Has this been talked about enough? I like many others do not have time to go through the mega threads that have been created but what are the thoughts on this?
Was Belichick gauging Revis with Schiano? Did Mike Lombardi push him in free agency to do more?

What are the thoughts here?

BB isn't stupid. We just lost our #1 CB, and we were torched without him last season. He HAD to get Revis.

Patriots got bullied in the AFCCG by the Broncos' bigger, more physical WR's. Belichick is countering with big, physical CB's, which is a wise move. This should also help the pass rush get more opportunities. I just wonder if Revis was the target all along or if it was a reaction to Talib.

No

Talib was a risk only worth taking if he came cheap. Belichick knew he would walk for more money and had his back up plan already in place. Revis never looked anyplace else but NE. The deal was already done.

Belichick has already done business with Tampa in Blount and Talib.
Belichick taught Schiano the NE defense at Rutgers. Revis is already 1 year ahead of another FA CB coming in off the street.

I would really have to question Belichick's football acumen if he needed the opinion of an outsider to sway him or "push" him toward signing arguably the best defensive player in the league.

In other words, Schiano and Lombardi's influence were probably minute in this circumstance. It's not often you get a player of Revis' caliber on the open market. If anything this just shows coach Belichick's ability as a closer to land what I consider the most significant free agent signing since Manning to the Broncos.

the best CB in the NFL since Ty Law and Deion Sanders was available for just 2 million more then the starting CB that left to the team that knocked them out of the playoffs he had to make that move

Look at the schedule next year, he's going to prioritize the off-season moves based on the match-ups with who they are going to play against next year to give them the best chance to win those games.

Although I posted this photo earlier, I thought I'd point out that Schiano (left) is stepping heavily on BB's right foot while emphasizing his point re., Revis. You just can't see it. Lombardi (right), meanwhile, was strategically buying multiple rounds of drinks.
