of Gronk getting more catches, Dobson taking over as Brady's primary WR target, or of Amendola living up to his billing this year. All I know is, like Welker did before him, there were times when Edelman literally kept the Pats passing offense in the game last season. Guys like him or Welker have proven to be invaluable in the Pats offense.

Phew. After missing on Smith, Edelman just made the most sense.

Glad the drama is over. Now I can relax until draft.

Glad hes back he was money when the chips were down last season.
