With the Steve Smith signing, I'm told the Ravens are out of the running for Julian Edelman now. They did have an interest.

Julian not seeing the money

Edelman left Niners without an offer... Sounds like Niners are out..
It's seemly likely that he will be back with NE..

Still, I believe we do need a #1 WR, even if Edelman comes back..

If Edelman is forced to come back, is it at the same price as the original deal we offered him?

I believe the 3yr offer is still available for him, if he chooses. I think it's "take it or leave it".

It is bad that the offer is LESS than what Amendola got...

I am relieved that the SF 49er interview did not result in an offer for Julian. The Ravens signed Steve Smith, so there is no interest there anymore.

The prospects of JE returning to the Pats are looking up.

At the same time Spikes has not gotten much interest and is interviewing in Buffalo. I'd love to get the thumper back to ensure that the Pats can stuff the run, even if Vince can't help.:D:D

Spikes isn't coming back to the Patriots. Bill Belichick has no use for players who pass up the opportunity to work with the Pats staff during the offseason to train with "some guy in Miami".

Not true, he had a nice year with Tebow throwing him the ball. I think people are selling Decker a little short. Not a great player but, a quality wide out. Broncos are going to miss him.

Agreed, the pendulum has really swung on him. At the start of FA he seemed overrated, and now it's the opposite. He's a good WR. Nowhere near elite, and not irreplaceable, but still good. Not the kind of guy that you can easily replace.

Edelman is way more clutch than Amendola. Amendola better produce this year if he's not traded. When I think "Amendola" I think him dropping that perfect Brady pass in the endzone very Welker like as the game clock ticked down in whatever that game was. Saints?

I hope Edelman comes back but it is a shame Amendola has that contract when Edelman's production shattered his in tangible and intangible ways

I agree. Hopefully, Amendola lives up to his contract this season.

I believe you are thinking of the MIA game. Amendola got a concussion against NO. And I find it hard to blame him for not coming up with that catch.

When healthy he is a good receiver, he just needs to stay healthy (no small task).

It was right in his hands. A tough play but missing it didn't fill me with confidence on his clutch factor. That's all I'm saying.

Assuming Dobson comes back 100 percent and given the anticipated growth of Boyce and Thompkins (alongside Edelman and Amendola), I think we'll be just fine at WR. Having a pass-catching TE to work in with Gronk is where the difference will come.

I have a feeling no matter what happens Edelman will give the Patriots the opportunity to match any offer. He is very close to Tom Brady and not in the same way Welker was, Edelman is more of a little brother whereas Welker was a friend. Edelman was quoted saying he moved to CA just to be closer to Brady, and they have been working out together this offseason.

Tom Brady, Julian Edelman work out in California - ESPN

I am not saying that means he will be back here, I am just saying I think he will do what Welker did not do and give the Patriots a chance to match the offer, at that point it is up to them. I think they will resign him, last offseason Talib did not resign until the 3/16 and Vollmer did not until 3/25, this is not unusual for the Patriots.

This is my opinion –

- Dobson is going to be a stud, he reminds me of a poor man AJ Green, and I think he can make the leap as Jeffrey did in Chicago last season.
- Boyce is a special talent, I cannot he believe he goes so unnoticed around here in terms of talent; he is sort like the WR version of Jamie Collins. He is a bigger, strong, faster, and more agile TY Hilton.
- Thompkins is not going to make the team in 2014, he was very much like Justin Francis is other JAGs of the past, he came into camp worked very hard and picked up the offense quicker than the other more talented rookies, this earned him snaps early on but as the other players caught on their superior talent shined through.
- Gronkowski is very underrated amongst all of us, this is a player who when healthy is in the category of only Johnson and Peterson of players who completely redefine an offense.

My bet is any team but NE. Belichick is too big a hardass to modify his initial offer one iota.

Why bother posting if thats what you bring?

I'd be shocked if Thompkins didn't make the team.

I wouldn't be surprised if other teams get into the mix like NYJ, Texans or Miami

Or Julian is looking at the Pats new secondary and deciding that he'd rather watch them hitting other guys than getting hit.

I continue to hold out hope.

Patriots working to get a deal done with WR Julian Edelman. Most likely scenario all along was a return there. Few other options available
