Julius Peppers: The forgotten FA

Whatever happened to those vets that have made their money and in mid 30s go to a winner to get a ring? 49ers used to get them in their prime. Remember RIcky Jackson a pro bowl LB taking vet minimum? Just 1-2 of those types puts us over the top. Peppers has made the money, and he's known to relish BBs outside LB/elephant position. I remember him saying so last time he was a FA.

Greed.

Having 50 million dollars in the bank these days isn't good enough to "accept" an offer of just another 4-5 million per year. Gotta bleed everyone for the last possible buck. Some of these guys have made close to 100 million dollars during their careers. It's disgusting.

We have 10 positions of need a limited amount of funds. I don't want us to sign Peppers. I suspect that we have at most one more $4M a year player left and that will likely be a WR.

You very well may be right.

It hasn't seemed as though BB has cared to spend 4 million or so at rotational DE/pass rushing specialist in the past lately, and all of these guys are going to command more money than that anyway. I think Allen and Peppers are looking at 6-7m per year still myself. I'd be completely shocked if Belichick decided to pay that much for a part time player.

As Andy keeps on telling us, Belichick won't spend that kind of money on a "backup". In any case, we need upgrades to Carter and Bequette.

Yea I wouldn't disagree, but I guess it's just fun to kick the idea around.

Peppers has a bigger chance to take a buddy deal than Allen IMO but I doubt either will honestly.

would rather have jared allen opposite of cjones and rotate in ninko.

Jared Allen is supposedly looking for $12M a year. Good luck with that.

Going to Green Bay per josina Anderson. 3 yr deal

I have to wonder why. Aside from 2009, the guy has never been a part of a winner in his career. He signed a massive deal last time he was a FA and played that contract out. You'd think he'd take a little less for a shot at some hardware with a contender but I guess not. Can't fault him for making that money but I honestly thought he would be a "take a little less for a shot at winning the big one" type of guy.

Get Phillips! Last good pass rusher aside from Allen out there that I can think of.

I wanted Peppers but not on a 3 year deal worth up to $30mil.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
What kind of $$ are #Packers putting up? Agent Carl Carey says it's a three-year deal that can be worth $30M. Peppers gets $8.5M in Year 1

I agree with Froob, Phillips looks like the best option left.

If it is curtains for Vince, and all indicators are it is, (age, injury, pride) etc the team lacks leadership presence. You can plug in all the bodies you want but you still need an attitude! Phillips, Peppers and their ilk are good players. Jared Allen bring the play like them but also brings the Passion!!

Sign Jared Allen!!!!!!!!

I'm sure that's the case with some players, but the fact that the players we're talking about are financially set, then maybe it isn't worth it to them to go through another rough season for a lower figure.

Peppers still got 8.5 per and 30M. Even tho packers are a contender in the NFC, that seems high.
