We are getting close to the FA period. Teams might be releasing players for cap or other reasons.

The annual individual thread for almost anyone who becomes a FA, either Restricted or non-Restricted, has arrived. Rumors both founded or unfounded about certain players are also being posted.

So lets have one (1) thread for those players that some may think the Patriots should sign, with or without any thought to the salary cap.

Please post your "sign the beast' thoughts on this thread.

Thank you.

Up the middle and in the trenches. This should help the Pats get back to the old ways when they imposed their will on teams and pushed them around.

I also realize this is highly unlikely and alot of money. But, using Miquels "how to get the Pats to 30 mil under cap" theories and the talk about how much the future seasons caps are expected to rise sharply, this shouldnt be out of the question.

Lamar Houston (he's going to get franchised, though)
D'qwell Jackson - probably WILL happen
Evan Dietrich-Smith incredible value.

Enough with the Alex Mack talk. No way this team is going to spend elite OL money on a Center.

While we're at it, let's trade Ryan Mallett for #33, or, even better, ship him off to Tampa for Darelle Revis, who will take a $10 million pay cut to play with Belichick.

Arthur Jones and/or Michael Johnson.

Sig the beast(s)!

this is the only place that Ryan Mallette will produce #33 or any 2nd round pick.

You're probably right. But the Pats spent elite money on a guard, so I dont think you can say there is no way they would do it.

minus the attitude and huge payday

Julius Peppers

Red Bryant

If we double dip in the free agent receivers pool it will be Edelman and Sanders.
A free agency of Edelman Sanders Bryant, Johnson, Fletcher, Mike Mitchell, Blount, Chandler.
Then use the draft to bring in offensve lime help that would be great however I would Take Mack over everybody listed but dont think it would ever happen.

Lamarr Houston or Alex Mack would be worth the $$$. Linval Joseph, if not priced outrageously.

A year ago I was hoping the Patriots might go after Henry Melton, though I knew at the time that was highly unlikely to happen as he would be too expensive. Melton never hit free agency as the Bears franchised him, and he once again is a free agent.

This time around his price tag will be more reasonable due to his coming off an injury (a torn ACL in September that landed him on IR), and then in December he was arrested for assault and public intoxication. The Bears need to watch their cap space after the Jay Cutler contract, and are reportedly not going to re-sign Melton. He was a Pro Bowler in 2012 and had 13 sacks in 2011-2012; prior to the ACL injury he was durable, missing only three games in three seasons - and he's young (27).

Signing a player like Melton prior to the draft would address what to me is the position of biggest need, DT, giving them flexibility with that first pick. While Linval Joseph may be the better player, he is also going to be more expensive; Melton may make a lot more sense given the limitations that the salary cap imposes.

Red bryant
Everson Griffen
Scott chandler

I don't think they'll get mack and talib is 50/50.

Louis Riddick of ESPN said Everson Griffen is worth 7M. I would have really liked him here, but we don't have the cap to do something like this especially if want Talib or another #1 CB

JMT, I cannot agree more. Our main adversary in 2014 will be Denver with manning. We all saw how you destroy the Denver offense.Move Manning OFF his spot. He's dead meat. We had NO DT push whatsoever and never threatened him in the pocket, never made him move even ONCE in the 2013 playoff game. I believe TWO defensive tackles with push and a scheme reliant on A gap blitzes will get us past Denver this season...IF the Pats somehow give Brady more time than the 2 seconds he was getting in the Denver game.Blue chip DT and center...the rest is easy to flesh out.

That's part of why I want to either trade up for Aaron Donald (who I think will be the equivalent of an interior version of Dwight Freeney) or draft Dominique Easley. Melton would be a reasonable alternative, if (1) healthy, (2) affordable and (3) available. I'm not sure that combination is possible, but if it is, it's certainly something to consider.

The powerhouse 2003/4 SB champ Patriots were strong in the core, right through the middle. DL, LB and SS. Add OC to that list so that Brady has time to find whomever and that's where the 2014 Pats need to improve to beat playoff elite teams.

If his knees aren't totally shot, I'd love to get Nicks here.
