never thought it would happen. fantastic. what a move.

I dreamt this would happen, but didn't think it actually would!

Better news to wake up today than yesterday!

AWESOME News! Kudos to Bill pullin'trigga and gettin Revis and Revis wantin it to happen to come play for us. I always had a rivalry's respect for Revis regardless what he may have said to Mediots but that all comes with territory of a rivalry. He did participate in Top 100 interview for Brady callin him Best where he could have just passed.

Now let's work it to get either
Browner/DRC/Cro/Finnagan
Edelman/WR

Thought I'd throw this in, Decker signs with jets.....
Decker is gonna MISS Manning but not as much as Geno Smith will!

Man do I hope Revis has realised winning is more important than money... especially when you have been and will continue to be paid handsomely

I dont think Revis really wanted to go back to the Jets circus.

Sanchez is still there and there are signs of Geno being a bust too.

Man, I'm still soaking this all in. I haven't felt like this during FA since Randy Moss. I always wanted Revis in a Patriots uniform... bad!

Never been so happy about Revis being in the AFC East
I know the Jets missed him. Now they're reunited... twice a year :)

Imagine if youre Revis.

He gets to face Sanchez or Geno, EJ Manuel and Ryan Tannehill 6 times. Theres 10 interceptions right there. On a good day, Geno can throw 3 himself.

Just got up - AHHHHH!! - I wasn't dreaming - Revis is in the house!!

Love having the player (assuming he is up to his standards). Though, it might have been nice to see a deal that was essentially the 12 year deal plus options to extend him for 2-3 more years.

not sure why he was taking a 1 year deal, but won't complain in 2014.

For one yr the pats got the better plyer in revis vs talib. Of course he called belichick a jerk and randy moss a bum but nothing works like a 12 mill $ paycheck.:)

I wonder how much of that was Rex prodding his players to shoot their mouths off regarding anything Pats?

Revis never struck me as a bigmouth like Bart Scott and seems like a guy who just wants to do his job and not really get involved in all the drama and nonsense that Rex loves. I see Revis having no issue acting like the Patriots players.

I am still surprised at the price:

With cornerbacks striking huge deals across the league, it was odd to see the best one of the bunch quickly agree to a one-year deal in a little more than three hours after hitting the market. Even odder, Revis reportedly wouldn't restructure his deal to facilitate a trade and then had no issue taking lesser money from the Patriots after being released. That money is still substantial, but it was a little out of character for a player who has fought for every dollar he's received in the NFL.

But one thing is clear:
It's hard not to be reminded of Talib's comments from earlier this year. "Revis is in his own category, man," he said in September. "He's the truth. All the corners in the league, we know it. Some guys might say something, (Seattle's) Richard Sherman might say something, but the only reason he's saying something is because we know what Revis is. He's at his own level."

That's kinda been my thought. If someone gave me $12 million, I might be tempted to rethink some of my previously negative comments about them. :confused2:

On another positive note Revis does not count as a qualifying UFA so he would not eliminate the possibility of a compensatory pick for Talib.

Problem? This is a good problem. It's not an absolute guarantee that he's still worth it. They landed a guy who now has to prove it. This is a $12m risk--which is good for the Patriots, not bad.

Damn straight it is a good problem. Some commenters here are "on dope".
Who would you rather have? (A) Talib who no matter how he plays or how much he sits out is guaranteed about 30 million dollars and guaranteed a job for about 4 years, and hasn't played a full season since 2009 OR (B) Revis who has no job at the end of 2014 and is looking to impress next year's market place that he is the best CB out there, and he has played a full 16 game season in 2013, 2011, 2010 for 13 games, 2009, 2008, 2007.
It would be great if we could have wrapped Revis up for a couple of years but things are rarely perfect. Revis wants to impress and he has chosen the Patriots to do that (the one year money helped). Bottom line, we now have one of the best CB's in the game AND he is extremely motivated to prove he is best AND he is durable. The Patriots actually have one of the best CB that has played for them in decades AND we may actually have have him for our biggest playoff games (unlike the last 2 seasons -- yes, a shot at Talib for his comments today).

BB did great here. He upgraded the CB spot yet did not expose the Patriots future cap health.
I can't wait to see how Revis fits in -- it will be interesting. Remember, this guy came from dysfunctional organizations. Now he will be playing among the most professional and winning atmospheres there are. Let's see if he takes to it, takes to BB's ways, takes to the Patriot way (the real one, not the made up media one). If he does, who knows, maybe BB will finally believe he has found a non QB that he will break the bank for. Not likely but it's a hope for those that can't be ok with 'one year'....

The real question is why he didn't make sure there was a no Franchise tag clause in the deal. Pats can always tag him if they can't make a deal.

I asked my wife to call me at work last night if anything happened (Revis, Edelman. etc) as I knew I wouldn't have time to check. When it finally quieted down (I'm a restaurant manager) I went on twitter just as the news broke. It was a pretty surreal, awesome moment. The best was trying to tell my non-football staff how significant it was, lol...

Now I'm just waiting for one of the sites I buy chinese knock off jerseys from to start selling some Revis jerseys, my $25 is ready and waiting, lol...

Ya basically Pats traded Talib for Revis and a 3rd round pick

Patriots actually signed a big name free agent?!?!?!?!?!?!

We must be in the Twilight Zone or something

Any shmoe team can sign a big time free agent - - look at the Redskins.

The REAL accomplishment is that they signed a big time free agent at a substantial hometown discount. 25% LESS than he made last year and a 1 year deal, so they have the possibility of either a renegotiation, franchising in future years, or they get a 3rd round pick next year if he leaves (Stupid Tampa Bay got zilch for their $16 million!).

Mack Herron's post #426 with the link is enlightening. If he 1) refused to restructure with TBay to facilitate a trade and 2) signed with the Pats within 3.5 hours of being a free agent when there were at least 10 teams with MORE salary cap space on his tail and 3) signed for 25% LESS than he made last year (this is Darrelle Revi$ we are talking about, folks) then that leads me to only one conclusion - - - he was aiming solely for the Patriots from the get go.

Makes sense - - as Triumph pointed out earlier, he now gets to face Manuel, Tannehill and Ge-NO 6 games per year - - if that doesn't pad his stats, nothing will.

This guy is MOTIVATED to be here and gave up short term bucks to do so. He's never done that before.

THAT is the real story!

Because if he gets franchised he's gonna get a pay raise. Talib got $26m guaranteed over 6 years. Revis is making basically half that in one year.

He's made about $84m in his career. This $12m will put him at $96m. And that's real money not contract language money.

I think at this point he maybe fine going year to year making $12m+ and it all being fully guaranteed.

I kinda wonder this about him. This really seems to be something that satisfies him. The holdouts in Jersey point to this as well. The guy might just like single-year, 100% guaranteed cash deals. It's not as sexy as a $100 million blockbuster, but he's got quite the bank vault at this point.

Been thinking this morning, who's the happiest player on the Pats D, hearing this news?

Chandler Jones seems most likely to me, he could have a monstrous year playing in front of Revis, DMac, and more experienced (improved) Ryan + Dennard combo.
