Today did not disappoint as far as people and perspective in the same sentence

Someone named "SB 39" in the Talib thread:

"Broncos know they have a tight window with Manning, so they are mortgaging the future to win it all right now.
I wish Belichick wasn't too pig headed to take the same strategy."

Here's another hilarious freak out by someone named "Newenglandsports11":

"Rapid Reax: I really love (hate as a rival fan) the day John Elway just put together. Ward, Talib and probably Ware. ************. And Bill doesn't even look at anyone. So sick of this crap, I get the money was a lot but he was worth it! The AFCCG was lost because of his injury, and he was the reason that secondary thrived at times. Talib singlehandedly won us the Atlanta game and put Jimmy Graham in a witness protection program.

We can't just keep plugging guys in. I am sure Edelman walks now, and THERE IS NO CHANCE IN HELL WE GET REVIS FOR THE RECORD. Tommy's prime is gone and BB is doing nothing while Peyton is in the same boat, yet Elway is doing everything possible to get him more help."

:D :D :D

Did you really expect anything else when you started this thread?

Thank God Adam Seward is still available. :p

Nope. Everybody fails.

Before you press that meltdown button...

Just remember that it's only March. Lots of names are going to appear in the sports news and they won't very likely have anything to do with the Patriots. We've all been through this time and time again.

Trust the formula. It hasn't won us a Super Bowl recently but it's had us damn close every year. Crazy catches and seemingly unrecoverable fumbles have prevented us from hoisting another Lombardi far more than signing "that one extra guy!" ever have.

Re: Before you press that meltdown button...

Actually the reason we came within one crazy catch in 2007 is because we had a huge offseason signing and trading for big names. With the exception of 2011, we've never been "damn close" and have been dominated by superior teams (see Denver, Baltimore, etc.) in the playoffs.

Looks like Lombardi is having a bad first day on the job. Hopefully it gets better tomorrow.

You mean trading for Randy Moss and trading for Wes Welker (who wasn't a big name yet).

Revisionist history at its finest.

Re: Before you press that meltdown button...

"The formula" = Tom Brady + Bill Belichick + top shelf additions to already strong teams

"The formula" ≠ Johnny McSlappy + Johannes Brokedick

How the SBs were won:

2001 Brady added to a whole bunch of recent FAs

2003+2004 Washington/Traylor/Colvin/Harrison added

How 18-1 (2007) was accomplished:

Moss/Welker/AdT added

Phil Costa isn't Randy Moss or Wes Welker.

Uh, no. Not just this two. We also signed what many thought was the best defensive FA the first day of free agency and signed Stallworth, who was ranked the 9th best FA that year by ESPN.

Re: Before you press that meltdown button...

DRC,verrett/fuller, justin tuck, Aaron Donald , ASF, Christian jones & Weston richburg would fix everything

Moss and Welker were acquired in trades. Adalius Thomas was our big free agent signing. How did Adalius Thomas work out for us? Not very well.

You're referring to Adalius Thomas. How did that work out for us?

Donte Stallworth ended up being our #3 WR.

Re: Before you press that meltdown button...

He ended up being a #3 receiver on what was the greatest offense ever assembled up to that point. A 2007 Stallworth would be the best WR on last year's team and this year's team by far.

And Adalius Thomas?

How they were acquired is irrelevant to the point I was making. The Patriots were winning SBs and going 18-1 when they were adding big talent, not when they were watching it walk away year after year. In fact, one of the things people here used to brag about is that, by the time players left NE, they were done and did nothing in the league. That was a big part of the formula. The formula wasn't letting the talent walk away: it was keeping it and adding to it.

And your claim that pointing to Welker and Moss is revisionist history is absolute insanity on your part. Also, AdT was a very important part of that 2007 defense.

Adalius Thomas was one of the best players on the defense in 2007.

Which would have been great had he signed a one year deal.

You place the blame on Thomas then for the 2008 and 2009 teams? They were screwed with or without him.
