Darrelle Revis Rumors and Speculation

He doesn't shut down half the field by himself. He shuts down the best WR of the other team.

If he takes cap space away from the McCourty extension/Jimmy Graham or other TE to complement Gronk (our REAL deficit in 2013)/WR move/Safety etc..........

Once again, if there were no salary cap, I'd be in your camp, Kontra.

Do I want him here? You bet!

Do I want him here and they cannot extend McCourty, get a decent complementary TE, get a legit Safety, etc.? No.

There are plenty of ways to be creative to get Revis in here. I'm not worried about a complementary Tight End, or another Safety because the Pats weren't paying big money for those positions anyway. If they cut Wilfork they have $8M right there.

I think that Kirwin might be a little low with his speculation. I think it would take 6 years $72 million. Kirwin's thinking of $32 million in the first two years is probably about right. That would let Revis look at the $16 million a year number he had in Tampa.

As has been mentioned, they can free up extra money by cutting Wilfork and Adrian Wilson for McCourty's extension. This draft is deep. Very deep at almost all positions except, arguably, DE where the Pats should still be able to get a solid prospect in the first round. This is do-able for New England. Whether or not they want to buck up and bring him in is another story.

after Talib is no more with us i hope we can get Revis

so...let's hope for it

Pfft...enough of this Reeevis talk and let's get serious for a second.

What I want to know is, what the hell are we going to do to bring Tebow back?

Wait, seriously, is that an actual Borges quote?

Why yes it is. I remember reading that **** article back in the day when I didn't know better and getting worked up a bit.

I made it my siggy line during the 2010 draft when people were gnashing their teeth.

If you watched the 2013 season you would understand that the complementary TE and the complementary Safety were the biggest reasons there was no duckboat parade this year.

I get all this, but I hope you realize that complementary TEs, safeties, even multiple of these, pale in importance to a single CB of Revis's caliber.

You're a very bad boy.

So in other words, 1 year and $15M more than what the oft-injured Aqib Talib got. Done

You're going to have some awesome material from this thread!

A TE like Amaro or S-Jenkins via the draft would be fine by me.

I wish we'd go after Pollard at safety. He should come reasonably and is the physical presence we need.

If the Patriots were to sign Revis for, say, 4 years with an AAV of about $12m and a first year hit of $6m-$8m, do they immediately jump to the top of the list in the "Who's having the best FA season so far?" department

Re: Darrelle Revis Available

I always think the Patriots should go all in, maximize Brady's chances but this time around I think I would rather have them:
  • Sign a Guard
  • Sign additional depth (DE, DT)
  • Bring in a couple veteran JAG recievers
  • Bring in a JAG CB

Draft for BPA (within positions of focus)

It is just too much for one player, but if they do pull it off I would love it.

You're right. The Bucaneers were awesome last year!

Oh really, it had nothing to do with D. Thomas schooling the Pats all over the field in the AFCCG?

Would it make me a bad person if I wished for Manning to tear his ACL in the first game of the season?

no, you're very nice. I want him to do it right before the playoffs when they don't have the time to season up a replacement. :)
