Broncos sign Aqib Talib

The Broncos have gotten a lot better this free agency, no doubt. DeMarcus Ware, Aqib Talib, and T.J. Ward...wow. It doesn't take an expert to see that the Broncos are doing all they can to beef up that defense...doing a hell of a job at it too...gotta admit that even if you hate them. They are going to be the team to beat in the AFC next year, no doubt.

Now THAT'S a "happy ending".

absolutely.
classic kraft/belichick move.
they didn't mortgage the future.
they upgraded the secondary.
they got a guy whose market value could go up or down after one more season and they could be in play for a reasonable, long term contract.

and...
...drum roll...

they drove both the broncos and jets out of their ******* minds.
good day's work IMHO.

No reason to trash on Talib's performance here. Stats or not, the Pats defense was "one thing" with him on the field and "another thing" with him off of it. He did well when he played, but he wasn't without issues, so while I'm VERY satisfied with his performance here (minus the AFCCGs), I'm good right now...

In fact, I think it's New England's turn to feel like this...

certainly.....he helped here......but getting revis for one year (or more) after the broncos do the 6/57 20M guarantees.....it's like 'this has to be a joke'

elway bamboozled himself

Not really. Talib's contract pays about $9 mil a season and only about 3 years worth is guaranteed. Champ Bailey was making about $10 mil for the past 3 years. I think Talib for $1 mil less isn't a big deal.

I don't see how Tampa Bay is feeling that well right now either.

Revis is clearly much better than Talib, and the Pats gave up nothing to get him. Amazing!

My only regret with Talib is that I wish he hadn't taken a shot at the Pats with his comment about injury reporting.

Most fans here were thankful and wished him well when he left. I wish he took that same high road with the Pats.

Some notes from Albert Breer on Talib's contract details:

Aqib Talib's 6-year deal with Denver is more like a 3-year, $27 million deal. More reasonable than advertised. $18M thru 2. $12M in Year 1.

Interesting Talib and Revis will make the same amount in '14. Also, only that 2014 figure of $12M is fully guar for Talib. Injury guar $26M.

So barring a bad injury, the Broncos can get out of the Talib deal at pretty much any time after this season.

And to take it one step further....

He only sees that 12m this year IF he plays in all 16 games, which is probably unlikely.

The only reason stats were posted is due to some feeling the need to completely overrate him while here, so that's what it showed.

Another thing to keep in mind is that Talib (or any physical man CB for that matter) allowed McCourty to then go to safety, which was a huge hole. On top of that, Dennard was brought in at that time to start as the CB2, and Arrington moved to the "star" position where he is best.

It wasn't "just" Talib's presence that showed a different defense, it was the whole picture--but I don't think anyone would disagree with you that our defense looked much better when he played well. The only problem was that he didn't always play as well as some remember due to his tendency to be oft-injured.

As these details emerge, it looks more reasonable for Denver. I wonder where the point of departure was with the Patriots? Could they have known this was Revis money?

I don't see the Broncos being "out of their ******* minds." Over the past 48 hours, the Broncos have likely improved their team more than the Patriots did, so I don't exactly see them panicking.

Wait until talib and ware get hurt again....only a matter of time

Well, that's kind of the point. His play while here in NE has often been overrated in my opinion, and the stats from this season pretty much show that.
Stats for cornerbacks are ridiculously nebulous things. Fact is a good CB doesn't get throw at, which makes their stats suffer, but certainly doesn't mean they're not doing their job.

You know I've mentioned this in several threads (probably this one too. ;) ) but I still haven't gotten any feedback on the fact that the Broncos have some serious issues to deal with on their OL, like missing 3 or 4 of their OL starters. Who cares what they did to their defense. They have a LOT of holes to fill on that offense, beside Eric Decker, and not much cap space to deal with them.

To say that about Ware shows tremendous ignorance. Guy has missed 3 games in 9 years.

As for Talib.... he has played in more games over the past 3 years than Revis, Gronkowski or Jerod Mayo. (with Mayo it's a tie) So I guess we have to assume those 3 guys are all getting hurt too?

It's a legit point, but certainly nothing that cannot be overcome by the Broncos offense.

Talib and revis have essentially the same salary next year.

Lmao

Understood. It also shows that Talib wasn't the same player when he returned from his injury just as well though.

Like I've said a million times--he's one of the better CBs in the game when healthy, but unfortunately for him that hasn't seemed to happen often enough.

I think that's where Peyton Manning's quickest release time in the NFL comes in.

Look at his career stats with sacks, and you'll see what I mean.

It's obvious that he didn't have top of the line OL in every single year. Actually, not even close.

All I have to say on this is that I am really annoyed that we didn't re -sign him and he goes to the damn team that ended his season !!
