Broncos sign Aqib Talib

But aren't the pats going to rebuild (and probably suck) for a few years when Brady retires in two or three seasons anyway?

Not likely. The way BB is building the team we are not going to see a Colts like season when peyton went down.

the biggest hurdle is going to be getting a really good young QB in the next 2 years

Exactly, the team will not be "rebuilt," instead they will be plugging in a QB that has been groomed behind Brady.

Am I too late for the Talib bashing/rationalizing?!

Let's see....
He got injured last year on a dirty pick play! He's unreliable!
He's a top 4 CB and got top 4 CB money, no way Jose!
He smoked weed like 5 years ago!
Broncos are the redskins now, because they signed good players!
He is one strike from suspension!
I hope Revis comes and we pay him even more per year than Talib got? So what he has an ACL!

Am I doing this right??

fixed your post

Enjoy the sour grapes!

To be fair, every Redskins fan I've talked to down here in DC was like "they were in the chase for him but when I saw that contract, I was like they can have him."

- He hasn't played a full season in the league yet.
- He played on a top 4 CB level for 2 months in his entire career.
- He got traded because of charakter issues 2 years ago
- Broncos are betting everything on next year
- Revis is on a whole different plant than Talib.
- Revis had an ACL in 2012.

Fair play to Talib. He bet on himself and took the one year contract. I would've loved to get Talib for a reasonable deal but 6 years 57m$ is too much.

Well the colts kind of sucked on purpose because they knew Luck was in the draft.

Pats need that get the QB in here soon then unless they think Mallet is that guy. Not to mention that Brady almost alone carries this team to a few victories a year. Even if they get a really good young QB its hard not to think this team will not struggle for a year or two.

You got us there. Other than the AFCCG this year, Talib has been a picture of good health and never missed a game.

Talib is an injury risk. He has never been healthy and productive for an entire season for his entire career. That isn't Patriots homers rationalization. That is the fact.

I was ok with the Pats signing Talib for a decent deal, but the money he got was ridiculous especially since he got knocked out the game in the most crucial game for the Pats two years in a row.

You forgot to add...and yet somehow we will still win the Superbowl.:D

Damn man, that's depressive.

You need to question though when you have possibly the best QB of all time, have we done enough to try and win it all..sure this "value bargain shopping" has worked to get us to the AFC- championship game along with some luck. but we HAVE NOT won a superbowl in 9years. nearly a decade having one of the top QB's of all time. something needs to change with the way the team does business

if we dont go cheap on Deion Branch..maybe we win a superbowl in 2006

Disagree.

The Krafts run the team with one, often-stated, strategic objective going into every season: be competitive to win the division and get into the playoffs. They don't talk about SB's, unlike Snyder and Wrecks.

I am convinced that they run it with that objective because they understand that they are playing in a League with a winner take all, "one loss and you're done" playoff format where luck, official's calls and "breaks" often determine the winner. They plan to be as good as they can be every season while always keeping the big picture in view; they don't waste too much energy on worrying about what might look good one year with one or another player.

If an official doesn't review a call on the Tuck play, they don't even get to play to go to SB XXXVI.

Who knows what happens in XXXVIII if that K doesn't go OB and they don't get the ball on the 40 with time winding down? "Mo" was definitely heading in the wrong direction at that point.

If a guy who never plays another down in the NFL doesn't make a one in a million catch with Rodney on his back, they have TB's fourth ring and go 19--0.

If Welker doesn't drop a tough but catch-able ball (or, if you think that's unfair to Wes, if an inconsistent and erratic Eli Manning doesn't make one perfect sideline pass in that same game from deep in his own territory) they have his fifth ring.

They understand that anything can happen once you get into the Playoffs and they don't try to please us fans by making every move that we think they "should" make.

On the Branch point...who else might they not have signed if they had resigned him?

That's the crazy part. We'll be right there.

I haven't listed any hidden gems or surprises, but we always seem to find them. I haven't lost faith, I'm just listing the probable/inevitable.

Krafts do nothing which is the best way to do it. BB runs the organization, Krafts collect and pay cheques

We should never forget whose capital is on the line and at risk here.

Belichick "runs the organization" only because he sees reality the same was as do the Krafts. If he saw it differently, he wouldn't still be around. He wouldn't want to work for owners with a radically different philosophy and they wouldn't want to turn their organization over to someone whose worldview widely diverged from their's. I am sure there are bumps in the road, but they all occur and get resolved behind closed doors (except for that business about Kraft calling Belichick a "schmuck" for Spygate :) ).

While the Krafts, unlike Dan Snyder, Jerry Jones and Woody Johnson, certainly don't "meddle" in every decision, they do, however, like all successful, smart business owners, set the strategic direction for their organization and expect the hired (albeit very well-paid) help to execute against their objectives or be on their way.

I think we're incredibly naive is we think that the Patriots' organization is anything but an "our way or the highway" kind of place to work; in this case, the Krafts and Belichick are on the same "road" and any differences are never a (public) issue.

Lets see what they do. Its a shame we didn't lock up a decent corner last night.

its day 1. Admittedly. Not a great one. But I'm not writing the season off because someone went full ****** with Talibs contract.
To be honest. I think the team offered Edelman a pretty good deal. If he doesn't come back. So be it.

I will have hope because this organization does good, but it sucks, I hear Revis and such but I doubt we go after him or anyone worth good bucks.

By the way people are running their mouths about how the team is ran, you'd think the Patriots haven't made the playoffs in the past three years. Yet they played in the AFC championship three times and a Super Bowl. That takes a good GM and great salary cap management.

The Broncos season ended in embarrassment last season, and the defense wasn't the reason behind that. They get a random number of games with a dice roll on playoff games with Talib. They payed him like he was the most durable player in the game. If you can't see why New England didn't agree/attempt to match that, it's only because you don't want to open your eyes.

This team will play itself into the playoffs and do what they do. Compete.

Every team but one loses eventually, so not winning the Super Bowl isn't some unlikely outcome that should shame us all. They don't have a Super Bowl win since the 2004 season? OH MY GOD! Let's cry together in pure rage at the jerk Bill Bilicheck because he wont sign every player I've seen have a highlight on Sports Center. You know, some teams still haven't won one Super Bowl? Most teams haven't won a Super Bowl since 2004. A lot of teams have a handful of playoff appearances in that time. Some have zero.
Thank you, pats apologists have said this for 10 years now, thank you for being honest.

We are too good to accept ten years of failure, believe what you want, this isn't BUF or CLE.

He is all smiles they promised him a first row seat for the 2014 AFCCG…

I hope that Talib & The Receiver cripple each other during their first scrimmage.

I wouldn't have paid Talib that much and I don't want to pile on but I kinda laugh when I see people mention salary cap hell.

Does that ever actually happen? Are there any examples of successful teams that had to dismantle because they went all in?

All I seem to see are rumors of teams in salary cap hell but then they are still out there spending like drunken sailors. The day of reckoning never seems to come?
