Darrelle Revis' deal with #Patriots includes an option for 2015 at $20M, including a $12 roster bonus.

Revis got a $10M signing bonus and has a $1.5M gtd base salary for 2014. Another $500K available in per-game roster bonuses

If #Patriots exercise option before end of 2014 league year, he'd get a $12M roster bonus April 1, 2015 and have a base of $7.5M in '15.

That is a club option for 2015 on Revis, per details filed with the NFLPA. Must be exercised by end of '14 league year.

Saying it lays the groundwork for an extension. Would be $7.5 mill base salary and extend the the bonus over the extra years.

My guess this is to lower his cap hit. So it is a two year deal that really is an one year deal. Based on my math, he only has a $6.5 million cap hit this year.

‏What does this mean in terms of cap, anyone??

Because there's the option on Revis' deal, I believe that splits his cap hit, and makes his cap hit $6.5 million for 2014.

His $10 million signing bonus would get spread over two years. So rather than him counting $12 million against the cap, he will count I think $6.5 million vs. the cap and up another $500k if he plays all 16 games.

I'm thinking it looks more like 11.5 + up to .5 THIS year.

And we could extend him out at that rate for 3 more years (12 million/3=4+7.5 base+.5 playtime).

Miguel?

EDIT: Apparently just having an option clause allows you to split the cap hit?

This is very good news, so we have 6m more in cap than we thought we did??

Just when you think the deal can't get any better, it does. Fantastic job from the FO. Don't forget how much cap $ there will be next year with the rise, Brady extension and no Hernandez dead space.

This deal is better than I thought. So the Pats still have about $10-11 million of cap room left this year before anymore moves. And next year, they have tons of cap room and could even afford to pick up the option (not ideal) if the want to keep Revis and not get a revised deal done (which would be likely if they do keep him). If they cut him, the $5 million dead money won't be that bad especially if they get back cap money from Hernandez.

Anyone know when the press conference will be?

Hold on...does the option preclude the use of the franchise tag for season 2?

Not sure, but I imagine you'll hear the wailing emanating from the Jersey swamps when it does. :singing:

That is how much money he gets this year, but not cap money. The official contract is a two year, $32 million deal, but it is really an one year $12 million deal with funny money in the second year to spread some money into 2015.

I think if they decline the option he becomes a free agent. Therefore, they either exercise the option and pay him $20 million next year or work out an extension at some point this year.

The extra year also makes his cap hit $5 million less, which helps with signings this year. Good business especially with the expected big bump in the cap next year. Bravo BB.

I'm reading yes. Which means that if they don't pick up the year 2 option, they get zilch in comp picks if he goes elsewhere.

So really, it's a 2/32 deal...so $16m a year average :singing:

That 2nd year is clearly there for the Pats to spread the bonus money and for Revis to have some leverage on an extension, works for both parties.

So what would things look like if they extended him through 2016 sometime this season?

This deal is quickly becoming like the Griswald's membership in the Jelly of the Month Club.......the gift that keeps giving.

Kudos to you William.

That might be better on the cap this year, but who would pull the trigger on a $20 million option year? That's just a back-ended 16per.

So they'll probably negotiate something longer term and this give them 5+m this year to spend?

The Pats got a comp pick for Stallworth after failing to pick up his option in 2008.
