We. Have. Revis.

Revis was the best defensive player in the league before he got injured.

Two years removed from the ACL injury, he should be back to that level.

Tampa Bay was trying to use Revis in zone coverage a lot of the year, especially at first. That's not who he is...I saw the same Revis last year when they put him man-to-man.

Re: Revis' Agent denies he signed with the Patriots.

If I were a guessing man I would say the terms have been agreed and Revis needs to pass his physical which will be a fait accompli. At that point, I'm hoping that's what makes the move official.

He needs to pass his physical and sign the contract.

The tweeter is not his agent, it's someone who works for him.

This might be a dumb question but will he count as $12million against the cap? Or could it be structured in a way where he receives some as a signing bonus so that only x amount counts against our cap?

1 year contract = 100% cap hit.

Soulless mercenary? So is Mankins, so is Wilfork and so is Edelman, apparently. I don't blame Talib for bolting. Short window to make as much as you can - and the whole time, you have agents, managers and everyone else trying to stuff their hands in your pockets.

Players (even those who are married to world-class Supermodels) have every right to grab as much $$$$ as they can. Ask Zuseviks, or Gregory, or Moe how fast it can all change.

Revis for 12-million is a steal, especially on a new team.

I wasn't talking about Talib, I would have done exactly what he did if I was offered that crazy contract. I meant Mevis is a soulless mercenary. Just look at what he did multiple times while he was with the Jets, holding on for a bigger contract while being paid pretty darn well. Then the contract he signed with the Bucs, it begged for him to be traded from team to team for 5 years while being paid 16 mil a year. I don't think Revis for 12 mil is a steal, its fits in my book as borderline acceptable. 12 mil is ALOT of money for one player even one as good as Revis. He blows his ACL game 3 and that is a whole lot of screwed we become. Where as you split that between 3 decent players... eh its a difference in opinion. I'm ok with the signing not jumping for joy like most.

who, the agent ..or Revis?

I hope Dennard & Ryan can absorb anything they can from Revis, especially Dennard. He's a solid #2 already and many CBs make a big leap in year three. (Peterson, Revis, Haden, etc) Learn from the master. :) Maybe he'll even show Arrington a thing or two. :D

I don't know if this has been posted yet (haven't read the entire thread), but the 2014 franchise tag number for a CB was $11.834M. So essentially if the Pats had franchised Aqib Talib in order to maintain control of him, they would have paid almost exactly what they are paying Darrelle Revis on a 1 year deal.

Yes, I was reading that. This is a great deal for both sides. Biggest downside is if Revis gets hurt - show his confidence in his knee and health. The guy is definitely the anti-Manning - he thrives in situations where the pressure is on - self-inflicted or not - I cannot wait to see him in the playoffs - and with a couple more nice FA moves possibly a SB. The Jets games just got a whole lot more fun, too. I cannot wait to see him outperform Talib AND do it the entire year - at least he has a MUCH better track record in that regard. Cannot wait to what else unfolds in the next few days and months.

who, the agent ..or Revis?

The Tweeter is a "friend" and business manager for Revis. He posts on his tweeter bio that he has a degree in criminal justice and he's a sneaker connoisseur.

My intuition says "hanger on."

Neil schwarz is his agent.

Any player can get hurt at any time in the NFL. That's always a risk. But a 1 year deal limits the potential exposure in that scenario.

Dude, relax. We have Kyle Arrington. We have the best CB insurance in the league

Rah Rah has chimed in:

Umm, you aren't getting a Revis in his prime, you are getting a lesser player with a bad knee that is now closer to 30, he had problems with that knee all year last year, he has yet to return the form he had, no telling what you are getting. But you did lose a player in Talib who had one of the better years at CB last year that will be difficult for Revis to top, even if healthy.

Revispalooza! **merged Revis** <<REVIS TO PATS>> /Nothing Official Yet/ - Page 76

So 28 years old is past his prime? He has had knee problems all last year? Talib was better (although he was injured and I am pretty sure Rah Rah said he sucked when he was still a Patriot)? Well, he was for the first six weeks and not after that.

The Jets fans = A gift that keeps on giving.

Steve Smith and Edelman to come tomorrow maybe? Gotta get some weapons for Brady :eyebrows:

Great job by BB and the pats FO getting this done. Still more work to do but you can't not be pumped as a Pats fan right now.

If Revis plays like he did pre injury, he could be the best CB in the Belichick era since Ty Law. Possibly even better than Law. Very few CBs track the ball like Revis and hopefully that will rub off on the other NE DBs.

Revis was/is a true shutdown CB. Half the field is off limits. The Pats havent had a CB like that since Law left.

Going through some Tampa Bay message boards for their reaction, since I haven't watched much of Revis post trade/injury. Aside from a bitter few, vast majority are pretty upset, thinks it's great for NE at the price. One fan who sounded pretty level headed to me stated that down the stretch of the year Revis looked as good as he ever has - I know not much of a source but just throwing it out there.

Thrilled with the signing...

Wish it could have been multi-year, in order to lower this year's cap hit but, in the end, getting the player is more important than greasing the cap.

Now they need to get that Vince contract ironed out and make some of Miguel's other cap savings moves. Daddy still needs a WR and a couple more defenders.

OK, time to go revel in the wailings of the Jets fans.....

Just sent a txt to a guy I used to work with who went to High school with Revis.....he gave me his personal cell number. If it were you would you call and congratulate??

hard to teach talent....Revis simply has more of it than the others.
